Halo: Reach For PC/Xbox One Will Have 6.2 Million Maps On Launch Day

Following multiple testing periods, Halo: Reach is officially launching on PC and Xbox One on December 3, and it’s going to have a lot of multiplayer maps to choose from. Microsoft confirmed in a blog post that on launch day, Halo: Reach will have a pool of 6.2 million maps available to download and play.

The figure is so massive because it includes “legacy” maps made by the community for the original versions of Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4 that have been brought over.

On Xbox One, Halo: Reach is joining The Master Chief Collection, and players will be able to find all of these maps through the file-finder. For PC, games within The Master Chief Collection are launching one-by-one, so these maps will live inside Halo: Reach alone.

It’s good news that all these maps are coming to Halo: Reach on PC at launch because, as announced earlier, the map-making mode, Forge, won’t launch on PC until 2020. The Theatre mode, which allows players to view recent multiplayer matches or campaign missions, will also be unavailable until 2020.

Forge and Theater will, however, be available on Xbox One at launch on December 13.

Also in the blog post, Microsoft confirmed a number of important particulars about Halo: Reach on PC based on feedback from the earlier testing periods. Here is quick rundown:

  • Overall mouse input quality has been “greatly improved” over the betas.
  • Variable frame rate (VFR) will be available at launch.
  • The audio encoding had to be changed for the PC release, and this means it will sound different compared to the Xbox 360 original. The team is working on addressing this.
  • Microsoft is planning to upgrade the servers in its data centers for launch to improve the matchmaking experience.
  • There is push-to-talk communication by pressing and holding the V key.

Go to the Microsoft blog post to see a full rundown of important things to know about the upcoming release of Halo: Reach on PC and Xbox One.

Halo: Reach costs $10 on Steam, while those who already own Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One can play the multiplayer, custom games, Forge, and Theatre for free. The campaign and Firefight modes will be available to buy for $10 USD. Xbox Game Pass subscribers, meanwhile, get everything for free.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Update Adds New Gunfight Tournament Mode

Infinity Ward is expanding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s intense 2v2 Gunfight mode. With the November 25 update, the developer introduced a new single-elimination tournament variant for Gunfight where 16 teams (32 players in all) compete across eight rounds until one team claims victory.

This is the same Gunfight mode you already know–where players have one life and spawn with a random loadout. Teams that win advance to the next round (and earn XP and other rewards) while the losers go back to the lobby with nothing. The team that wins the entire tournament earns a “high-tier” cosmetic reward in addition to an allotment of XP.

Should your team perform well enough to win a round, you’ll enter a lobby to await the next match. Infinity Ward said in a blog post that players should be patient as wait times can vary as other teams finish their matches.

Infinity Ward’s blog post about Gunfight Tournament has loads more details and important things to know like tips and strategies–go read it here.

The new Gunfight Tournament mode is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but it is available in beta on PS4, Xbox One, and PC for a limited time.

In other news, the most recent Modern Warfare update includes numerous fixes, changes, and improvements–check out the full patch notes here.

Microsoft Store Black Friday Xbox One And PC Deals 2019

Microsoft’s got some serious deals going on its official store for Black Friday 2019. The company has discounts on Xbox One S and Xbox One X bundles, wireless controllers (though the Elite Series 2 isn’t among them, sadly), and lots of games. All of its deals are live right now, so you don’t have to wait until Black Friday weekend begins to save big on Xbox One consoles, bundles, and more.

Tons of games are on sale on Xbox Live, including Grand Theft Auto V, Castlevania Anniversary Collection, and Need for Speed Heat, as well as the full Assassin’s Creed catalog. Make sure you browse Microsoft’s official site, the Windows 10 store on a PC, or your nearest Xbox to take a gander at all the savings.

Black Friday Xbox One deals

Xbox One devices are getting discounts of up to $150 off. All Xbox One X console bundles are going for $350, while all Xbox One S bundles are $100 off, with several of them now costing $200. This also means you can get the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition for $150–that system is bundled with digital codes for Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and bonus Fortnite content. Additionally, Xbox One controllers see lowered prices with up to $20 off, while Design Lab controllers get a $10 discount.

Microsoft is also offering new subscribers their first three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for only $1. Ultimate bundles Game Pass for console and PC, in addition to Xbox Live Gold. New subscribers will also get six months of Spotify, as long as they’re not already subscribed to the music-streaming service. On top fo that, new and existing subscribers get a free month of EA Access and three free months of Discord Nitro–like Spotify, you must also be new subscribers to both services.

Of course, a bunch of Xbox One games are on sale, too, including first-party games like Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4, and Sea of Thieves: Anniversary Edition. Third-party games, such as FIFA 20, NBA 2K20 Legends Edition, and Borderlands 3 Super Deluxe Edition will also see discounts.

Xbox All Access returns

Microsoft also recently announced that the Xbox All Access program is back for another holiday season. Anyone who doesn’t want to pay the full price for a console upfront can instead opt for a monthly payment plan. The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition goes for $20/month, the Xbox One S for $23/month, and the powerful Xbox One X for $31/month. Each option runs for 24 months and comes with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for the full duration of the plan.

The best part of this round of All Access is that you’ll have the option to upgrade to Project Scarlett, the new Xbox console that is scheduled to arrive next holiday. Xbox One X All Access members will be eligible to upgrade after 12 months, but Xbox One S members will have to wait 18 months. All-Digital Edition members will also have to pay a $20 upgrade fee.

All upgrades must go through the retailer you purchased your original 24-month plan from, and you’ll have to re-up to a new 24-month plan (with new terms and pricing). In the US, Amazon is currently the only retailer offering All Access–in the UK, customers can subscribe starting November 5 at Smyths and GAME.

Game deals

You can check out the full sale at Microsoft and see some of the best discounts below. These prices will last until December 2, or while supplies last.

The Outer Worlds: Best Black Friday 2019 Deals (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

The Outer Worlds is Obsidian’s last game as an independent developer, and by all accounts, it’s quite a finale. Released October 25 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the game pays homage to the studio’s past with a huge open-ended adventure full of humor and colorful characters as your space-hopping vigilante explores planets owned by corporations.

If you have an Xbox One or PC, the best Black Friday deal on the game is arguably through Game Pass, where it’s free to play. New subscribers can get a three-month Game Pass Ultimate membership–which includes Xbox Live Gold along with Game Pass for both console and PC–for just $1 as part of Microsoft’s Black Friday sale, and The Outer Worlds is part of the subscription’s collection. That should be more than enough time to play through the entire game. If you’re looking to add it to your library permanently, though, some stores have sale prices for cheaper.

The Outer Worlds (PS4, Xbox One, PC) Black Friday deals

The Outer Worlds’ Best Black Friday 2019 Deals

Surprisingly, the best deals on The Outer Worlds are actually for digital console versions and PC (usually physical copies will get markdowns first). For PS4, your best bet is to grab it in PSN’s Black Friday sale for $45 and download directly from the PlayStation Store. You can find it much cheaper on Xbox One–Amazon has a digital code available for just $35, which beats out the Xbox Store price.

Finally, for PC, you have several good options. The Outer Worlds is $44.39 as part of Fanatical’s Black Friday sale, but by using our exclusive promo code GAMESPOT11 at checkout, you can get it for just $39.51, which is technically the lowest price available. However, the best deal may actually be at Green Man Gaming. If you purchase certain games during the Black Friday sale, like Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Outer Worlds, you’ll receive a code for the Intel Starter Pack, which lets you choose five free games from a selection of titles. You can find more info on that bonus at GMG.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Patch Notes Released, Here’s What’s New

The newest update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has arrived, and while it’s not the most substantial, it does include some notable changes and improvements.

Starting off, spawn cameras for the Headquarters and Hardpoint multiplayer modes are now turned off. Additionally, the patch fixes a problem related to how players could join a progress too late in a match in the free-for-all mode. On top of that, free-for-all mode is now located in the Filter menu, while four-player parties can now play together in Gun Game.

In terms of fixes, the new Modern Warfare update eliminates a bug that could cause laser sights on the P90 and MP5 to become “misaligned.” The update also removes some out-of-bounds and boosting exploits that some players were taking advantage of. For Spec Ops mode, the update includes a “minor adjustment” to difficulty, but that’s all that developer Infinity Ward had to say on the matter.

You can see the full November 25 patch notes down below, as posted by Infinity Ward on Reddit.

In other news, Infinity Ward has introduced a new variant of the 2v2 Gunfight mode. Players can now take part in a tournament to test their skills. In this single-elimination tournament for 16 teams, squads that win will keep moving through eight rounds until one is named victor. For lots more on the new Gunfight tournament mode, which is a beta that is only available for a limited time, head to Activision’s website.

Modern Warfare November 25 Patch Notes:

WHAT’S NEW:

  • Allowing up to 4-player parties in Gun Game
  • Moving FFA to the Filter menu
  • Fixing join in progress for FFA to prevent finding late-progress matches
  • Turning off spawn cameras for Headquarters and Hardpoint

GENERAL FIXES:

  • Removed infils for both teams when loading into Piccadilly, Search and Destroy
  • Fix for a bug where the thermal optic on the PP19 Bizon would appear white while ADS
  • Fix for the E.O.D. perk not allowing players to hack claymores in FFA
  • Fix for various boosting and out of bounds exploits
  • Fix for laser sights becoming misaligned on the P90 and MP5
  • Special Operations: Minor adjustment to difficulty

In GameSpot’s NBA 2K20 impressions, critic Kevin Wong wrote about how the new game’s story mode attempts to have a social conscience, leaving behind the awkward attempts at humour and “hip” dialogue of previous entries. While it doesn’t quite stick the landing, Wong wrote that the basketball gameplay is still as great as it always is.

“Is it even possible to have a truly woke narrative in a game so relentlessly money and fame-driven? Perhaps not.” Wong wrote. “But NBA 2K20 asks you to accept this melding at face value. That’s impossible, but thankfully, there’s a legacy of NBA 2K quality that makes the reconciliation less important. The story and how it’s told don’t hold up to scrutiny. But the gameplay, honed from years of incremental development and effort, always does. NBA 2K20 is, even in its contradictions, an excellent facsimile of the NBA itself.”

Madden NFL 20 Black Friday Deals 2019

Madden NFL 20 is one of the year’s biggest games, and you can bet it’s going to be on sale for Black Friday 2019 this weekend. In fact, most places have already told us their deals on EA’s football game, and you can get it for as low as $27 over at Walmart in the coming days.

Walmart’s Black Friday sale kicks off on November 27 and includes many other games, in addition to Madden. Most of their prices edge out Best Buy, GameStop, and Target, though there are a few that are cheaper at other retailers. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date on the lowest prices right here on GameSpot.

Madden NFL 20 (PS4, XBO) – $27 at Walmart

Madden NFL 20 | $27 ($60)

EA’s latest football game received a score of 8/10 in our Madden NFL 20 review. GameSpot’s Eddie Makuch praised its new X-Factor abilities, week-to-week challenges, and on-the-sticks gameplay, the latter of which he says is “the best it’s ever been.” However, the story elements of the QB1 mode and the minimal changes to Franchise mode left him wanting.

“Madden NFL 20 is an improved version of the annualized professional football series that excels in some areas and leaves something to be desired in others,” he wrote. “The new QB1 career mode–which includes a barebones NCAA football experience–overall feels like a half-baked idea that doesn’t deliver anything meaningful or interesting. When it comes to the on-the-field action, however, the new X-Factor and Superstar abilities shake up the familiar gameplay formula to give seasoned players and newcomers alike a fresh way to scheme plays and orchestrate strategy on both sides of the ball.”

Luigi’s Mansion 3 Black Friday Deals: Snag Luigi’s Latest Spooky Adventure For $48

Nintendo’s released a surprising amount of first-part games this year, including Pokemon Sword and Shield, Astral Chain, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses. You shouldn’t sleep on Luigi’s Mansion 3, either, which brings the beloved series back to consoles for the first time since the original Gamecube game. With it being a recently-released Nintendo game discounts are few and far between, but you can get it for under retail price ahead of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, if you know where to look.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 Black Friday deals haven’t been announced, but you can still save by shopping at Walmart.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 — $49.94 (in-store only)

For most of the year, Walmart has routinely discounted new games, including Luigi’s Mansion 3, to $50 at launch. Unfortunately, the $10-off deal is usually only available in-store. If you click the link above, you’ll notice that Walmart’s website has Luigi’s Mansion 3 for the regular retail price of $60. Even though you have to go to the store to snag this deal, you can buy it now and avoid the Black Friday rush.

As far as online deals go, a large and reputable Ebay seller has brand new, sealed copies of Luigi’s Mansion 3 on sale for $48. You’ll get free shipping, guaranteed by December 2, if you order from Ebay. We should note that UK box art is shown in the listing, but orders ship from California. It seems likely that the box art is just a mistake. Even if it happens to be the UK version, it’ll still work in North American Switch consoles.

Outside of Walmart’s in-store price and the current Ebay deal, it’s not looking like any major retailers will have discounts on Luigi’s Mansion 3 this Black Friday. Walmart, Best Buy, and Target have already released their ads, and GameStop has revealed some early Black Friday deals. Luigi’s Mansion 3 hasn’t shown up in any of them. We don’t know the North American Eshop Black Friday deals just yet, but the UK Black Friday sale doesn’t feature Luigi’s Mansion 3 either.

We’d recommend keeping an eye on Amazon, as the retailer will likely have waves of deals throughout Black Friday weekend. But considering the fact that Amazon routinely copies other retailers when it comes to game sales, we wouldn’t say a Luigi’s Mansion 3 discount is particularly likely at Amazon.

The charming Switch adventure earned an 8/10 in our Luigi’s Mansion 3 review. Reviewer Kevin Knezevic called Luigi’s Mansion 3 “perhaps the best installment in the series yet,” praising it for the numerous new mechanics and more open structure. While the controls can sometimes get in the way of the joyous experience, Last Resort Hotel is filled with clever puzzles, fun ghost encounters, and a treasure trove of hidden collectibles.

Battleborn Is Shutting Down And Will Be Completely Unplayable

Three years after launch and two years after going free-to-play, Gearbox’s Battleborn is officially shutting down. Publisher 2K Games announced that the servers will go offline in January 2021.

2K Games confirmed that it plans to “focus [its] efforts and resources on other projects” following the announcement. The company tweeted that it is “extremely proud of the work that went into the game [and] will continue to provide updates on the sunsetting of the title when appropriate.”

Until 2021, Battleborn will remain playable in some form. 2K Games clarified in a blog post that the game’s premium currency, Platinum, will no longer be purchasable after February 24, 2020. Any currency you have stockpiled can still be spent until the servers get deactivated in 2021. You will no longer be able to play Battleborn in any capacity once the servers go offline, including the game’s single-player campaign.

Battleborn has already been removed from digital storefronts like the PlayStation Store and Steam. However, the game can still be purchased from physical retailers such as Target and Walmart.

We gave the game a 7/10 in our Battleborn review, saying, “The varied cast of heroes adds longevity, but the game still feels relatively content light. With so many moving parts that never quite gel, I found plenty of things to love but just as much to feel confused by and ambivalent about.”
