Pillars Of Eternity Headed To Nintendo Switch This Summer

Isometric role-playing game Pillars of Eternity is finally making its way to the Nintendo Switch. Developer Obsidian Entertainment announced that the game will launch on Thursday, August 8.

Obsidian posted a news update with the announcement. Pillars of Eternity: Completed Edition, which contains all the DLC and major updates like a raised level cap, will retail for $50 USD / $72 AUD / £40 GBP when it launches. There’s no confirmation whether it will receive a physical release. The sequel, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, is said to arrive on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime this year as well.

Acquired by Microsoft under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella in November 2018, Obsidian is most known for Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords. The studio’s upcoming first-person RPG, The Outer Worlds, is expected to release on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 25.

Big Rage 2 Update Out Now, Adds New Game+, Ultra Nightmare Difficulty, And More

QuakeCon is officially underway, and while the big focus of this year’s event is Doom in honor of the series’ 25th anniversary, Bethesda isn’t neglecting some of its other big releases. This weekend, the publisher will host panels for Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online, and during today’s keynote, it showcased the latest update for Rage 2.

The free update is now live on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and it introduces a load of new content to the game, including three new modes. First is the long-requested New Game+, which will let you play through the story again with all your weapons, abilities, upgrades, and more. You’ll also earn Prestige badges when you play through the game again.

Additionally, developer Avalanche has added an Iron Man mode–die once in this mode and it’s game over. If that isn’t enough of a challenge, there’s also a new Ultra Nightmare setting that promises to ramp up the difficulty considerably.

Rounding out the free update are a variety of new cheats, as well as new skins, a number of quality-of-life improvements, and a voice pack featuring the Wolfenstein’s hero, BJ Blazkowicz. You can read more about all the new content available for Rage 2 on Bethesda’s website.

There’s more content on the way to Rage 2 this year. The game’s first major expansion, dubbed Rise of the Ghosts, launches this September and will introduce new story missions, additional locations to explore, a new enemy faction, and more. Then, in November, Rage 2’s second expansion is slated to arrive with its own assortment of new story missions, locations, and other content.

That isn’t all we got to see at QuakeCon so far. Bethesda gave us a much closer look at Doom Eternal‘s Battlemode, an asymmetrical multiplayer mode that pits one player as a Doom Slayer against several others controlling demons. The publisher also surprise released the series’ classic games, Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3, on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Spider-Man: Far From Home Passes $1 Billion Worldwide

Spider-Man: Far From Home has now made $1 billion worldwide, making it the first Spider-Man movie to reach that level without adjusting for inflation.

THR reports that this is Sony’s second time reaching the billion-dollar mark, the first being the 2012 James Bond film Skyfall. It’s a rare accomplishment, which Sony shares with Disney and Warner Bros. thanks to the success of Aquaman last December.

Far From Home reached a projected $333 million domestically and $672 million overseas, to total $1.005 billion. This also tops the previous Spider-Man movie, Homecoming, which earned $880 million. The only other two movies to earn more than $1 billion this year were both Marvel films. Those were Avengers: Endgame which set a new box office record, and Captain Marvel.

Spider-Man: Far From Home probably enjoyed a boost from Endgame. While Spidey goes on his own adventure, a large part of the plot serves as an epilogue to events from Endgame. The story focuses on Peter Parker vacationing in Europe when he meets the apparent superhero Mysterio, who says he has crossed from another dimension in the multiverse.

“It’s full of heart and good intentions, clever, quick-witted, and confident enough to pull off some really insane reveals,” Meg Downey wrote in GameSpot’s review. “The parts that work, work very, very well. But the parts that don’t tend to feel like stubbed toes or irritating splinters–not life-threatening by any means, but distracting at best and annoying at worst; like someone pulled the curtain back on the MCU’s systemic shortcomings a little too far. Still, if you can ignore that–and it’ll be easier for some than it is for others, depending on your relationship to the MCU at large–you’re in for a pretty good ride.”

No, Street Fighter 6 Won’t Be At EVO 2019

While it might have been a pleasant surprise, Street Fighter fans won’t see another entry in the long-running fighting game franchise at EVO 2019. In fact, fans will likely not see a Street Fighter 6 for a while, as the team has its sight set on Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.

Series producer Yoshinori Ono confirmed the news on Twitter, saying that he “[doesn’t] have SF6.” Ono suggests the team is more concerned with the Arcade Edition of Street Fighter V, which launched on PC and PlayStation 4 in January 2018. SFV: AE includes all the base game’s content, newly implemented features, and a voucher for 12 additional fighters from Seasons 1 and 2 like Ibuki, Urien, and more. You can check out our Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition review here.

Street Fighter V’s base version released on PC and PlayStation 4 in February 2016, seven years after Street Fighter IV‘s initial release. (There had been several different versions of SFIV since then, one release each year in the lead-up to SFV.) Prior to this, the last mainline entry was 1997’s Street Fighter III: New Generation.

Capcom switched up the way DLC characters are offered, handing them out individually for a set cost instead of through a Season Pass. Kage, an evil version of Ryu, is SFV’s most recent combatant.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Is “Very Similar” To Sekiro, Confirms Respawn

Though Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was well into development before the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Respawn has confirmed its upcoming game is “very similar” to From Software’s title. Fallen Order lead combat designer Jasen de Heras takes comfort in that comparison.

“I thought it was pretty badass, and a little comforting to know that you could make this type of game without a stamina bar,” he said in an interview with Edge magazine, according to WCCFTech. “They let you attack, they let you roll, they do all this for free–and then the AI will tell you if you’re doing the correct thing. It just confirmed to us that you don’t have to limit everything the player does; let them have a little more agency, and then let the AI give them a slap on the wrist or a punch in the face. It was a positive thing for us to know there was a game that was similar to ours. Very similar.”

The comparison to From Software’s most recent game makes sense, as Respawn turned to the studio’s older games as inspiration for Fallen Order. “I’ve been a huge From Software fan since King’s Field,” Fallen Order game director Stig Asmussen said. “I mean, King’s Field II is one of my favorite games ever. But it’s not about you liking a game, and trying to make that game yourself. It’s more, ‘What can we learn about what’s fun about it?'”

In our time with the E3 2019 Fallen Order demo, we saw numerous mechanics and features inspired by From Software’s games–including checkpoint idols to upgrade your abilities, the loss of all in-game currency upon death, and challenging but fair combat. However, when it came to traversal mechanics, Fallen Order took most of its inspiration from Metroid Prime, with Force powers and droid upgrades acting as the lock-and-key mechanisms for exploration. “Metroid absolutely served as an inspiration for us,” Fallen Order lead level designer Jeff Magers told Game Informer. “What the Metroid-style level design does for us is somewhat [of] a way to give the player guided exploration. A ton of freedom within the world, but at the same time we can deliver really handcrafted moments and really focus on the moment-to-moment.”

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is scheduled to release on November 15 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Epic Games Store Cloud Saves Available For Select Games

The Epic Games Store has begun experimenting with cloud saves, a feature found in just about every platform from Steam to the Nintendo Switch. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney delivered the announcement on Twitter, saying “cloud saves are enabled for a couple of new games right now.”

Unfortunately, the word “couple” seems to be literal here. Twitter user ShyXLFT said another individual discovered an “enable cloud save” function in the settings of the action-RPG Moonlighter. Engadget reports the other game is the survival strategy game This War of Mine. Sweeney didn’t confirm which “couple of new games” have cloud saves enabled, but he did note the feature needs “a bit more work” before implementing it across the entire Epic Games Store.

When asked how the feature is implemented, Sweeney said that adding cloud saves is “a manual process for the store team per game.” He implied the feature doesn’t require any extra coding from the developers and games don’t need any form of updates on the developer side for cloud saves to be enabled.

Epic unveiled a roadmap earlier this year, where cloud saves–and various other features–targeted a July release. A few other features expected to arrive in July are improvements to the library, a redesign of the store page, cutting patch sizes, and more.

Coincidently, the two free PC games offered through the Epic Games Store are Moonlighter and This War of Mine. From now through Friday, August 2, both titles can be snagged for the low cost of free. Alan Wake and For Honor will be the next free games up for grabs.

Where Is Xur Today? Destiny 2 Location And Items (July 26-30)

Xur’s back! It’s the weekend in Destiny 2, and everybody’s favorite snake-faced Agent of the Nine has returned to the solar system to sell you a slate of goods that can help you fill out your Exotics collection. The haul this week is a bit lackluster–unless you’re looking for some Year One Exotic weapons and armor, that is–but since the Solstice of Heroes event kicks off next week, this might be a good opportunity to grab some gear that can help you complete all your goals as the Season of Opulence winds to a close.

Where Is Xur?

Head to Earth to find Xur this weekend. He’s hanging out in the Winding Cove area of the EDZ. To get to him, start at the Winding Cove transmat zone and head straight north to the edge of the area. Climb the cliff there to where a Fallen dropship has crashed. Xur chills out right beneath it.

What Is Xur Selling?

Though it’s been nice to get Year Two Exotics from the Forsaken expansion from Xur on occasion, this week, all his gear is a blast from the past. As usual, he’s offering an Exotic weapon and three pieces of Exotic armor, one for each character class. If you need something Xur isn’t carrying, you can always snag an expensive Fated Engram, which will guarantee you an Exotic you don’t already have–but only from the first year of Destiny 2 content or Forsaken. Anything that has come from the Annual Pass expansions over the last year won’t be in the Fated Engram pool, so make sure you know what you need before you buy. You can also grab a Five of Swords card, which lets you adjust Nightfall runs for higher scores, and an Invitation of the Nine from the Season of the Drifter if you haven’t completed them all yet.

  • D.A.R.C.I (Exotic sniper rifle) — 29 Legendary Shards
  • Vesper of Radius (Exotic Warlock chest armor) — 23 Legendary Shards
  • Wormhusk Crown (Exotic Hunter helmet) — 23 Legendary Shards
  • Armamentarium (Exotic Titan chest armor) — 23 Legendary Shards

D.A.R.C.I

No Caption Provided

Though it often gets overlooked, D.A.R.C.I is a powerful sniper rifle whose primary usefulness is in gaining information. The Personal Assistant perk tells you enemy health and other info when you scope in on a target, while the Target Acquired perk gives you better target acquisition and higher precision damage. If you like snipers, you can get a lot done with this one in PvE.

Vesper of Radius

No Caption Provided

If you’re the kind of Warlock who likes throwing down rifts for teammates, Vesper of Radius is for you. It generates an Arc shockwave when you cast rifts that can damage enemies and recharges your rift energy when you’re surrounded, making it highly useful when you’re healing yourself in the heat of battle.

Rolls:

  • Slot 1: Unflinching Scout Rifle Aim; Unflinching Sniper Rifle Aim; Unflinching Power Aim
  • Slot 2: Auto Rifle Reserves; Sidearm Reserves

Wormhusk Crown

No Caption Provided

Hunters also get an Exotic that pairs with their class ability. Wormhusk Crown gives you a little boost when you use your Hunter dodge, providing a small bump to your health and shields that can help you stay alive a little longer.

Rolls:

  • Slot 1: Heavy Lifting; Enhanced Ashes to Assets; Machine Gun Targeting
  • Slot 2: Sword Reserves; Machine Gun Reserves

Armamentarium

No Caption Provided

Xur’s chest armor for Titans is pretty simple: It gives you an extra grenade charge. No frills for Armamentarium, just more pockets so you can dish out additional destruction.

Rolls:

  • Slot 1: Unflinching Rifle Aim; Unflinching Large Arms; Enhanced Unflinching Bow Aim
  • Slot 2: Bow Reserves; Hand Cannon Reserves
