Torchlight Frontiers Release Date Delayed Out Of 2019

The new Torchlight game, Torchlight Frontiers, is not going to launch on time. Developer Max Schaefer of Echtra Games announced during an ExileCon panel today that the free-to-play action role-playing game won’t make it out in 2019 as expected.

He said so with a laugh, given there are fewer than 50 days left in 2019 with no update in sight. The delay out of 2019 is no surprise, as Schaefer told SegmentNext that 2019 was only an “early estimate.” He added, “The bottom line is the game will ship when it’s done.”

Frontiers is currently in alpha testing. It’s in development for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Frontiers features a “shared, persistent, and dynamically generated world” featuring hack-and-slash gameplay in dungeons stacked with creepy creatures and bosses.

Echtra Games is headed up by Max Schaefer, who founded Diablo creator Blizzard North. He was joined by the other two Blizzard North founders–his brother Erich Schaefer and David Brevik–on stage at ExileCon today where they shared stories about the history of Diablo and more.

Disclosure: Grinding Gear Games is paying for GameSpot’s flight and accommodation in Auckland, New Zealand to attend ExileCon.

Path Of Exile Dev Talks Mobile Version

A mobile version of the popular free-to-play RPG Path of Exile was announced at ExileCon this weekend in Auckland. From the start, the developers at Grinding Gear Games described the title as “experimental” in nature, which led to questions about whether or not it would be released.

Grinding Gear founder Chris Wilson told GameSpot that he hopes to release Path of Exile mobile, but not until the company can answer the important questions about what the game even should be. The studio has created a slice of the game aimed at what hardcore fans want to see, but where it goes from there–if Grinding Gear decides to continue the project–remains to be seen.

“I’d certainly like to release it–but if it’s bad, we won’t bother,” Wilson told GameSpot. “It’s looking good, so I’m expecting a release. [But] there’s questions. Does it have the Path of Exile 2 content? We can do that. I can basically press a button and it’s running on it. So it’s a matter of what do we want to position it as. Does it have its own storyline. We haven’t decided this kind of stuff yet.”

Path of Exile Mobile was announced during the ExileCon keynote with a silly, tongue-in-cheek trailer poking fun at some of the popular industry trends around mobile games. Path of Exile Mobile will not have any pay-to-win elements, and it’s being developed in-house as opposed to at a different studio.

The announcement trailer is well worth a watch–check it out in the video embed above.

Path of Exile Mobile was just one of the big reveals at ExileCon this weekend. Grinding Gear also announced Path of Exile 2, a new expansion for the base game, and more. For more on all the big reveals, check out GameSpot’s news roundup below.

Pokemon Go Adds Galarian Weezing And New Sword & Shield Trainer Outfits

Pokemon Sword and Shield have officially launched on Nintendo Switch, and Pokemon Go is celebrating the occasion with some new Sword and Shield-inspired content. Not only can you now get trainer outfits based on the main characters in the Switch Pokemon games, you’ll also have your first chance to catch a Galarian Pokemon.

Following November’s Community Day, Galarian Weezing will appear in four-star Raid Battles. Unlike a typical Weezing, this Galarian variant is a dual Poison/Fairy-type, and it has smokestacks on its heads that resemble top hats. Galarian Weezing will appear in Raids from 2-3 PM local time, immediately following today’s Community Day. After that hour, the Pokemon will periodically appear in Raids, so you’ll still have a chance to catch it.

No Caption Provided

As previously mentioned, Niantic has also added new avatar outfits for your trainer to Pokemon Go’s Style Shop. These are based on the default outfits worn by the male and female protagonists in Sword and Shield. You can read more details about the outfits and Galarian Weezing Raids on the official Pokemon Go website.

November’s Community Day runs from 11 AM – 2 PM local time today, November 16. This month’s featured Pokemon is Chimchar, the Fire-type starter from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Throughout the event, the fire chimp will appear in the wild much more often than normal, and if you can evolve it all the way into Infernape up to two hours after the Community Day ends, it’ll learn the powerful Fire-type attack Blast Burn.

Niantic has plenty of other Pokemon Go events lined up this month. Starting November 19, the developer is kicking off a Supereffective Week, during which you’ll have your first chance to catch a Shiny Tentacool. Then, on November 26, the Legendary Pokemon Terrakion will make its debut in five-star Raids. Finally, Niantic is holding Pokemon Go’s first-ever Friend Fest starting November 27. You can catch up on all the latest Pokemon Go news below.

Path Of Exile 2 Beta Starts Late 2020 At The Earliest

Path of Exile 2 was officially announced at ExileCon–and it looks very intriguing and compelling. Grinding Gear Games has now confirmed when the game will be available for the public.

The Path of Exile 2 website confirms that the first beta for the game will begin in “very late 2020” at the soonest. There is no projection of a release date for the full game, however.

As development continues on Path of Exile 2, Grinding Gear Games will continue to the support the base game, Path of Exile 1. The company said it remains committed to releasing Path of Exile 1 expansions once every three months. Whatever new content comes to Path of Exile 1 will also be available in the Path of Exile 2 update, as both games are being folded together in the future.

Path of Exile 2 is also expected to launch on consoles, including the PlayStation 5 and next-generation Xbox.

ExileCon Day 1 was packed with big news and reveals, the biggest of which was the announcement of Path of Exile 2. For lots more, check out the news roundup below.

Path Of Exile 2 Dev Responds To Diablo 4

Grinding Gear Games is confident that the just-announced Path of Exile 2 will be capable of going toe-to-toe with Blizzard’s Diablo IV. Speaking to GameSpot at ExileCon in New Zealand today, founder Chris Wilson described Path of Exile 2 as a “next-generation” action RPG that can stand alongside Diablo IV–which presumably has a larger development budget.

“Yeah,” Wilson said when asked if Path of Exile 2 can go toe-to-toe with Diablo IV. “Path of Exile 2 is one of the next-generation of action role-playing games, and we feel it’s well-positioned there.”

Wilson acknowledged that Blizzard’s status as one of the biggest and most well-funded studios on the planet is helping Diablo IV shine in some departments. However, Wilson argued that Path of Exile 2 has an edge due to its legacy and how it’s connected to Path of Exile 1.

“Any company with a lot of money can make really nice graphics and so on. They have amazing graphics as well and a great storyline and so on,” Wilson said of Blizzard and Diablo IV. “But what we have here [with Path of Exile 2] is bringing across six or seven years of content including all the balance and ecosystem. If you make a new game, maybe it’s bad? You don’t know until you play it. Whereas we know Path of Exile is good, and there are a lot of people out there who like that.”

Path of Exile 2 and Diablo IV aren’t going to square off anytime soon, it seems, as both titles are likely a long time away from release. Neither company is committing to a release date. Research company Cowen & Company said in its post-BlizzCon note to investors that they are expecting Diablo IV to launch no earlier than 2021.

As for Path of Exile 2, Wilson gave a small hint at the release window when he said the game may release at a point when the PS5 and next Xbox are in the marketplace. Both next-generation consoles are due to launch in Holiday 2020, and Path of Exile 2 is expected to be available for them (though not necessarily at launch, of course).

Both games are already playable. BlizzCon attendees had the opportunity to go hands on with a portion of Diablo IV, while those in attendance at ExileCon can play the beginning of Path of Exile 2.

Another interesting element at play when comparing Path of Exile 2 and Diablo IV is the tone of each title. From what we’ve seen so far, Diablo IV seems to take the series back to its darker, gorier roots. For what it’s worth, Path of Exile has always been a dark and gritty game. Some fans remarked that Path of Exile, with its darker tone, was more a successor to Diablo II than Diablo III was. Path of Exile launched in 2013, which was a year after Diablo III came out.

The dark tone for Path of Exile continues with Path of Exile 2, as the first trailer and gameplay footage demonstrated (watch again in the embed above). Not only that, but the company created a huge prop in the ExileCon hall featuring dead and dismembered bodies hanging from a tree. So yes, the dark tone is still intact for Path of Exile 2.

ExileCon runs November 16 and 17 in Auckland, so keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

Path Of Exile 2 Will Probably Come To PS5 And Xbox Scarlett, But Not Switch

It appears Path of Exile 2 will be coming to PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox–but not Nintendo Switch. In an interview at ExileCon in Auckland, Grinding Gear founder Chris Wilson told GameSpot that the plan is to release Path of Exile 2 on the current-generation of consoles and the ones to follow, though Nintendo’s hybrid console seems to be left out.

“We will update Path of Exile into Path of Exile 2 on all the platforms it is currently on,” he explained. “We, of course, will target new consoles as they’re available as well. And with our release timeline, it is very likely [Path of Exile 2] is on the new consoles as well.”

Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s next Xbox, currently codenamed Project Scarlett, are both slated for release during Holiday 2020. Path of Exile 2 is among the first titles we know are, or might be released on the new wave of consoles. Recently, Ubisoft announced that Watch Dogs 2, Gods & Monsters, and Rainbow Six Quarantine are headed to PS5 and the next-generation Xbox.

Path of Exile 2 does not have a release date. Wilson said during his keynote address at ExileCon that the studio won’t release the game until it’s confident in the quality of the product.

As for the Switch, Wilson confirmed to GameSpot that the studio hasn’t decided one way or the other at this point, but it doesn’t seem likely.

“We haven’t decided,” Wilson said about the possibility of Path of Exile 2 coming to Switch. “Honestly, there isn’t a secret project in development for Switch. I personally would like there to be. It’s just the team look horrified when I try to put more work on their plate.”

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – Here’s How Long It Takes To Finish

Respawn Entertainment’s foray into the Star Wars saga, Jedi: Fallen Order, is a dauntingly large game. It sports several planets, each with huge, interlocking maps with multiple pathways through them and tons of scattered secrets. Even just following the critical path, you’re going to put a lot of time into the game–and much more if you’re diligent in uncovering all the upgrades and story collectibles hidden within.

We worked our way through the game ahead of its release for our Jedi: Fallen Order review, and then dove back in post-release to see what more was secreted away in the depths of Zeffo, Kashyyyk, and Dathomir. If you’re looking to get everything, you’re going to be here for a while–the planets are huge and there are whole areas, like Zeffo’s Venator Wreckage area, that are completely optional (and only accessible late in the game when you’ve acquired a bunch of specific Force powers).

For our review, I put in some 22 hours into Jedi: Fallen Order, mixing following the critical path with searching for secrets and knocking out optional mini-bosses. In those 22 hours, I unlocked somewhere between 75% and 90% of the map for all the planets you’ll visit through the course of the game. So if you’re interested in looking around, expect Jedi: Fallen Order to take you about 20 hours to finish–maybe more like 18 if you aren’t interested in hunting for secrets and leaving the critical path. Explorations is pretty deeply ingrained in the DNA of Jedi: Fallen Order, though, so don’t expect a map marker to take you straight to your next destination most of the time–you’re going to have to find your own way there.

If you’re bent on finding everything that Jedi: Fallen Order has to offer, it might take you significantly longer. Returning to Zeffo, the planet I had cleared the least of by the time Fallen Order’s credits rolled, I managed to sink another three hours in hunting secrets, treasure chests, and story items–and I haven’t completed the planet yet. Completionists should expect to sink in at least 25-30 hours into Jedi: Fallen Order.

You’ll be rewarded for your efforts, though. While treasure chests exclusively contain cosmetic items for Cal, BD-1, the Mantis ship, and your lightsaber, you’ll also find lots of Force echoes throughout the game that give snatches of story. Some areas, like the aforementioned Venator Wreckage, offer significant challenge and their own self-contained stories in the form of echoes, which also inform Cal’s character. So while hunting down every little thing might seem like more trouble than its worth once you’ve finished the game, know that there might be more story for Jedi: Fallen Order to tell, if you’re willing to dedicate the time.
