Forza Horizon 4 Adds Free Top Gear DLC

Forza Horizon 4 will be getting a crossover with Top Gear, the popular BBC auto series. Microsoft announced that the free update is available now, with loads of new vehicles and some cosmetic options for your driver.

The Top Gear content is narrated by Chris Harris and features seven new story chapters. The actual race content will let you drive a 1999 Lotus Elise, Austin taxi, the Top Gear modified Mercedes-Benz E-AT, a 65 Mini Cooper, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, G65 6×6 AMG, and the Guinness record-setting 500bhp Track-tor.

Finishing the Top Gear missions will unlock the E-AT Mercedes Benz and Track-tor, along with an “I am The Stig” shirt and white overalls for your driver. A trailer shows off some of the Top Gear gear.

Like all of Microsoft’s first-party games, Forza Horizon 4 is included with Game Pass, the company’s all-you-can-eat subscription service for Xbox One and PC. The game has been putting out DLC on a pretty regular basis, including premium Lego Speed Champions-themed content announced and released during E3 2019.

PES 2020 Has No “Plans To Integrate Women,” Konami Says

Women’s football is more popular than ever before, with the ongoing 2019 World Cup enthralling audiences across the globe. While EA added women’s teams in a limited capacity back in FIFA 16, PES has so far eschewed the women’s game entirely. Publisher Konami has now confirmed that stance will continue in PES 2020.

“I personally support the women’s game and have been following the World Cup closely,” the series’ European brand manager, Lennart Bobzien, told GameSpot in a statement. “However we currently don’t have any plans to integrate women into eFootball PES 2020.”

EA’s series holds the licensing rights to feature the FIFA World Cup competitions–for both men and women’s teams–so it’s unsurprising the tournament hasn’t been featured in PES in an official capacity.

However, it’s disappointing to see the women’s game not represented at all in PES given the sport is now more popular than it has ever been. For example, the England v USA World Cup semi-final on Tuesday had the highest peak audience of any TV show this year in the UK, with 11.7 million people tuning in to BBC One concurrently–a 50.8% audience share. Women’s football is arguably of a higher standard and has enjoyed increased media coverage than ever before.

Manchester United, PES 2020’s newly-unveiled partner club, themselves launched a women’s team in 2018. The upcoming season will see them compete in the top division of English women’s football, the Women’s Super League, after being promoted last term.

PES 2020 launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 10. A demo version, which includes online and offline match types as well as the game’s edit mode, will launch on July 30. Stay tuned to GameSpot for a full PES 2020 gameplay preview.

EA Struggles With Perception That “We’re Just A Bunch Of Bad Guys”

One of publisher Electronic Arts’ bosses has spoken up to talk about how, after 25 years with the company, he continues to struggle with how EA is often perceived as “a bunch of bad guys.”

A publicly traded company with thousands of employees around the world, EA is among the world’s largest, oldest, and most established gaming publishers. EA’s EVP of strategic growth, Matt Bilbey, explained to GI.biz that when EA makes mistakes, these issues are blown out due in part to the company’s size and scale.

“25 years at EA and I still struggle with the external perception that we’re just a bunch of bad guys,” Bilbey said. “We love making and playing games. Unfortunately, when we make mistakes on games, the world knows about it because it’s of a size and scale.”

Indeed. When EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront II ignited a controversy in 2017 over its implementation loot boxes and microtransactions–which were removed before the game’s public release–the discussion kicked off a global examination of loot boxes in video games that continues today. The title might have been embroiled in controversy, but it shipped a gargantuan 9 million-plus copies in its first months alone, making it one of the most successful Star Wars games in history.

It’s a similar story to EA’s Battlefield 4, which had a rough launch but was also hugely successful from a commercial perspective.

Also in the interview, Bilbey spoke about how EA, as the company grows larger and larger, faces the perception that it becomes “disconnected” from new, original ideas. That’s where the EA Originals program comes in. The label is behind titles like A Way Out, Fe, and Sea of Solitude, along with more games coming up in the future.

“EA Originals is our opportunity to connect with that talent and those smaller ideas. When you are part of a big company, it’s too easy to fall into the trap where when you see a game concept… it has to be big,” he said. “The notion of actually coming up with small, unique game ideas… We know from the work that we’ve been doing on our subscription business that gamers will play a FIFA or a Fortnite–they have one main franchise–but then they want breaks from those games to play something that’s maybe five or ten hours long.”

At E3 this y ear, EA announced the latest partners for the EA Original label, including Hazelight, Glowmade, and Zoink.
