Of course, Sony’s on PlayStation Store has its own share of digital-only deals to choose from.

Rainbow Six Siege Previews Upcoming Balance Changes

Rainbow Six Siege‘s Operation Shifting Tides update is just around the corner. In addition to introducing two new Operators, the update will make an array of balance changes to numerous weapons and characters, and now Ubisoft has shared some more details on what’s being adjusted.

On the official Rainbow Six Siege website, Ubisoft has previewed some of the balance changes Operation Shifting Tides will bring to the game. As previously mentioned, a handful of weapons will receive adjustments, including the M-12 SMG, whose damage is being increased from 36 to 40. The FO-12 shotgun’s damage, meanwhile, is being decreased beyond 10 meters, while the SASG-12’s spread is being increased.

Numerous Operators will also receive some adjustments. The highlight intensity of Glaz’s scope is being increased to better help him spot enemies. Kaid’s Impact Grenades are being replaced with barbed wire, and the radius of his Electroclaw is being increased from 0.75m to 1.3m. Meanwhile, Warden’s Barbed Wire is being replaced with C4, and Jackal is getting a more significant rework.

On top of those changes, Operation Shifting Tides is adding a limb penetration system. As Ubisoft previously detailed, this means that some weapons will be able to hit more than one target per shot, while others will be able to pierce through one body part of an Operator and hit another, potentially inflicting more damage. You can read much more about the new limb penetration system on the game’s dev blog.

Operation Shifting Tides is live now on the PC version’s test servers and is expected to arrive in December, . As previously mentioned, but no official release date has been announced as of yet. As previously mentioned, the biggest addition in the update will be two more Operators: the attacker Kali, and the defender Wamai.

Xbox Scarlett: “Nobody’s Asking For VR,” Phil Spencer Says

Don’t expect Microsoft’s next-generation console, Project Scarlett, to put much of a focus on virtual reality. Xbox boss Phil Spencer said in a new interview with Stevivor that Microsoft is building the new console based on what fans are asking for–and “nobody’s asking for VR.”

Spencer said in the interview that he has a number of issues with VR as a platform, beginning with the fact that he sees it as an “isolating” technology that separates people instead of bringing them together. Virtual reality technology may one day explode in popularity, but for now, it is a niche market, Spencer said, so the company doesn’t plan to focus on it.

“I have some issues with VR–it’s isolating and I think of games as a communal, kind of together experience,” Spencer explained. “We’re responding to what our customers are asking for and… nobody’s asking for VR. The vast majority of our customers know if they want a VR experience, there’s places to go get those. We see the volumes of those on PC and other places.”

Spencer added that VR as a market isn’t big–“nobody’s selling millions and millions” of VR headsets, the executive said. This may one day change, but for now, Microsoft has no plans to focus on VR for its new console.

Microsoft originally had plans to support VR on an Xbox platform. When Microsoft announced the Xbox One X back in 2016, the company said the console was VR-ready, though nothing ever came of this. In 2017, the Xbox website removed mention of virtual reality support for Xbox One X.

Spencer has said he believes VR will eventually “find its spot” in gaming–but it might not be soon. “I don’t think the creators in the game space have yet found–well, they haven’t obviously perfected the craft of building VR games,” Spencer said. “It’s so early; I think we’re a couple of years before we’ll really see that hit mainstream.”

In a thread on Twitter, NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said he thinks Spencer has made an astute observation about VR. He added that the revenue from VR games spending so far has amounted to a “rounding error of [a] rounding error.”

Spencer and Piscatella are not alone in doubting VR as a commercially viable platform currently. Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red recently said it’s not afraid to launch the game close to the VR-exclusive Half-Life: Alyx because VR is a teeny tiny niche of a market. Valve is only releasing Half-Life: Alyx as a VR game because it wants to boost VR hardware sales, according to CD Projekt Red.

Xbox Scarlett launches in Holiday 2020 with Halo Infinite as a launch title.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s First Raid Launches Soon

Ubisoft has announced that Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint‘s first raid will kick off this Thursday. On Thanksgiving Day, you can experience a brand-new island in the Project Titan raid.

Project Titan is a four-player cooperative-only raid that’s free for all Ghost Recon: Breakpoint owners. The only requirements to access the free piece of content is having a full squad of four and a minimum individual Gear Score of 150. Ubisoft said more information will become available when the raid goes live on Thursday.

The official Ghost Recon Twitter account shared a teaser video announcing Project Titan, alongside confirmation that the third-person looter-shooter is 50 percent off through December 2.

Earlier this month, Ubisoft outlined its November roadmap for Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. November 12 brought two new faction missions and several gameplay changes in the Title Update 1.0.3. Ubisoft has yet to detail the game’s Title Update 1.0.3.1, which is slated to arrive at the end of the month.

Not long after its October 4 launch, Ubisoft admitted that Ghost Recon: Breakpoint had “very disappointing” sales. Following this statement, the company detailed its plans for “a more radical and immersive version” of the game. Project Titan is part of what Ubisoft calls Episode 1 for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, which also includes the two previously mentioned updates, a Terminator crossover event, and more.

Zelda: Link’s Awakening Black Friday 2019 Deals: Switch Game, Amiibo, Limited Edition

Nintendo has had a busy year releasing new entries in several fan-favorite franchises, including Pokemon Sword and Shield, Super Mario Maker 2, and even Luigi’s Mansion 3. Another game that many fans took a liking to was The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, a remake of the classic Game Boy adventure game. With Black Friday 2019 finally upon us, we’ve rounded up all the available deals to help you get Link’s Awakening at its best price this holiday season.

What’s fascinating about Link’s Awakening on Switch is that it’s a full remake of the original, accurately recreating locations, dungeons, and boss battles with a new visual style. This game not only offers a nostalgic revisit for long-time fans, but it’s also a stellar way for recent newcomers to experience one of the series’ finest entries. The Zelda remake earned an impressive 8/10 in GameSpot’s Link’s Awakening review.

“If you haven’t touched a classic Zelda game in a while, Link’s Awakening will almost instantly transport you back to the ’90s,” wrote Peter Brown. “It’s simple, in many ways, but the orchestrated journey still conveys a sense of adventure, and this new version is without question the best way to experience it. And more than anything else, it will put a smile on your face. Remakes are a dime a dozen nowadays and often easy to overlook. Don’t make that mistake with Link’s Awakening.”

Link’s Awakening (Nintendo Switch) – Best deals for Black Friday

Best Black Friday 2019 deals on Link’s Awakening

Switch game deals

As a first-party Switch game that released just a few months ago, Link’s Awakening deals are still few and far between. That said, you can still find the game for little over $10 off its original launch price of $60. The best deal is currently at Ebay, where you can get a brand-new copy with free shipping for $47. You’ll find similar deals at Walmart and Rakuten.

Link’s Awakening Amiibo

Amiibo deals

To coincide with the release of Link’s Awakening on Switch, Nintendo also released a new Amiibo modeled after Link’s appearance in-game–and it’s downright adorable. This iteration of Link can be a bit hard to find online, but you can currently find it for $16 at both GameStop and Best Buy. For comparison, it’s a whopping $35 at Amazon.

Link’s Awakening Limited Edition

Limited Edition deal

While North America saw the release of the Dreamer’s Edition of Link’s Awakening, international consumers were able to purchase a limited-edition bundle for the game. Featuring a steel case modeled after the original Game Boy along with a 120-page art book, this bundle is a bit flashier than the Dreamer’s Edition, and many fans were disappointed it never officially released in North America. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t import it. Currently, Amazon has the Limited Edition for sale for $134. While this is the international edition of the game, it’s region-free and will run on US Switch units.

Black Friday 2019 Origin Deals: Need For Speed Heat For $40, Sims 4 For $5

Black Friday sales are taking off in all segments of the gaming industry, whether you’re in the market for games, hardware, or accessories. Several retailers and online portals are already running deals ahead of the traditional shopping holiday, which falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving, or November 29. If you’re in the market for some Electronic Arts PC games, the Origin online portal is already running its sale, featuring some deep discounts from EA’s catalog–as well as on some non-EA games, too.

Origin’s Black Friday sale runs until December 3 and sees cuts on digital PC game prices as deep as 85%. Though the latest entry into the Star Wars game pantheon, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, isn’t on sale, you can still get a Star Wars fix with Battlefront 2 at $16–a 60% savings.

Among the most notable discounts right now is on Need For Speed Heat. It’s already down to $40 from the usual price of $60, despite only being released on November 8. GameSpot gave Heat a 7 out of 10, with reviewer Richard Wakeling writing, “With only a select few events, no discernible difference between each car’s handling, and a simplistic driving model, Need for Speed Heat does stumble into repetition during its final few hours. It’s not quite a rip-roaring return to form, then, but this latest entry puts the Need for Speed series back on the right track. …Need for Speed Heat may not revolutionize racing games, but it’s the best the series has been in a long, long time.”

A few other titles released this year are also seeing their prices cut down. You can snag Madden 20 for $36 (40% off), FIFA 20 for $30, (a savings of 50%), and Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville for $30 (a 25% cut). There’s also BioWare’s live service game Anthem, which is down to $18 for its Standard Edition and $24 for its Deluxe Edition (previously $60 and $80, respectively). If you’re a subscriber to EA’s Origin Access subscription service, you get an additional 10% off Black Friday deals, as well.

Check out a list of the most notable discounts below. We’ve also got a ton more deals on our Black Friday hub, with more coverage coming as we near Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare’s First Free Content Season Dated And Detailed

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is preparing to launch its first round of post-launch content, and Infinity Ward promises it’s “our most ambitious season of content ever.” It will begin on December 3, and the studio has laid out a roadmap of what we can expect when it goes live.

The studio gave the date and teaser in a pair of tweets. The content roadmap shows lots of new maps, along with modes, guns, and Spec Ops missions. The maps include Crash, Vacant, and Shipment in multiplayer, Cargo, Atrium, and unspecified additional maps in 2v2 Gunfight, and Port in Ground War mode.

Meanwhile, multiplayer will add three more modes: Reinforce, Gunfight OSP, and Infected. Spec Ops will get Bomb Squad, Grounded, Pitch Black, Just Reward, and more, and new guns include the Ram-7 and Holger-26. It will come to PC, Xbox One, and PS4 simultaneously, as there’s no more PS4 timed exclusivity.

A new gun or two may be welcome, seeing as Infinity Ward has had to make multiple attempts at balancing one particular shotgun. This season kickoff will be the official state of Modern Warfare’s battle pass, which it’s utilizing for post-launch content without splintering the player base with map packs. That means all the maps and modes above will be available for everyone. You’ll be able to earn anything with an impact on gameplay, such as weapons or attachments, while you can pay extra for cosmetic items.

If you don’t yet have Modern Warfare but want to get in on it before the season drops, there are some good discounts available with Black Friday sales.

Apex Legends Update Increasing Level Cap, Adding More Rewards

Respawn has announced the next update for Apex Legends will go live on December 3. The new update adds a vast increase to the in-game level cap and also makes some welcome changes to how Apex Legends’ progression system works.

The biggest change included in the update is the increase in the level cap. Since launch, the level cap for Apex Legends has been 100. Come December 3, that number is jumping up to 500. As a part of this change, there are now new level badges in Apex Legends–each one is earned every 10 levels between 110 and 500.

To encourage you to jump back into Apex Legends and continue leveling up, the progression system for the battle royale game will be altered too. The XP required to reach level 100 has been reduced by 5% in an effort to give newcomers a chance to catch up. There are new Apex Pack and Gun Charm awards associated with reaching certain level milestones too. The process of going from level 1 to 500 will net you 199 Apex Packs and 36 new epic and legendary tier Gun Charms. The new Apex Pack progression is outlined below.

New Apex Pack Unlock Progression

  • Level 2-20: One pack every level (19 Apex Packs total)
  • Level 22-300: One pack every two levels (140 Apex Packs total)
  • Level 305-500: One pack every five levels (40 Apex Packs total)

If you’ve already been playing Apex Legends, don’t worry. When the update goes live on December 3, all rewards will be retroactively earned. So, for example, if you’re already level 100, you’ll unlock 14 Apex Packs and a new Gun Charm when you log on. Though certain Gun Charms are exclusively tied to progressing to certain levels, those that aren’t will be added to the in-game store rotation as items that can be bought with currency.

Apex Legends is currently in the midst of Season 3: Meltdown, having concluded the season’s first two events: the Halloween-themed Fight or Fright and partner-focused Duos. The new season has transferred the Apex Games to a brand-new map, World’s Edge, and seen the arrival of a brand-new playable character, Crypto. The game’s most powerful gun has been nerfed (again) and a new firing range has been added that allows you to test all of Apex Legends’ playable characters before buying any of them. Apex Legends is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
