Fortnite Suffering Multiple Problems As Season 10 Goes Live; Here’s The Latest

Fortnite: Season 10 is now live, introducing “Brute” mechs, new skins and emotes, and a fresh batch of challenges. However the launch of the new season has not been without its issues, and developer Epic Games has been forced to disable a number of features as it investigates the problems further.

First, the company tweeted that “the mech has been disabled in the Creative and Playground playlists, due to an issue with movement speed.” It then said that “due to an issue, gifting the Battle Pass on PC has been disabled.” Finally, it stated the following: “We’re aware of some players experiencing an increased level of hitching/stuttering while in-game. We are investigating this and will provide status updates once we have more information.”

None of the problems seen so far have been serious enough to bring the game’s servers down–Epic’s service status page still lists all Fortnite’s systems as “operational”–but it’s still disappointing to see some of these problems crop up on such a big day for the battle royale game.

Fortnite Season 10 Changes How Challenges Work, And Free Players Are Out Of Luck

The start of a new season in Fortnite inevitably brings with it a number of new features and tweaks to the way the popular battle royale title plays. However, the newly launched Season 10, has one of the most significant changes the game has received in quite some time. Developer Epic Games has done away with Weekly Challenges and, in turn, made playing the game without spending money on a premium Battle Pass far less rewarding.

Previously, players could load up Fortnite and see a set of Daily Challenges alongside a set of Weekly Challenges. The Weekly Challenges would have a set of challenges that could be completed by anyone playing the game and another set that was only available to those that purchased a Battle Pass. Now, however, the Daily Challenges seem to have been removed entirely, while the Weekly Challenges have been morphed into themed sets.

Currently, there’s the Rumble Royale and Road Trip set available and, in both cases, the challenges that are included in them are locked entirely behind a Battle Pass. This is a huge change as it effectively locks out Fortnite players that don’t spend money on a Battle Pass from a huge part of the game that they’ve become accustomed to engaging with.

While a free silver tier of the Battle Pass still exists and there are unlockable rewards attached to them, the rewards aren’t nearly as exciting as those available to Battle Pass owners. And unlocking them is done primarily through simply playing the Battle Royale mode to score kills and earn Victory Royales. Those that purchased the Breakpoint bundle, which includes Daily Challenges that must be completed to earn its rewards, are now finding that the challenges are not available, halting their progress entirely.

Fortnite is a game that is continuously evolving, so it may be that the way challenges work changes in the coming weeks and, similarly, more to do is introduced for those without the premium Battle Pass. GameSpot has contacted Epic for further insight on why these changes were made and if players can expect more free-focused content in the future.

Fortnite Season 10 Battle Pass: New Skins, Price, How It Works, And More

It’s the launch of a brand new season in Fortnite, which means there’s a fresh Battle Pass packed with rewards ready to be cracked open. Season 10–or Season X, as developer Epic Games is calling it–is an interesting one because it’s delving into the history of Fortnite using time travel shenanigans. What this means for you as a player is skins and items from Fortnite days gone could be floating around somewhere out there, just waiting for you to grab them. In this guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about the Battle Pass and how you can get your hands on all the goodies it holds.

What Is The Fortnite Battle Pass?

If you’re new to the game, you may be wondering what a Battle Pass is. Well, it’s probably the most important thing in Fortnite, and something you’ll want to spend cash to get if you plan to play the game long-term. The Battle Pass effectively is the container that holds all the cool customization items players use to make their characters look cool. We’re talking skins, emotes, wraps, gliders, and back bling, among other things. To actually get all this, however, you’ll need to play lots of Fortnite and spend time taking out enemies and securing Victory Royales. When you do this, you’ll earn Battle Stars, which level up the Battle Pass and, as you gain Battle Pass levels you’ll unlock the items attached to the various milestones.

How Do Battle Pass Challenges Work?

There was a way to expedite the process: Weekly Challenges. As the name suggests, these were a set of missions that refreshed every week. Completing them was by far the best way to get your hands on a lot of Battle Stars in one go. However, in a change from how things have been before, Fortnite no longer seems to have any free Weekly Challenges–they all require you to pay for the Battle Pass. This is bad news for people who don’t want to get their wallets out, since the more challenges you have access to, the more Battle Stars you’ll earn, which will in turn level up your Battle Pass quicker and get you the unlocks sooner. In further bad news, Daily Challenges are gone altogether–regardless of whether you pay for the premium tier.

Now, instead of Daily and Weekly challenges, Epic has created Missions, which are a grouping of themed challenges that, from what we can tell, will feel largely familiar in terms of gameplay, if not formatting. How Much Does A Battle Pass Cost?

A Battle Pass will set you back 950 V-Bucks from Fortnite’s in-game store. V-Bucks are a currency that’s specific to Fortnite, but to get it you’ll have to spend real money. It’ll cost you around $10 / £8 to get 1,000 V-Bucks, which will get you the Battle Pass and leave you with some digital pocket change to spend elsewhere on the Fortnite store. Alternatively, you could purchase the Battle Bundle, which is on sale at a 40% discount. It costs 2,800 V-Bucks and will automatically unlock 25 tiers of the Battle Pass, giving you a bit of a jumpstart.

If you’re feeling kind, you have the ability gift a Battle Pass to someone. This feature will be available until August 15, and your first purchase also includes a unique Gift Box that you can use when gifting items from the in-game shop.

What Are The Battle Pass Rewards?

If you spend the V-Bucks to pick up a Battle Pass, you’ll instantly unlock a couple of skins. One of these is the Kitsune outfit, while the other is the X-Lord. Beyond that rewards include additional skins, wraps–which change the visual style of whatever items they’re applied to–pets, emotes, back bling, sprays, new loading screen artwork, music, and more. What everyone aspires to acquire, however, is the progressive outfit at tier 100. These are skins that animate in a cool way and, in Season 10, it’s the Ultima Knight Outfit. What’s New In Season 10?

Making your way through the entire Battle Pass usually takes between 75 and 150 hours of play, according to Epic Games. In that time you’ll unlock over 100 rewards which are worth 25,000 V-Bucks. As you can imagine, making the most of a Battle Pass takes a lot of time and effort, but Epic likes to keep things fresh and ensure players don’t get too comfortable with what’s going on. Take Season 10’s theme, for example, it’s a kind of best-of-Fortnite conceit that will allow players to indulge in their nostalgia.

“Time is twisted and the Zero Point has become volatile in Season X,” Epic explains. “Whether you’re nostalgic for the past or excited for the future, there will be plenty for you to discover all Season long. Locations once thought to be lost have begun to appear on the island, but they aren’t the same as they once were. Board the Battle Bus and drop in, but keep an eye to the skies to spot the new Season X mech vehicle, the B.R.U.T.E. Crashing on the island as the Battle Bus takes off, these merciless mechs seat two players and works best with a partner, so grab a squadmate, hop in, load up, and roll out.”

Fortnite Season 10 Patch Notes: BRUTE, Rift Points, And More Detailed

Fortnite Season 10–or Season X, as developer Epic Games is calling it–has officially begun. Ushering in its launch, Epic has also issued update 10.00 for the wildly popular battle royale title, and published patch notes alongside it to detail everything that’s new.

As always for the start of a new season, there are a number of big new features for players to enjoy. One of the major new additions is the B.R.U.T.E. suit, a two-person vehicle that lets one player operate the turret and the other move the machine around.

There’s also Rift Zones, which have been created by the Zero Point Explosion. “Locations once thought to be lost are beginning to appear, but they aren’t the same as they once were. Drop in and explore to discover what mysterious gameplay changes they have in store.”

These Rift Points and the Zero Point Explosion are a key part of Season 10’s theme. “Time is twisted and the Zero Point has become volatile,” Epic explains. “Whether you’re nostalgic for the past or excited for the future, there will be plenty for you to discover all Season long.   • B.R.U.T.E.
    • This vehicle can be operated by up to two players. If two players are operating it, one (the driver) controls movement, while the other (the gunner) rains down missiles and shotgun shots.
    • The driver is able to:
      • Dash into combat.
      • Super Jump to victory.
      • Stomp enemies and structures into the ground.
        • Anything you would normally harvest will grant materials when destroyed.
    • The passenger has two weapons at their disposal: a shotgun and a missile launcher.

UI

Replay

    • We’ve re-tuned Auto-fire for every weapon with this update and would love specific and detailed weapon feedback so that we can continue to improve it.
    • If you want to try it out and don’t use Auto-fire already, go into your HUD settings and enable Auto-fire.
  • Added a new setting: Tap to Search/Interact for Controllers.
  • Added a message for devices on Android that have the Sensor Pressure settings (S8, S8+, S9, S9+, and Note 9) to inform players about the settings being active.

Assassin’s Creed Creator Has A Lot Of New Game Ideas, And They Aren’t All What You’d Expect

Patrice Desilets, the creator of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, has a mind full of game ideas. He told GI.biz that in addition to making the long-awaited 1666 Amsterdam, he has ideas for numerous other games, including some that are very personal to him.

Desilets heads up the independent studio Panache Digital Games, which is working with Take-Two’s indie label on Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, which launches this year. That game sees you playing as human ancestor animal and trying to survive in a harsh world. 1666 Amsterdam, which Desilets had returned to him amid a lawsuit with Ubisoft, is also set in a historical time period. But Desilets does eventually plan to make games that take place in different time periods.

“Panache has another IP called 1666 Amsterdam, which we will eventually make,” he said. “But I have my own personal portfolio of ideas and they’re not all set in the past. Eventually, for sure, we will need to do a game set in the future, or a fantasy land, or set in reality… I have a game idea that’s really precise about a story that happened to my father. My father is a survivor of the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, and I want to tell that story eventually.”

Ancestors is Desilet’s first new game since 2010’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. According to GI.biz, Desilets also said he doesn’t plan to make AAA games again; Panache is staffed by 35 people, according to the report. Additionally, the site reported that Desilets said the team could eventually work on multiple games at the same time; one example reportedly provided was supporting a live service game alongside developing a different title.

Also in the interview, Desilets talked about how Ancestors is being positioned as “the next game from the creator of Assassin’s Creed.”

“We have an understanding between each other that if the game is good, it is them,” he said. “If the game is sh**, then it’s my fault. So I make the decisions. Panache is not a democracy, but I am open to discussion and saying let’s create the game together.”

In 2017, Desilets shared some high-level details on 1666. “That’s my game about the devil in us that we are all good guys but sometimes we’re not and how come sometimes we’re not?” he said. “And it’s an international subject matter also and in our culture the devil symbol is there so I want to attack that and eventually we’re going to make it here at Panache.”

Ubisoft Acquires Developer Of “Hyper-Casual” Games

Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry publisher Ubisoft has added another studio to its stable.

The company bought a 70 percent stake in the “hyper-casual” free-to-play game developer Green Panda Games. The studio and Ubisoft are both headquartered in Paris, France. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, though Ubisoft did say the agreement gives Ubisoft the option to buy 100 percent of Green Panda’s shares in the next four years.

Green Panda–which is staffed by 30 people–is the developer and publisher of mobile games like Sushi Bar, Terrarium, Emoji Craft, and Golf Inc Tycoon, among many others. In all, the company has released 55 games since its founding in 2013. Altogether, the studio’s games have reached 85 million people around the globe, according to a press release from Ubisoft.

As for why Ubisoft is buying a controlling stake in Green Panda, the company said Green Panda gives Ubisoft a “sharp editorial vision in the idle games segment, data-based iterative creative processes, and undisputed expertise in both user acquisition and ad monetization strategies.”

Ubisoft Mobile boss Jean-Michel Detoc said, “This acquisition strengthens our position in the hyper-casual market, particularly within the idle games segment.”

Green Panda founder Guillaume Sztejnberg, meanwhile, said in his own statement that the studio is “delighted to be coming on board with Ubisoft…”

This is just the latest move from Ubisoft to invest further into mobile games. In 2016, the company acquired developer Ketchapp. Ubisoft already has a mobile game business, one of its biggest and best-known franchises being Hungry Shark.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare “Dark Edition” Includes These Night Vision Goggles

Activision’s new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare re-imagining is set for a big multiplayer reveal on August 1, but ahead of that, details about the game’s “Dark Edition” have come to light.

Leon Hurley posted images of the googles, which look pretty extreme. As fans may recall, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also had a premium version that came with night vision goggles.

Pricing for the Dark Edition hasn’t been confirmed yet, but a since-removed GameStop listing suggests the premium bundle will cost $200 USD. Developer Infinity Ward also tweeted about the night vision goggles, and you can see their image below. The caption strongly suggests that the Dark Edition will be formally announced during the multiplayer reveal event on August 1.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer reveal on August 1 is expected to bring news about, of course, the multiplayer mode. The franchise is known for its strong multiplayer elements, so people are understandably excited to find out more about what Modern Warfare has to deliver.

We’ve already learned about the close-quarters 2v2 mode Gunfight (see the video above), but Activision has more to share about the full suite of offerings for Modern Warfare’s multiplayer package.

Recently, Activision confirmed that killstreaks will return in Modern Warfare, and one of them involves chemical warfare.

The new Modern Warfare, which is inspired by the 2007 game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, launches on October 25 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Microtransactions Are Coming To Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled

The new update for Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled that launches on August 2 not only introduces the Back N. Time Grand Prix event. The update serves as the introduction of mictotransactions.

In a blog post, Activision announced that players will be able to purchase “Wumpa Coins” in various bundles. The microtransaction bundles will be available from within console stores, though specifics about the bundles including pricing has not been announced.

Whatever the case, Activision said the new option “won’t change the game’s core mechanics.” You can still earn the Wumpa Coins simply by playing the game, but for those who want to speed up their progress, they’ll be able to buy the Wumpa Coins right away.

Players can buy the items, which include characters and various cosmetic items, from the in-game Pit Stop store. Some of the new skins coming to Nitro Refueled include Mad Scientist Crash, Sabretooth Pura, and Stone Age N. Tropy.
