Forza And Toyota–The Iconic Manufacturer Is Returning To Xbox’s Racing Giant

Forza Horizon 4 has an enormous car list, but one major manufacturer is underrepresented on it. Toyota, the world’s largest car manufacturer, has limited licensing agreements on most of its models. Toyota has been unclear on why this is the case, beyond previously intimating in a since-deleted tweet that games like Need for Speed promote illegal street racing. While Toyota is prevalent in Gran Turismo Sport, they were scarce in Forza Motorsport 7 and Forza Horizon 4. Toyota has three vehicles in Horizon 4 as of right now, none of them street racers–at present the game contains two models of Land Cruiser Arctic Trucks, the AT37 and AT38, and the #1 T100 Baja Truck.

But now, it seems, something has changed, and as of December 12 Forza will feature a proper Toyota street racing car. The 1998 Toyota Supra RZ is coming as part of the Series 17 update, which is exciting for car enthusiasts. There’s no mention of how much the car will cost in-game, or whether it will be released as paid DLC. Hopefully other models will follow.

This is, according to a recent Forza Horizon 4 developer livestream (viewed and described by Full Throttle Media), part of a new agreement with Toyota that will bring the manufacturer’s cars to the series “for years to come.” This includes the return of Lexus model cars to the series as well, as Toyota is the brand’s parent company.

2019 marks the first year without a new Forza game since 2010, unless you count the spin-off free-to-play title Forza Street. Forza Horizon 4 continues to be supported with updates and seasonal content over a year after its release.
