In GameSpot’s NBA 2K20 impressions, critic Kevin Wong wrote about how the new game’s story mode attempts to have a social conscience, leaving behind the awkward attempts at humour and “hip” dialogue of previous entries. While it doesn’t quite stick the landing, Wong wrote that the basketball gameplay is still as great as it always is.

“Is it even possible to have a truly woke narrative in a game so relentlessly money and fame-driven? Perhaps not.” Wong wrote. “But NBA 2K20 asks you to accept this melding at face value. That’s impossible, but thankfully, there’s a legacy of NBA 2K quality that makes the reconciliation less important. The story and how it’s told don’t hold up to scrutiny. But the gameplay, honed from years of incremental development and effort, always does. NBA 2K20 is, even in its contradictions, an excellent facsimile of the NBA itself.”

Former Arkane Devs’ New Game Will Be Revealed At The Game Awards 2019

A couple of former developers from Arkane Studios, the team responsible for immersive-sims like Dishonored and Prey, has established a brand-new studio to focus on “great art direction, compelling worlds, [and] interesting stories.” The team’s first project will be revealed at this year’s Game Awards ceremony.

WolfEye Studios is being helmed by Raphael Colantonio and Julien Roby, Arkane’s former president/co-creative director and executive producer, respectively. Though neither opened up about their forthcoming project, the two have confirmed that it will be shown during the fifth annual Game Awards, which takes place on December 12.

In a GamesIndustry.Biz interview, Roby said WolfEye is an opportunity for him and Colantonio to get back to the games they love as developers and players. “We like games that respond to player actions, where the world reacts to what you are doing, and the experience is owned by the player,” Roby said. “It was what we wanted to get back to rather than being constantly distracted by the complexity of doing games which are technically more involved, and little by little your focus in development moves away from the actual experience toward technicalities which in the end don’t change the experience much.”

Colantonio intends WolfEye to be a studio that brings its focus on innovation instead of the bigger-equals-better approach to game development. “[I]n a world where making games is all about innovation, R&D, and trying things, that heaviness of graphics and production prevents flexibility, coming back on ideas, trying something else,” Colantonio said. “That’s not to say we don’t like visuals. We’re huge fans of great art direction, compelling worlds, interesting stories, but there’s a distinction to be made between art direction and graphics.”

The less-than-twenty-person studio is currently dispersed across the world and while both Colantonio and Roby want to keep WolfEye small, the team’s size doesn’t dictate the game’s size. “A small [studio] doesn’t mean making small games. We can make big games that focus on the right areas,” Colantonio said.

The Game Awards will go live on December 12 at 5:30 PM PT / 7:30 PM CST / 8:30 PM ET on December 12 (and 1:30 AM BST on December 13). Show host Geoff Keighley announced the full list of nominees and the competition this year looks tough.

Fortnite: 11.20 Update Patch Notes Bring Back Daily Challenges

Fortnite has a brand-new update that brings daily challenges back into the mix. Developer Epic Games provided the full patch notes for update 11.20, which includes bug fixes and tweaks, UI adjustments, changes to items and weapons, and more.

Some items and weapons have also been altered in Fortnite’s 11.20 update. Slurp Tankers will now give more health, while the tactical shotgun’s headshot multiplier has been changed to bring it closer to the pump shotgun’s. Elsewhere, the Bandage Bazooka has been re-enabled in this new patch following Epic Games resolving the gun’s sync issues.

Pokemon Go December Community Day Weekend Brings Back All Previous Featured Pokemon

We’re a little over a month away from 2020, which means only one Pokemon Go Community Day remains before the new year arrives. Niantic has now announced the first details for December’s Community Day, and like last year, the developer is doing something special for the final event of 2019.

While most Community Days only run for three hours, December’s will be a two-day affair. The event takes place on December 14 and 15 and runs from 9 AM – 9 PM local time each day. During both days, all of the featured Pokemon from every previous Community Day this year will spawn more frequently in the wild, while the featured Pokemon from 2018’s events will appear in Raids. On top of that, you’ll have another chance to learn each featured Pokemon’s Community Day move if you can evolve them into their final form before the event ends.

Finally, special bonuses will be available each day during specific windows of time. You can see all of the Pokemon and bonuses that will be available during December’s Community Day weekend below. You can also read more details about the event on the official Pokemon Go website.

Before December’s Community Day arrives, Niantic still has a few Pokemon Go events lined up for November. From now until November 26, the developer is holding a Supereffective Week event, during which Pokemon that are effective against Team Rocket will appear more often in the wild and Raids. After that, the Legendary Pokemon Terrakion is set to make its debut in Pokemon Go starting November 26, and the game’s first-ever Friend Fest kicks off on November 27.

Pokemon Go players also have a chance to catch their first Galarian Pokemon. To celebrate the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield on Nintendo Switch, Galarian Weezing appeared for a special Raid Hour event following November’s Community Day. While that Raid Hour has since ended, you’ll still have a chance to encounter the Galarian Pokemon in four-star Raids.

Pokemon Go December 2019 Community Day Weekend Details

December 14-15: 9 AM – 9 PM local time

  • Pokemon appearing more frequently in the wild: Totodile, Swinub, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Ralts, Slakoth, Trapinch, Bagon, Turtwig, and Chimchar

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – How To Beat The Oggdo Bogdo

The galaxy is full of dangerous creatures in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but the scariest are the Legendary Beasts. These four creatures, each located on a different planet, represent optional minibosses that guard useful upgrades and tidbits of story. The first of the Legendary Beasts you’re likely to encounter is the Oggdo Bogdo on Bogano, a giant, angry frog that will have you for lunch if you’re not careful.

Fortunately, you have some options when it comes to beating the Oggdo Bogdo. First, you can ignore it until you become more powerful through the course of the game, which will make the fight significantly easier. But if you’re bent on taking to Oggdo Bogdo down early, there’s another handy trick to attacking it that can give you a significant advantage in the fight ahead.

Where To Find The Oggdo Bogdo

The Bogano Sinkholes hides the Legendary Oggdo Bogdo, but you’ll need to take a bit of a circuitous pack to get there.

The Oggdo Bogdo hangs out on Bogano, and it’s not far off from where you first land in the Mantis when you arrive on the planet. From the Mantis, bear to the right as you enter the trenches that work through the planet. Look for a pair of pipes that cross over a gap leading toward spinning fans.

These pipes lead to the Oggdo Bogdo’s lair, in a cave to the right.

You’ll see another pipe to your right–that’s the path to the Oggdo Bogdo. Follow it and you’ll find a small, dark cave, blocked by some pipes you can cut through with your lightsaber. When you work your way through the tunnel, you’ll find the Oggdo Bogdo at the end.

How To Get The Drop On The Oggdo Bogdo

You can face the Oggdo Bogdo directly by entering its lair, but you’ll take it on at full strength–which isn’t exactly advisable. The creature has a ton of health and does big damage, and especially early in the game, you’re likely to be overmatched. But you can knock out a huge chunk of the Oggdo Bogdo’s health if you know what you’re doing and spend a little time exploring Bogano.

Climb up above the trenches in the Bogano Sinkholes to find some these big round holes. Drop through one and you can attack the Oggdo Bogdo with an aerial lightsaber strike, dealing a ton of damage.

Once you’ve entered and completed the story beats that take place in the Zeffo temple, you’ll head back to the Mantis by climbing up above the trenches and crossing the flat areas between them. As you go, you’ll probably notice some big holes near where the Mantis is parked. Look down through these, and you’ll see the Oggdo Bogdo. From up here, you can drop down on the creature and ambush it with an aerial attack. Do that and you’ll dish out a big hit that’ll remove between a quarter and a third of the creature’s total health.

Don’t forget to use Force Slow to get yourself out of trouble, and to block and parry the Oggdo Bogdo’s attacks when you can.

You’ll still have quite a fight waiting for you, though. The Oggdo Bogdo likes to leap at you with unblockable attacks, but even its standard biting strike can take you out. Remember that you can block and parry attacks from creatures with your lightsaber, and doing so can open up the Oggdo Bogdo to counter-attacks. Just be wary of its bites, since it likes to snap at you twice in an attack cycle, and swinging away too early can be the death of you.

Also remember that you can use Force Slow on the creature, which can give you a chance to reposition, get in an attack, or heal yourself. The best strategy here is to take your time to learn the Oggdo Bogdo’s attacks, and only attack when you’ve got a big opening. Don’t get greedy; hit the big frog once or twice, then back off.

Black Friday 2019 PS Plus Sale: Save 25% On 12-Month Memberships

PlayStation Plus has become a must-have add-on for anyone with a PS4. For $60 a year, you can play online multiplayer games with others, store all of your PS4 saves in the cloud, and get two free games each month, keeping them for as long as you’re a PS Plus member. You also get bonus deals in Sony’s digital PlayStation store, netting you some major discounts on games all throughout the year. If you’re looking to save big with some of the PS4 console deals floating around, you’d be remiss not to look for a deal on PS Plus as well.

Black Friday weekend and Cyber Monday will be the best times to shop for deals on PlayStation Plus. Last year, the service was discounted to $40 at numerous retailers, including GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart. PlayStation also offered the $40 price on the PlayStation Store, so you could buy it straight from your console.

While not technically a Black Friday promotion, Ebay currently has PlayStation Plus 12-month memberships for $40. It’s unclear if Ebay’s price will go back up before the big holiday shopping weekend.

In terms of announced Black Friday promotions, the best deal we’ve seen comes straight from PlayStation’s Black Friday sale. PlayStation Plus 12-month memberships will be discounted to $45 on the PlayStation Store. While not a bad price by any means, subscriptions were readily available for $40 last Black Friday. The $45 promotion should be good at most major retailers.

GameStop’s Black Friday deals actually begin even earlier, as the deals will go live on GameStop’s website beginning Wednesday, November 27 at 8 PM CT.

New Pokemon Sword & Shield Spirits Being Added To Smash Bros. Ultimate

Pokemon Sword and Shield are finally available on Nintendo Switch, and to celebrate their release, Nintendo is holding a Pokemon-themed Spirit Board event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this week. The event kicks off on Thursday, November 21, and introduces a handful of new Pokemon Spirits to collect in the fighting game.

From November 21-26, four new Pokemon Spirits will appear on the Spirit Board. Not only will defeating these add them to your collection, you’ll also earn more Spirit Points than usual, which you can use to purchase items in the World of Light adventure mode. The following four new Spirits will appear periodically on the board:

  • Zacian & Zamazenta
  • Grookey, Scorbunny, & Sobble
  • Corviknight
  • Morpeko

In other Smash news, Nintendo is offering another Smash Bros. Ultimate freebie for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. You can grab a third Spirit Board Challenge Pack right now from the Eshop. This one includes 5,000 Gold and three Classic Tickets for the game’s Classic Mode. To claim the pack, however, you’ll need to have an active paid NSO subscription; you can’t grab it during a free trial.

Smash Bros. Ultimate’s latest DLC character, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury, arrived earlier this month alongside the game’s 6.0 update. There’s still one more DLC fighter to come as part of Smash Ultimate’s Fighters Pass, but Nintendo hasn’t announced who that will be. That won’t be the end of the game’s DLC, however; at E3, Nintendo confirmed that it is working on even more DLC fighters for Smash, although it didn’t share any other details beyond that.

Pokemon Sword and Shield, meanwhile, mark the start of the Pokemon series’ eighth generation, and they shake up the formula in some notable ways.
