Battlefield 5’s Free 2019 Content Roadmap Outlined: Firestorm And Beyond

EA DICE has revealed the 2019 content roadmap for Battlefield V. The first piece of content drops next week, while the rest is scheduled for the summer and fall. All of the content is free across Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

On March 25, Chapter 3: Trial By Fire begins in Battlefield V. Firestorm, the game’s battle royale mode, launches day one, with additional Combined Arms challenges coming in April and a new multiplayer game mode, called Outpost, coming in June.

Firestorm is the major piece of new content releasing as part of Trial By Fire. The battle royale mode plays similarly to other games in the genre, but Battlefield V changes up the formula by putting an emphasis on vehicles and including destructible environments. The zone wall is also an encroaching wall of flame that burns down everything in its path.

Chapter 4: Defying the Odds is scheduled for June. The new chapter adds a multiplayer map called Marita and a new multiplayer mode that pits two teams of five against each other in a tight space. In Fall 2019, Chapter 5: Awakening the Giant launches and adds even more content to the game. EA hasn’t announced exact details for this fifth chapter, promising to reveal more at a later date.

In our Battlefield V review, Michael Higham gave the game an 8/10, writing, “The Battlefield series has a winning formula that Battlefield V doesn’t deviate far from, at least for now,” he wrote. “Conquest and the map roster don’t mesh well together, however, Grand Operations–and the other modes within it–steal the show and foster some of the greatest moments the franchise has offered. You might be surprised by the impact of the slight changes made for this entry, especially when you’re deep into pushing or defending objectives in Frontlines alongside teammates fulfilling their roles. That’s when Battlefield V is at its best.”

Mortal Kombat 11’s First DLC Character Is Shang Tsung, And He’s Based On The Movie

NetherRealm Studios has revealed the first DLC character coming to Mortal Kombat 11: the master sorcerer, Shang Tsung. During a panel at C2E2, a video featuring the character was shown and, surprisingly, confirmed that he will be based on the version seen in the 1995 movie.

In the Mortal Kombat movie, Shang Tsung was played by actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and his likeness has been used for his newest iteration. As well as being Mortal Kombat 11’s first DLC character, Shang Tsung will also serve as the host, narrator, and guide for players when they enter the Krypt.

During the stream, NetherRealm also revealed Noob Saibot will be playable in Mortal Kombat 11. Unlike Shang Tsung, however, he will be part of the core roster of fighters, and thus available from the outset when you buy the game.

For those eager to get their hands on the game, there will be a Mortal Kombat 11 beta beginning on Wednesday, March 27 at 8 AM PT. It will run through Sunday, March 31 at 11:59 PM PT, and is open to anyone who pre-ordered a copy of the game on PS4 or Xbox One. The beta will have five playable characters: Baraka, Jade, Kabal, Scarlet, and Scorpion. The full character roster is much more expansive, and we expect more fighters to be announced in the lead up to release.

If you pre-order you’ll also get Shao Kahn as a playable character when the game releases for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on April 23.

Mortal Kombat 11 Adds Noob Saibot

Another classic Mortal Kombat character is coming back in Mortal Kombat 11. During a panel at C2E2, NetherRealm confirmed that Noob Saibot will return as a playable fighter in the upcoming game. The reveal came by way of a new gameplay trailer (above), which showcases the shadowy ninja squaring off against his younger brother, the current Sub-Zero, as well as other characters. The trailer also ends with a look at one of Noob’s gruesome new fatalities.

Noob wasn’t the only fighter NetherRealm unveiled during the panel; the developer also announced Mortal Kombat 11’s first DLC character, Shang Tsung. This time, Tsung’s appearance is modeled after Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, the actor who portrayed the character in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie. In MK11, Tsung will also serve as the host, narrator, and guide for players when they enter the Krypt.

NetherRealm has been slowly revealing Mortal Kombat 11’s roster since the game was first announced during the 2018 Game Awards. Earlier this week, the developer also confirmed that the Emperor of Outworld, Kotal Khan, will be a playable character, and before that we got our first look at the returning Jacqui Briggs. You can see all of the Mortal Kombat 11 characters confirmed so far here.

Following a recent limited online stress test, NetherRealm will soon host the first Mortal Kombat 11 beta beginning March 27. The test will be open to all players who’ve pre-ordered a copy of the game and will feature five playable characters: Baraka, Jade, Kabal, Scarlet, and Scorpion. The beta is scheduled to run through Sunday, March 31 at 11:59 PM PT.

Mortal Kombat 11 launches for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on April 23. The game will be available in standard, Premium, and Kollector’s editions, the latter of which includes a 1:1 (non-wearable) Scorpion mask. Pre-ordering any edition will also give you a bonus playable character: Shao Kahn. You can learn more in our Mortal Kombat 11 pre-order guide.
