Xbox One July Update Out Now, Here’s What It Does

The next big update for Xbox One is out now, and it includes some changes to Xbox Game Pass and improved Alexa support for voice commands. Starting with the new Xbox Game Pass features, a new “Play Later” tab has been introduced. As its name suggests, this is a hub where you can add games as a reminder to yourself to play later.

The other big part of the July Xbox One update is improved functionality for Alexa voice commands. Specifically, a variety of new voice commands have been added that are specific to Xbox Game Pass. For example, you can now ask Alexa things like, “What’s new on Game Pass this month?” or “What’s popular on Game Pass?” or “What’s leaving Game Pass,” among many other things.

You can also now use Alexa for social networking; you can ask, “Alexa, what are my friends playing?” or, “Alexa, is [friend’s name] online right now?” among many other things. Also, you can now pair your Xbox controller using Alexa by saying, “Alexa, ask Xbox to pair my controller.”

You can see a full rundown of all the new Alexa voice commands here. A complete list of Alexa voice commands for Xbox are available here.

In addition, Alexa now supports more countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, and Spain.

In other news, the next Xbox–Project Scarlett–was announced at E3 2019. The next-generation system, which plays Xbox One games, too–is scheduled for release in Holiday 2020. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet; it might depend on Trump’s tariffs.

Watch Out, Amazon Prime Day: Walmart Is Coming For You

You’ve probably heard by now, but Amazon Prime Day 2019 is next week–July 15 and 16, to be precise, with some early deals already live. Over the past several years, Amazon has grown rapidly to dominate the online shopping industry, but its members-only Prime Day event is now facing quite a bit of competition as other retailers continue to announce their own sales scheduled for the same days. Now, Walmart is stepping into the ring with its own sale on thousands of products, including games, consoles, and accessories.

Walmart’s Summer Savings event will kick off on Sunday, July 14 (with some gaming deals going live early on July 12) and run through Wednesday, July 17. Naturally, the retailer is emphasizing the fact that no membership is needed to claim these deals, and orders over $35 will receive free two-day or next-day shipping (depending on eligibility and your location).

Specific discounts for Walmart’s upcoming sale haven’t been revealed yet, but we know the deals will include new Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch games; retro arcade machines; gaming accessories; and more. Walmart’s first major gaming deal actually went live on July 7: an Xbox One S bundle with a bonus game, controller, and headset for $300 (was $450). Unfortunately, that deal is already sold out, but bookmark that page if you’re interested, as it’ll likely go back in stock eventually.

As soon as Walmart’s Summer Savings event kicks off, we’ll update you on all the best gaming deals available. In the meantime, catch up on the latest Prime Day 2019 info and stay tuned to GameSpot as more deals roll in through this week and next. Twitch Prime, which is included with any Amazon Prime membership, is offering free PC games, free Apex Legends skins, and other free loot for games including Red Dead Redemption 2 Online and Grand Theft Auto 5 Online in celebration of Prime Day. GameStop’s Summer Sale, which also overlaps with Prime Day, is in full swing already and includes major discounts on games like Kingdom Hearts 3, The Division 2, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (all of which are currently $20). Plus, other retailers, like Target and Ebay, are planning major sales of their own.

Fortnite Grills Location Guide: Where To Destroy Grills

We’ve reached Day 14 of Fortnite‘s ongoing 14 Days of Summer event, which means the final daily challenge is now live on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. For the last mission, you’ll need to destroy seven grills with the Low ‘n Slow harvesting tool, which is unlocked by completing a previous challenge that asks you to launch fireworks along the river (we show you where those can be found in our fireworks locations video guide).

Like many of the other 14 Days of Summer challenges, this mission seems straightforward on the face of it, but you may have some difficultly completing it if you don’t know where the grills are located. Fortunately, there are plenty around the map, so you should be able to complete the challenge fairly quickly once you know where to look. If you need some help finding them, we’ve put together this map and guide to show you where the grills are located.

Where Are All The Grill Locations?

As previously mentioned, you need to destroy a total of seven grills in order to complete this challenge. You don’t need to vandalize all of them within a single match, although you’ll likely be able to destroy a few per round, as many are located fairly close together on the map. We’ve found at least 17 different grills scattered around the island, so there are plenty of options to choose from. The most are located within Paradise Palms and the surrounding desert, but you’ll likely run into a ton of other players looking to complete the same challenge there, so we’d recommend heading to the grills in Snobby Shores instead.

Another thing to keep in mind as you attempt this challenge is that you can revisit the same grills in different matches and they’ll still count toward your progression when destroyed, which should make it much easier to complete to complete the mission. We’ve marked the locations of all the grills we found around the island on the map below.

How To Destroy Grills

Before you can attempt this challenge, you’ll need to have unlocked the Low ‘n Slow harvesting tool, which you’ll receive after completing the challenge to launch three fireworks found along the river bank. Once you’ve unlocked the tool, be sure to equip it before jumping into a match. Then, completing the challenge will simply be a matter of locating grills and smacking them until they’re destroyed. You can watch us complete the challenge in the video at the top of this guide.

Grills Challenge Reward

Once you’ve destroyed all seven grills, you’ll unlock the Griller banner for your troubles, which you can then use as a profile icon. More importantly, if you’ve been keeping up with all the 14 Days of Summer challenges to date, then you’ll be able to unlock a special reward: the Smoothie back bling. If you have outstanding challenges to complete, however, you still have time to do so; while there will be no more new daily challenges, the 14 Days of Summer event will run until July 16, giving you a few more days to wrap up any tasks you might not have completed yet. You can see the full list of challenges, along with links to our guides on the trickier ones, below.

Destiny 2’s Moments Of Triumph Are Coming, With A New Ship, Sparrow, And Seal

The next phase of Destiny 2‘s evolution, Shadowkeep, is due out this fall, which will mark the start of the game’s third year of content. Developer Bungie often marks the close of a year of content with Moments of Triumph, a series of in-game feats for you to complete. The next set of Moments of Triumphs kicks off with the weekly reset on July 9, offering a bunch of new stuff you can earn to show off your Destiny 2 prowess.

Bungie detailed the next Moments of Triumph release on its blog, where it revealed a list of Triumphs players will get a chance to complete during the event. “Players will be challenged to complete triumphs that span content throughout the solar system, from the Dreaming City to the EDZ,” Bungie wrote in the post. “This year will be fairly straight forward: Complete in-game triumphs, unlock rewards.”

No Caption Provided

Those rewards range from in-game stuff to the opportunity to buy exclusive stuff in the real world:

  • One Moment of Triumph earns you a special Destiny 2 emblem.
  • Five nets you a special Sparrow.
  • 10 will earn you a new ship.
  • 15 unlocks the ability to purchase a Moments of Triumph t-shirt from the Bungie store.
  • Finishing all the Moments will earn you a seal and title, which are Destiny 2’s most prestigious, toughest-to-earn in-game offerings.

It also sounds like the Moments of Triumph will work together with Destiny 2’s next timed event, the Solstice of Heroes. Slated to start on July 30, the event includes a handful of Triumphs of its own, and will also offer new loot for players to earn. Moments of Triumph runs through August 27, ending just before the September launch of Shadowkeep.

What we don’t know right now are what the Moments of Triumph will entail or how tough they’ll be to unlock. Bungie included a list of Triumphs in the blog post, but not their requirements–but many sound like Triumphs that were part of Annual Pass content releases from throughout the year. That might mean that some players will get a jump on clearing out their list of Triumphs, at least until the Solstice of Heroes starts up.

In addition to the new Moments of Triumph this week, there’s also a new Exotic weapon for players to earn: Lumina, a hand cannon that heals teammates as it kills enemies. Check out our full Lumina guide for more details on how to unlock it.

Kill La Kill The Game: IF PS4 Demo Out Now

Ahead of the game’s release at the end of this month, a demo for Kill la Kill The Game: IF is available now to PlayStation 4 players. The demo’s a little hefty, clocking in just shy of 8GB, but it’s totall free.

The demo will take you through the game’s first story chapter and includes a versus mode with several playable characters including protagonist Ryuko Matoi, antagonist Satsuki Kiryuin, Ira Gamagoori, and Uzu Sanageyama. Additionally, publisher PQube posted a play guide to YouTube showcasing the 3D fighter’s various mechanics. Check out the play guide below to prep yourself for battle.

We got a glimpse of Kill la Kill’s story mode in May, which seems to run in line with Trigger’s 2013 anime with a few differences. The biggest change is a switch in antagonist, going from ultimate series baddie Ragyo Kiryuin to something seemingly far more sinister.

Kill la Kill The Game: IF is set to launch on July 26 for PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4.

Ebay Sale Might Have You Rooting For Amazon To Crash During Prime Day

Ebay is holding a sale to compete with Amazon’s Prime Day, and it isn’t being shy about the comparison. The “Ebay Crash Sale” will take place on July 15–and the deals will get even better if Amazon happens to crash during its big sale date.

Ebay states plainly that the sale is named after Amazon’s tech troubles last year, and that additional deals will activate if the competition crashes. The Ebay advertisement promises deals on Apple, Samsung, Garmin, Dyson, and more. The company also promised additional discounts going up daily as part of its “Hot Deals for Hot Days” sale lasting through July 22. You can find the daily discounts on Ebay’s Deals page.

Some of today’s deals include Sea of Thieves for $22, a Halo 5 Guardians controller for $63, and an Apple iPad Air for $620. Many of Ebay’s sale items include free shipping and returns with no membership needed–another distinction it touts with Amazon Prime Day.

“Ebay is primed to deliver exactly what shoppers want during this year’s crash (sale),” said Ebay Americas COO Jay Hanson in a statement. “July has become a massive shopping season, and our summer sales include blockbuster deals that will not disappoint.”

Of course, you can also partake in Amazon Prime Day deals, which will begin on July 15. And other retailers are stepping up their own efforts to compete with Amazon, including a GameStop Summer Sale and Target Deal Days.

Epic Will Pay For Shenmue 3 Kickstarter Refunds Related To Exclusivity Deal

The hotly-anticipated Shenmue III going Epic exclusive has caused a stir amongst PC Kickstarter backers. Developer Ys Net provided an update on the switch, but the studio is still assuaging concerns. Refunds are now being offered to Kickstarter backers who choose to rescind their investment, and Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed the company will take responsibility to avoid impacting Shenmue III’s development budget.

Sweeney took to Twitter to deliver the statement, saying in a tweet, “Epic is funding the cost of all Kickstarter refunds resulting from Shenmue III’s move to the Epic Games store.” He notes that this decision is to ensure Ys Net’s development budget remains unaffected by refunds.

In a follow-up tweet, Sweeney said that when any other game goes Epic exclusive after offering rewards on separate PC platforms, “We’ll either coordinate with colleagues at the other stores to ensure key availability in advance, or guarantee refunds at announcement time.” It’s worth noting that Sweeney is talking specifically about crowdfunded projects here.

The options available for Shenmue III Kickstarter backers include a PC physical package, a digital Epic Games Store game key, a PS4 disc, or a PSN code voucher. The PC physical version doesn’t actually contain the game on the disc, though; instead it comes with an Epic Games Store installer and a digital Epic Games Store game key. The Steam version will be made available to those who opt for it but will be delivered “one year later.”

Shenmue III isn’t the only game to become an Epic exclusive. During the PC Gaming Show, where Shenmue III’s Epic Store exclusivity was announced, a handful of games got the exclusive treatment. This includes Cyberpunk 2077, Chivalry II, The Sojourn, Untitled Goose Game, and more. Crowdfunded sci-fi game Outer Wilds also went Epic exclusive, alongside Metro Exodus and The Division 2. Gearbox’s upcoming looter-shooter, Borderlands 3, has also announced an Epic exclusivity deal.

Shenmue III is slated to launch on November 19 for PC and PlayStation 4.

Fortnite Week 9 Secret Battle Star Location Guide (Season 9 Utopia Challenge)

Week 9’s challenges are now live in Fortnite, giving you another chance to level your Battle Pass up and unlock more Season 9 rewards. Each task you clear will reward you with Battle Stars, but if you manage to finish all seven from a given week, you’ll also complete one of this season’s Utopia challenges, which will unlock a special loading screen that leads you to a free item hidden somewhere around the game’s map.

Every odd-numbered Utopia challenge you complete will give you a chance to find a hidden Battle Star, which will level your Battle Pass up by one full tier when collected. Sure enough, that’s the reward that awaits if you complete nine weeks’ worth of Season 9 challenges. But first, you’ll need to find it. Fortunately, this week’s Battle Star is fairly easy to locate.

Once you’ve completed enough challenges, you’ll unlock the loading screen pictured below. This one shows off Brite Bomber, wearing her beachwear from the ongoing 14 Days of Summer event, in a skate park. Look closely at the bottom right of the image, however, and you’ll see a drawing of a Battle Star scrawled onto the ramp. That’s the clue that’ll lead you to the item.

No Caption Provided

The Battle Star is depicted above a car that’s surrounded by velvet ropes, and there happens to be just such a car inside Mega Mall, so that’s where you’ll need to go to collect it. Make your way to the area and the car will be easy to spot; walk in through the main entrance, then go into the room to the left of the fountain. Once you find the car, the Battle Star will appear above it when you approach, just as pictured. Collect it and finish the match to level your Battle Pass up. If you need more help finding it, we’ve marked the Battle Star’s location on the map below; you can also watch us collect it in the video at the top of this guide.

Battle Stars aren’t the only bonus you can collect for completing Utopia challenges. Each even-numbered one you clear will lead you to a free Fortbyte. Those can be picked up by anyone who has a Season 9 Battle Pass, whether or not you’ve actually completed their corresponding mission. However, you’ll only be able to find these free Battle Stars if you’ve finished the requisite challenges; they won’t appear in the game otherwise, so you can’t simply go to the right location and expect to find them if you haven’t done the necessary work.

Mega Mall has been a popular spot as of late; to coincide with the launch of Stranger Things Season 3, portals from the Netflix series have appeared inside Mega Mall recently, after Netflix had teased a potential Fortnite crossover.
