Mario Kart Tour Hits A Huge Milestone In One Week

It’s been one week since Mario Kart Tour arrived on iOS and Android devices, and despite its aggressive microtransactions, it’s already proving to be a big hit for Nintendo. The game amassed a record-breaking 10.1 million downloads on launch day, and now that number has climbed to 90 million, mobile analytics tracker Sensor Tower reports.

According to Sensor Tower, that makes Mario Kart Tour Nintendo’s fastest mobile game launch to date. By comparison, the previous game to hold that distinction, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, hit 14 million downloads in its first week, while Super Mario Run garnered 13 million (although unlike the other two titles, players had to spend $10 to unlock everything beyond Super Mario Run’s first three levels).

Sensor Tower shares some other interesting data on how Mario Kart Tour is faring. Thus far, it seems the game is more popular on Android than iOS devices, accounting for nearly 60% of its downloads. However, iOS owners have spent far more money on the game; more than 75% of its gross revenue comes from the App Store. The US leads in terms of downloads and revenue.

According to Sensor Tower, Mario Kart Tour has grossed more than $12 million in its first week on the market. However, Nintendo’s most successful mobile game is still far and away Fire Emblem Heroes. Since it launched back in early 2017, the title has generated more than $618 million. Pocket Camp currently sits at second with $111 million in revenue, while Dragalia Lost is close behind at $106 million.

Mario Kart Tour’s first Tour event is still live, and it offers a chance to unlock two special characters: Pauline and Musician Mario. While there isn’t multiplayer in Mario Kart Tour yet, Nintendo says the feature will be coming in the future. For more on the game, be sure to check out our Mario Kart Tour impressions.

Borderlands 3 Patch Notes: Character Balance, Stability Improvements, And More

Borderlands 3 is continuing to update frequently, both with performance improvements and character balance. Today Gearbox is planning a one-two punch of both, pairing a patch and a hot fix across all platforms by 3 PM PT.

The patch focuses largely on performance and stability, while the hot fix makes some adjustments to FL4K and Moze and rebalances some enemy encounters. Both are coming at roughly the same time, though, so you’ll feel the effects of everything at once. FL4K got mostly buffs with adjustments to their Rakk Attack and Barbaric Yawp abilities, and a slight nerf to their Leave No Trace ability. Moze gets a nerf to her Means of Destruction ability to avoid infinite grenades builds.

“Our goal is to make sure all three Action Skills for each Vault Hunter are viable, but we have noticed some skills have been outperforming others,” Gearbox says in the patch notes. “To encourage more build diversity, we made some adjustments to FL4K and Moze this week.”

Other changes adjust the balance of three key boss fights: Gigamind, Katagawa Ball, and Billy the Anointed. In each case, they’ve been made a little weaker and easier to handle. You can see the full patch notes below.

For more on Borderlands 3, check out our favorite Legendary guns. Or claim some of your own by cashing in Shift Codes.

Borderlands 3 Patch / Hot Fix Notes (Oct 3)

Stability

  • Addressed a reported issue where an infinite loop could occur when hitting the Guardian Rank experience ceiling

General Fixes and Improvements

  • The Hollow Point Guardian Rank skill no longer damages allies
  • Hollow Point Guardian Rank skill has been re-enabled
  • Addressed a reported issue where some players were unable to unlock the Ultimate Vault Hunter achievement on Xbox
  • Addressed a reported issue where mouse functionality may have been lost when hot joining a friend’s session on PC
  • Addressed a reported issue where some players’ inventory would not be saved in their bank

Vault Hunter Adjustments

FL4K

Rakk Attack! is great for constant damage output, especially when paired with Anointed gear. The base skill still seems to be lacking, so Rakk Attack! now has a guaranteed status effect on any enemy that it damages. Leave No Trace was returning much more ammo than intended, and we have added a re-trigger delay to keep its ammo return within expectation. Barbaric Yawp has an increased bonus, as we didn’t feel that the amount of investment had an equal payoff. In addition, we felt that FL4K’s pets were demanding too much attention, which was interfering with players trying to stand still for any length of time, so we disabled the ability for them to move you around.

  • Rakk Attack! status effect chance as been increased to 100%.
  • Leave No Trace now has a re-trigger delay of 2 seconds
  • Barbaric Yawp stat bonus increased by 100%
  • Pets no longer push around player characters
  • “Touch Pet” prompt is now a lower priority and should no longer interfere with looting or vending machines

Moze

Infinite Grenades is not an intentional build for Moze—even if it is hilarious. To lower the power (and spam) of this build, a re-trigger delay has been added to the grenade portion of Means of Destruction.

  • Means of Destruction now has a re-trigger delay of 2 seconds

Miscellaneous Changes

  • Adjusted the balance of Gigamind, Katagawa Ball, and Billy the Anointed

These three boss fights had concerns with their health and shields that made their combat loops more difficult than we intended. Gigamind had a little too much health, so that was reduced slightly. Katagawa Ball will no longer regenerate its shields; we found that while players contended with the adds during the fight, it would unfairly regenerate its shield, negating the players’ progress. Finally, Billy had 25% of his health removed; we agree that this fight often dragged on needlessly. We will be monitoring each of these bosses and may make further adjustments in the future.

  • Bloated Rakks no longer spawn so many Rakklesnakes

This change should make the Cistern of Slaughter in particular much more fun.

  • Adjusted the cooldown values when they are displayed for Zane’s skills
  • Amara’s Glamour will now turn enemies on each other, as described in the Action Skill
  • Modified the loot spawn for Sera of Supremacy
  • Spiderant Emperors occasionally wouldn’t drill back out of the ground, which created a potential progression blocker in the Proving Ground of Survival; we have adjusted this and the issue has been addressed
  • Resolved an issue that could have prevented enemies from spawning while in Devil’s Razor
  • Lavender Crawly’s physics were adjusted to prevent them exiting the world like a popped balloon
  • Further safe guarded Apollo from being launched out of world as well
  • The Rampager will no longer enter an idle at state at inappropriate times
  • Saurian Slingers attacks were addressed
  • Guardians now use all their attacks in Playthrough 2
  • Guardian Wraiths now reliably use all their ranged attacks
  • NPCs in the Slaughter maps were reported to sometimes attempt to automatically revive players in the arena. Going forward they will no longer attempt to revive players
  • Minimized the glow effect when opening Eridian ammo chests, can more easily see the ammo inside when opened

Grand Theft Auto 5 Streaming Only On PS Now, At Least For Now

Sony recently made big moves to make its long-running PlayStation Now service more competitive against services like Xbox Game Pass, and that includes making deals with publishers. Rockstar will reportedly only allow Sony to stream Grand Theft Auto 5, at least for the time being.

Wired reports that while Rockstar hasn’t struck a formal exclusivity arrangement with Sony, SIE CEO Jim Ryan says the game will only stream on PS Now “to the best of my knowledge.” The quasi-exclusivity reportedly stems partly from Take-Two being reluctant to launch its own subscription service like EA and Ubisoft. Paired with a recent big update to GTA Online, Rockstar was up for negotiating.

“I’d prefer not to disclose the terms, but let’s say it’s a good deal for Rockstar,” said Ryan.

Whatever the deal, it appears targeted only at streaming services. That potentially cuts out impending competitors like Google Stadia, which launches next month, and Microsoft’s xCloud, which is beginning public testing this month. But since it’s not officially an exclusive, Rockstar could potentially still take it elsewhere.

Rockstar was officially confirmed as a partner for Google Stadia, but without any announced games. It was one of only three developers, alongside EA and Capcom, that were included in a footnote saying that they would “announce content at their discretion.” Rockstar has not announced any Stadia games or if they’ll be available at launch, but the revelation that PS Now may be the sole streaming platform for GTA 5 appears to narrow down the list of possibilities.

Mosaic Is Like Your Worst Day Turned Up To Eleven

Mosaic is a game where you can’t find anything to eat in the fridge, you can’t afford to pay your bills, and there’s nothing good on TV. It’s also a game where you need to decide whether to flush the talking goldfish that magically appeared in your sink or bring it to work with you. That’s the main takeaway I got from the 40-odd minute demo I played ahead of Mosaic’s yet-to-be-determined release date.

The vibe of Krillbite’s latest adventure is that of your absolute worst day turned up to eleven. The environment is cold and empty, the characters are expressionless, your job is crappy, and your company regularly sends you stats on how badly you’re performing compared to your colleagues. No one will make eye contact with you in the elevator and there’s nothing about you or your life that appears to set you apart from anybody else in your corporate dystopia.

No Caption ProvidedGallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8Gallery image 9Gallery image 10

You begin the game underwater, surfacing from a dream-like world into your sterile, drab apartment. You have three texts on your phone when you wake up–your loving mom asking if you’re coming home for your dad’s birthday, a friend cutting you off because of your lack of effort in the friendship, and a stupid mobile game that serves as a perfect microcosm for the rest of your life; infinitely repeating a dull and seemingly pointless task in order to do more of said task for no real reward. The act of playing the game, entitled Blip Blop, is a relatable parallel for your character, an average commuter unsatisfied with his job which entails crossing off gibberish milestones through repetitive tasks in order to feed some ominous and ambiguous larger scheme.

There’s a palpable sense of loneliness, isolation, and despondency. But it’s this tone that makes you curious enough to act out, since to stick to the status quo would be, quite frankly, depressing. There’s no other incentive to do so, and, as with the real world, it’s easy to turn right when you hit the sidewalk and follow the expressionless parade of workers down the big grey street past the big grey cars to your big grey building to do your stunningly dull grey work tasks. But what if you went left? What if instead of walking toward the elevator when leaving your apartment, you walked toward the window to take a look outside? It’s in these entirely optional moments that Mosaic shines. Literally shines.

No Caption ProvidedGallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8Gallery image 9Gallery image 10

Peering out the window invites a saturated rainbow to weave above your head and clicking on it when it appears makes all sorts of things happen, from being enveloped by an imagined sunset to saving a cat from a tree and having it purr with gratitude in your arms. These moments are easy enough to miss, but finding one makes you yearn for more as it’s the singular escape from your otherwise bleak reality. Perhaps Krillbite is sending a larger message here, or perhaps the heights of luminosity are being used to contrast just how dark the underbelly of Mosaic’s dystopia gets. There are glimpses of this darkness through cryptic static and coded messages that invade your screen, but unraveling the mysteries of what, why, and how will presumably only become clearer when the full game arrives.

Our experience so far insinuated that the path to your everyday grind is paved with nothing out of the ordinary, but the road less traveled. The possibilities of what could be waiting in that direction are something else entirely, and Mosaic expects you to discover them.

PAX Aus Schedule: Watch All The Action At GameSpot Theatre Here!

Australia is home to a lot of things. Cute mammals. Deadly insects. Good coffee. It also has the honor of being the only country outside of the USA to host a PAX. This year, PAX Aus is happening again in Melbourne, Victoria from October 11-13. And, for the fourth year running, GameSpot’s Australian team (with some help from our friends at CNET) are hosting the GameSpot Theatre!

GameSpot Theatre at PAX Aus 2019 will be full of weird and wonderful stuff. This year, we have the fine folks from CD Projekt RED stopping by to show off Cyberpunk 2077, as well as the team from Sledgehammer Games giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The GameSpot staff will appear to argue about very important things like which Bioware love interest is the best (with Dragon Age Lead Writer David Gaider!), and which Fire Emblem: Three Houses character would survive a battle royale, and which Pokemon we would “Pet”, Marry, or Kill.

Below you can find the PAX Aus schedule for GameSpot Theatre. If you’re in Melbourne, come on down! If you’re not in Melbourne, bookmark the heck out of this page and come back to check out our livestream! All the panels will also be published separately when PAX Aus ends.

All times are in Australian Eastern Time. Find US and UK time conversions here.

Developers from Sledgehammer Games will be giving us a behind-the-scenes look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on October 11

Friday, October 11

Members of the Sledgehammer Games Audio Team will take attendees behind the scenes of Call of Duty to discuss and challenge proven, yet potentially outdated, development practices. Attendees will walk away with innovative, but more importantly, replicable development techniques for field recording, room calibration, audio production, and mixing designed to benefit both the big-budget AAA franchises and the small indie teams alike.

Destiny 2 Servers Will Be Offline On October 3; Here’s Exactly When And For How Long

Destiny 2 will be offline on October 3 as developer Bungie performs maintenance on the multiplayer game’s servers. The downtime will commence at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 3 PM GMT, and during this time the game will be unplayable, while some functionality on Destiny’s connected experiences across web, mobile, and third-party apps may be interrupted.

The downtime is expected to run for 30 minutes, wrapping up at 8:30 AM PT / 11:30 AM ET / 3:30 PM GMT. While the servers are expected to be back online at that time, players might experience a server queue. This is nothing out of the ordinary, as many online games implement server queues at various times to help ease the strain of server load.

Destiny 2’s big new expansion, Shadowkeep, and the New Light free-to-play version of the game, released on October 1. The rollout wasn’t entirely smooth, as Bungie was forced to bring down the game’s servers for several hours to perform “emergency maintenance.”

Despite the hiccups, Destiny 2 was able to reach more than 200,000 peak concurrent players on launch day. The game continues to be extremely popular. Steam’s public statistics page shows the game reached 226,000 concurrent players on October 2, making it one of the most popular games on the whole of Steam.
