A Bunch Of Steam Games Are Free For Active Duty Military, Veterans Right Now

Active duty military and veterans can grab dozens of Steam games for free right now through OSD’s Games to Grunts program, an initiative centered around providing military members with digital games free of charge. The current crop of games includes SoulCalibur VI and Tekken 7, the most recent entries in the pair of long-running fighting game franchises.

To secure codes for the free games, you’ll need to register for a Games to Grunts account using your military ID. Note that some games are already selling out, so don’t wait too long to claim your freebies.

In GameSpot’s Tekken 7 review, the game earned an 8/10, with reviewer Peter Brown praising its deep fighting mechanics, well-balanced tone, and memorable moments that callback to the series’ rich history. Likewise, our SoulCalibur VI review scored that game an 8/10–critic Tamoor Hussain noted its excellent single-player campaign and intuitive mechanics.

Along with Tekken 7 and SoulCalibur VI, active duty military and veterans have a score of indie games to choose from. Here are a handful of standouts from indie developers and publishers like TinyBuild and Meridian4:

It’s worth keeping an eye on Games to Grunts if you’re a veteran or currently serving in the military. Earlier this year, Games to Grunts offered a free two-year subscription to Xbox Game Pass and a free 12-month subscription to Xbox Live Gold.

Ahead Of Fortnite Season 11, A Major Event Will Take Place This Weekend

Season 10 of Fortnite is now slated to end on October 13, after Epic extended it by an additional week, and it appears this season will go out with a bang. Ahead of Season 11, countdown timers have started to pop up all over the island, suggesting a big world-changing event is taking place in the battle royale game this weekend.

The timers can be seen on TV screens across the island, as well as above the rocket at Dusty Depot. As of this writing, there are six days remaining in the countdown, which would mean it’s set to expire on October 13, the day Season 10 now ends.

Epic typically ushers in each new season of Fortnite with some kind of world-changing event, so it’s no surprise that one is on the way ahead of Season 11, but it’s unclear what exactly this event will entail. However, many fans are speculating that it will lead to an entirely new map next season, as dataminers have recently discovered a list of new locations within the game’s code.

While there are still many questions lingering around Season 11, we do know the next season will add bots to the game. As part of its matchmaking changes to Fortnite, Epic confirmed it will add AI-controlled opponents to the game to help players hone their skills; the better players become, the fewer bots will appear in their matches. However, the matchmaking changes have raised concerns because players from different platforms are now matched together, potentially giving those on certain platforms an advantage.

With Season 11 on the horizon, now’s your last chance to complete any remaining challenges from this season. Epic will also be rolling out a set of Overtime challenges beginning October 8. If you need help finishing up any tasks from this season, be sure to check out our complete Fortnite Season 10 challenges guide.

Get A Switch Lite, Link’s Awakening Bundled For $219 (Limited Time Only)

A great Switch bundle is on sale at Rakuten right now, but only for short time. From now until this Wednesday, October 9, you can snag the handheld-only Switch Lite (any color) bundled with Link’s Awakening, a gorgeous remake of the 1993 Game Boy classic, for only $219 plus tax. A Switch Lite goes for $200 on its own, and Link’s Awakening is a full-price $60 game, so you’ll save a full $41 here. That’s an excellent deal on two brand-new, first-party Nintendo products.

To get the discount, select your preferred console color and add the bundle to your cart. You’ll be prompted to sign in or create a free Rakuten account. When you get to the payment step during checkout, use promo code NWD41, which will slash $41 off the price.

It’s worth mentioning there’s also another coupon, SAVE15, that’ll slash 15% off any product sitewide (you can’t combine it with the other promo code above). This deal is also a limited-time offer, available now through Tuesday, October 8, but it notably includes Link’s Awakening. The game is discounted to $54 already, and with the additional 15% off, you’ll pay only $45.90. If you’re not interested in picking up the Switch Lite but want the game, here’s a nice alternative.
