Destiny 2 Update Out Now As Iron Banner Kicks Off; Full Patch Notes Released

The first Iron Banner event of Destiny 2‘s Year 3 has begun, and it coincides with the release of a new update. Today, Bungie released hotfix update 2.6.0.4, which as the name suggests is primarily concerned with fixing lingering issues that have been impacting the game, including crashes during Black Armory forge runs. Here’s what’s in the patch notes, as well as what to do if you get a “Destiny 2 servers are not available error.”

Update 2.6.0.4 went live following a brief period of maintenance. It should download automatically–it’s less than a 100 MB download on Xbox One–but if it doesn’t, you might receive the aforementioned error when logging in. If so, try manually triggering the update or restart your system to ensure it’s installed; if it’s not, you won’t be able to get online to play.

The patch addresses some serious issues. The Black Armory’s Gofannon forge has been bugged since the release of Shadowkeep, causing the game to crash when the Servitor spawns. Because the four forges are now rotated through in a playlist, rather than being available individually, the forges have effectively been unplayable when Gofannon is in the rotation. That should now be fixed.

Season 8 Iron Banner “Iron Will” armor sets

Other fixes include those related to the use of certain characters in player or clan names and fields causing errors, Nightmare Hunts’ Time Trial Master triumph not progressing, and a Powerful reward not dropping from Nightfall: The Ordeal. You can see the full patch notes below.

These fixes will be welcome news for those who have been impacted, but for everyone else, the most notable Destiny 2 news is the arrival of Iron Banner. This is the first instance of it during Shadowkeep/Season of the Undying, and it brings some previously announced changes (as well as bonus Valor). There are just four bounties total to get from Lord Saladin at the Tower, but each one rewards you with Pinnacle gear–high-end drops that are the only way to advance your Power level from 950 to the current cap of 960.

Those bounties each need to be completed before Iron Banner ends with the weekly reset on Tuesday, October 22, but you can also make a progress on a season-long quest. This consists of a few of the objective types we’ve previously seen as bounties. However, one of the quest steps you’ll encounter calls for you to land 10 Super final blows, but the icon shows a grenade launcher. In fact, the goal is to rack up 10 submachine gun final blows.

You can see the new Iron Banner armor–known as the Iron Will set–above, but know that the process of obtaining it works different than in the past. Here’s how Bungie outlines things:

  • There is a new Seasonal pursuit, which must be completed prior to being able to turn in tokens to purchase packages from Lord Saladin
    • This pursuit is character based and rewards the new S8 armor set
    • Each step of the pursuit awards Iron Banner weapons or armor
    • Most of the objectives within the pursuit track progress at any point during Season of the Undying, even if you have not yet acquired the pursuit
  • Until the Seasonal pursuit has been completed, all rewards will be obtained from completing matches and bounties
    • All rewards are weapons until the Seasonal pursuit is complete
    • The existing seven bounties that offered powerful rewards have been adjusted to offer pinnacle rewards (960 Power max,) but only four are available per event
      • We are tracking a bug in which the four bounties offered as pinnacle rewards rotate each day allowing more than four to be completed during a single event

Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.6.0.4 Patch Notes

  • Fixed an issue where certain characters in player names and clan fields could cause Squirrel and Weasel errors
  • Clan names should no longer be truncated
  • Fixed an issue where Nightmare hunts Time Trial Master triumph would not progress correctly
  • Fixed an issue where Nightfall: The Ordeal would not drop a powerful reward for players who had already completed the Vanguard Strikes Challenge
  • Fixed an issue that provoked the temporary deactivation of rally banners and the “Tire Game” in the Sanctuary vendor space on the Moon
  • Fixed an issue where the Servitor spawning in the Gofannon forge could crash the game
  • Fixed an issue where running the game as an admin could create a “steam_appid.txt” file that would cause a crash
  • Tuned matchmaking in patrol destinations to increase player population

Fortnite “F” Location: Where To Search Hidden F In New World Loading Screen

Chapter 2 of Fortnite has arrived, marking a new beginning for the hit battle royale game. That means instead of continuing with Season 11, Epic has kicked off Chapter 2, Season 1, and there’s already a set of challenges for players to complete. The first batch of missions is called “New World,” and it’s available to everyone, whether or not you’ve purchased a Chapter 2 Battle Pass.

Most of the tasks have you exploring the new map to discover landmarks, among other objectives. As was the case last season, only a handful of the challenges are initially available, with more unlocking as you complete them. One of the later tasks in particular may give you some trouble; it asks you to search the hidden F found in the New World loading screen. If you’re not sure where to look, the guide below will help you find the hidden F and complete the challenge.

Where Is The Hidden “F” Location?

As the challenge states, the F’s location is hidden in the New World loading screen, which you’ll unlock after completing eight of the New World challenges. The loading screen in question is the main piece of keyart for Chapter 2, featuring a group of characters standing on a cliff overlooking Fortnite’s new map. You can see the screen below:

If you look closely, you’ll be able to spot the F near Lazy Lake, one of the new named locations that appeared with the start of Chapter 2. The town is nestled in the southeast portion of the island–that’s where you’ll need to go to find the F. You can see exactly where the letter is located on the map below.

How To Complete The Challenge

Once you know where the F is hidden, you’ll need to head to Lazy Lakes to retrieve it. The letter will appear on a hill just east of the town. Make your way up there, then interact with the letter once it pops up to collect it and you’ll complete the challenge, netting you 14,000 season XP.

There will be a new hidden letter to find every week in Chapter 2, Season 1, so be sure to return to GameSpot as the season progresses for more challenge guides. To catch up on everything else that’s happening in Fortnite, be sure to check out our other coverage below.

Fortnite Map: 10 Landmark Locations For Chapter 2 Challenge

Fortnite: Chapter 2 might have new ways to level up your Battle Pass, but it still offers challenges to complete for XP that helps you level up more quickly and get those new skins. Chapter 2’s launch has brought a set of “New World” challenges that are available to all players, paid Battle Pass or not, and among the three that are revealed immediately is one that asks you to discover landmarks. You’ll need to find 10 landmarks total, but the locations aren’t listed on the in-game map–and with the map itself being new, you may wonder where you need to go.

Fortunately, this challenge isn’t especially difficult because there are more than 10 landmarks on the map. That said, you can’t revisit the same landmark in different matches–you’ll actually need to hunt down 10 different ones, be it in one match or across multiple rounds. Simply approaching a landmark should cause its name to pop up in the corner of the screen, which is all you need to do to register progress for the challenge.

Fortnite Landmark Locations

No Caption Provided

Landmarks are all around the map: They’re essentially named locations, but smaller. You won’t find them on the map, but wandering around on roads and paths away from named locations is generally the best way to find them. If you look at your in-game map, you’ll see it slowly revealed as you explore during Chapter 2 for the first time. As such, you can head to a place that you know you haven’t been and, odds are, you’ll stumble upon a landmark.

Alternatively, you can check out our locations map above, which points out many of the landmarks that we’ve been able to confirm. As already noted, there are more than 10 on the map, and any 10 will do, but this map should help to ensure you find enough to complete the challenge. Doing so will allow you to reveal more of the New World challenges and, after completing eight total from this set, will net you a new loading screen.

Biggest Updates In Fortnite Chapter 2: New Map, Battle Pass, And More

After a few days of confusing silence and nothingness, Fortnite has emerged from the black hole that engulfed the game with plenty of new changes in tow. Fortnite Chapter 2 isn’t a completely different beast from previous seasons–it’s still the battle royale you remember–but there’s still lots of new content to weed through. Below, we’ve outlined the biggest changes.

For those who haven’t been keeping track, Fortnite: Battle Royale recently disappeared into a black hole and went offline. After more than a day of nothingness and the occasional appearance of random numbers, the battle royale returned with a major update across all platforms. Rather than follow tradition and transition into Season 11 however, the battle royale took a more transformative approach and pushed forward into the first season of its second chapter.

Timeline: Start Date, End Date

Fortnite Chapter 2 is officially live across all platforms, so you can jump into the new content right now regardless of where you play Epic’s battle royale. Fortnite: Battle Royale is available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and mobile.

Season 1 of Chapter 2 continues until December 12, which is slightly shorter than the traditional Fortnite season. Remember, seasonal rewards are only available during their respective seasons. If something catches your fancy this season, you have until December 12 to earn it.

For more:

New Map, More Water

The most notable change for Chapter 2 is the brand-new map. Granted, the map isn’t entirely new, as Chapter 2’s map utilizes several of the landmarks from Fortnite’s original battleground–such as Salty Springs, Pleasant Park, and Retail Row. There are adjustments to their overall layout, but many sections are just repurposed from the original map. So this new map isn’t new to the same extent as Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s Alcatraz or Apex Legends‘ World’s Edge.

That said, there are some noticeable changes in the layout of Fortnite’s new map. Specifically, the new map places a larger emphasis on water, adding several interconnected rivers, lakes, and beaches. This creates an added emphasis on positional awareness, as your escape from the approaching zone wall or planned flank of an enemy squad has a higher chance of being impeded by water.

No Caption Provided

If you don’t want to glide over the water or swim across it, Chapter 2 introduces a new vehicle to Fortnite: the boat. Boats can carry a squad and they’re much faster than swimming. However, they’re noisy, alerting all nearby squads to your position with their loud motors.

For more:

You Can Fish Now

Water isn’t just an added navigational obstacle to the new map, though. It presents a brand-new way to acquire resources as well. With a fishing rod, you can now hook yourself some impressive loot–ranging from Epic-tier weapons to magically healing fish. Fishing also helps you level up in Chapter 2, Season 1’s battle pass.

For more:

Brand-New Battle Pass And Challenges

Speaking of the battle pass, there’s a new one for you to level up in. Just like with previous seasons, the battle pass costs 950 V-Bucks (roughly $10 USD) and offers 100 tiers of rewards to earn, including cosmetic skins, wraps, back bling, loading screens, and a whole lot more. If you want a head start, you can purchase the first 25 levels with the battle pass bundle for 2,800 V-Bucks (roughly $30 USD).

As usual, completing weekly challenges will allow you to level up in the battle pass and unlock its rewards. However, Chapter 2, Season 1’s battle pass offers a bunch of new ways to rank up–such as the aforementioned fishing–providing several alternative avenues for acquiring the rewards you want. Other than fishing, you’ll also rank up in the battle pass by looting chests, killing opponents, harvesting materials, and surviving into the late-game of each match. This new battle pass does go beyond level 100 as well, though it’s unclear what you earn for doing so.

For more:

Weapon Upgrades

The materials you find in-game are no longer solely used for creating structures. You can now use them to upgrade your weapons via an upgrade bench. You can find one in Craggy Cliffs, with others scattered throughout the map. We have yet to determine if there’s a randomness to where they spawn though.

To provide an example, say you have a weapon with a Common rarity and plenty of leftover materials. At an upgrade bench, you can exchange that Common weapon alongside 50 wood, 50 stone, and 50 metal to acquire an Uncommon variation of the weapon you submitted.
