New Dungeons & Dragons Game, Dark Alliance, Debuts At The Game Awards

A new Dungeons & Dragons game, Dark Alliance, has been unveiled during the 2019 Game Awards. It’s a third-person hack-and-slash action RPG, and it’s coming to PC and unspecified consoles in the second half of 2020. The game is being developed by Tuque Games, a subsidiary of Wizards of the Coast that previously developed top-down shooter Livelock.

Dark Alliance will feature several monsters and characters familiar to Dungeons & Dragons fans, including Drizzt Do’Urden and his companions Catti-Brie, Bruenor, and Wulfgar, characters first created by fantasy writer R.A. Salvatore. Drizzt previously appeared in Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, and this game will function as a spiritual successor to it and its sequel. A first-look trailer was seen during The Game Awards–you can watch it below.

In a statement sent out alongside the announcement, Jeff Hattem, vice president of digital development at Tuque Games, said that his team have been wanting to make this game for a while. “From the moment I founded Tuque, our team has known that we wanted to bring our passion for D&D and creativity to the Dark Alliance series,” he says.

“We’re taking players on an epic journey through the harsh and violent Icewind Dale, where they’re going to need to use their wits, their weapons and their party members to help them survive the iconic monsters we’re going to send their way.”

Dark Alliance will feature dungeon crawling and plenty of looting, as well as an RPG-style progression system. It will feature both couch and online co-op for four players, and more details will be made available on the game’s official site.
