The New Guilty Gear Unveils Two Returning Characters In Its Latest Trailer

The latest trailer for the new Guilty Gear shows off two more characters who are coming back for this upcoming release.

The game, which was revealed during Evo 2019 with a trailer featuring Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske, has been slowly unveiling its cast across a series of trailers. We found out that May is returning to the series not long after its initial reveal, as well as Axl Low. Now, in anticipation of a playable demo popping up at fighting tournament Arcrevo America 2019, two more fighters have been revealed.

First up is Chipp Zanuff, who appeared in the first game in the series as well as numerous sequels. He carries an arm-blade, as well as various ninja tools, such as a kunai and shuriken. He’s looking extremely jacked, and he’ll be able to divide himself up and attack as multiple copies of himself.

Potempkin is also shown off for the first time in this trailer. He’s another character who originated in the first Guilty Gear, and while he might look like a robot there’s actually a person under all that armor. Based on this trailer, it looks like he’ll have a lot of range with his attacks, although his size could also make him an easy target.

The most recent game in the Guilty Gear series, Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2, released in 2017. The final name for the new Guilty Gear has not yet been announced, but it will release on PlayStation 4.

Terminator: Resistance’s Gameplay Trailer Shows How The Game Mixes Stealth And Action

Terminator: Resistance is the latest game set within the Terminator universe, and it’s going to pit you against the Terminators once again. The game casts players as Jacob Rivers, a character who is taking part in John Connor’s resistance against Skynet in the Terminator timeline established by the first two films. It’s set shortly after Judgement Day, and technically serves as a prequel to the original film, following events before Kyle Reese is sent back in time.

The new gameplay trailer gives us a look at the game’s combat, but also hints towards its stealthier elements. Your robot enemies will be impervious against regular weapons; if you’re not equipped with lasers, you’ll have to hide from the Terminators. The footage below shows Rivers shooting at classic T-1000 exoskeletons, as well as turrets and flying drones, but it also shows moments where you might have to avoid combat, or use an electro-knife to take down enemies.

The soundtrack should be familiar to any fans of the action movie franchise. It does not appear that the events of Terminator: Dark Fate, the latest film in the series, will factor in at all.

The last console game set in the Terminator universe, Terminator Salvation, released in 2010 to tepid reviews. Meanwhile the T-1000, as played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the films, recently joined the cast of Mortal Kombat 11–he does not appear to feature in this game, though. Terminator: Resistance is releasing for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on November 15 in Europe and Australia, and then later on December 10 in North America.

Dragon Age Writer’s New Game Nearing Funding Target, Romance Options Detailed

The first game from Dragon Age writer David Gaider’s new studio is closer to becoming a reality. The crowdfunding campaign for Chorus: An Adventure Musical has now reached 90 percent of its goal.

At press time, the campaign on Fig has raised $541,374 of its $600,000 goal. The campaign ends on November 10, so there is just under a week to go before it wraps up.

Chorus is a musical adventure game where the key moments play out in song. It’s a new concept for a game, and the team at Summerfall Studios bypassed the traditional publisher relationship to bring it to life.

Despite not having the funding of a big publisher, the company has secured top talent to work on it. Prolific voice actress Laura Bailey (Gears of War, Halo, Uncharted) is voicing the main character, Grace, while another veteran voice actor, Troy Baker (Uncharted, Far Cry, Batman) is the voice director. Grammy-nominated composer Austin Wintory (Journey) is also working on the music.

The story follows Grace in a sweeping narrative involving gods, music, and other-worldly creatures. “In Chorus, we follow Grace’s story as she finds herself thrust into a high-stakes world of weary gods and fantastical creatures after her new bandmate dies bleeding in her apartment–but not before granting Grace the divine power of song,” reads a line from the game’s description. “When the gods accuse her of murdering Calliope, the ‘fair-voiced’ muse, Grace must discover the truth… before the gods take her life in exchange.”

Chorus takes its inspiration from a number of different sources, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s musical episode, “Once More With Feeling,” the dialogue and companions of Dragon Age, and the quirkiness of Dream Daddy.

In a post to the Chorus Fig page, Summerfall teased that it is preparing “something cool” to wrap up the campaign later this month. While that remains a mystery, the company did release a new song (embedded below) and announced more details on the game’s romance options.

Gaider explained that romance in Chorus will work similarly to Dragon Age, Baldur’s Gate 2, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. In Chorus, the romance choices give players the opportunity to experience a “independent story arc” based on the particular romance. This story arc will culminate in a distinct song.

“You don’t have to romance anyone if you don’t want to, but if you do, know that the romance arcs are tied directly into the main story,” Gaider wrote. “They’re not a side feature, but rather have a direct impact on how the main story unfolds and particularly how it ends. Grace needs allies to win the day, and nothing would improve her chances more than being able to make her stand at the very end with someone she loves at her side!”

Gaider also confirmed the extent of Chorus’s romance options–there will be at least two different romance arcs in the game, including the characters Apollo and Persephone. If funding reaches $650,000, Summerfall will add two more romance options: Pan and Freddie.

You can read excerpts from the Apollo and Persephone romance options by following these links: Apollo, Persephone.

Grace and Persephone

Summerfall also announced new stretch goals for Chorus. At $700,000, the studio will add more songs and voiceover, including one song for each romance. If funding reaches $725,000, the studio will create a “Making Of” documentary that chronicles the development of the game, including interviews with the developers. Should funding reach $750,000, Summerfall will add additional voiceover, while Gaider will play a game of D&D and stream it live. Finally, at $900,000, the studio will add “full voiceover” for the entire game.

Finally, Summerfall told hopeful fans to stay patient. The studio has not yet begun the writing process–instead, the team is “still in the preparing, planning, and brainstorming stage.” The studio said it takes writing very seriously, and as such, it is taking time to make sure it lays the right foundation.

“When the time comes, we’ll be seeking out professional consultation as needed and hiring on at least one additional writer to help with the workload,” Summerfall said.

You can kick in around $25 to secure a copy of Chorus on Fig. Unlike Kickstarter, Fig allows people to invest in Chorus and share in the success if Chorus takes off. More information about investment back and other details are available on the Chorus Fig page.

As for the Dragon Age series, BioWare recently teased that it might announce more details on the long-awaited Dragon Age 4 during an event in December.

The Sims Series Has Surpassed $5 Billion In Lifetime Sales

The Sims has surpassed an extraordinary sales milestone according to EA’s latest financial report.

As part of their quarterly earning report, EA revealed plenty about their current success stories. Apex Legends has reached 70 million players, for instance, and will now be treated as an annual franchise. CEO Andrew Wilson also singled out The Sims 4 as a strong performer, with an average monthly player count that rose 40% in 2019.

Now, thanks thanks to Wilson’s earnings call, we know exactly how much money The Sims franchise has made since the first game released in 2000.

“Engagement across the franchise has led The Sims to surpass $5 billion in lifetime sales,” Wilson stated. “The Sims continues to be one of the great franchise in gaming, and we have plans to bring new experiences to its amazing players for a long time to come.”

The Sims has long been a strong seller and a cultural phenomenon. The next expansion for The Sims 4, Discover University, will release for PC on November 14. The long-running series will return to Steam in the coming months, with The Sims 4 being made available on the storefront for the first time.

Another Fire Emblem Remake For 3DS Was Reportedly Cancelled–Will It Come To Switch Instead?

The news last month that 3DS developer AlphaDream has gone bankrupt reportedly led to the internal cancellations of several 3DS games that were in the works, including a remake of a previous game in the Fire Emblem series.

This news comes via Greg Miller’s Kinda Funny podcast during a chat with former Game Informer senior editor Imran Khan. At around the 45:20 mark of the video below, the two discuss Nintendo’s statements on the strong sales of the Switch Lite, and the likelihood that this will lead to more 3DS franchises coming to Nintendo’s new handheld.

The Switch Lite sold 1.95 million units in its first 11 days of release, showing that there’s still an appetite for handheld-dedicated consoles. But things aren’t looking so good for Nintendo’s older handheld: Khan notes on the podcast, AlphaDream’s Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey for the 3DS sold terribly despite strong reviews. According to Khan, the game shipped “something like” 11,000 units in its first month.

“When that happened, I heard that Nintendo cancelled a bunch of further 3DS plans,” Khan states. “I know there was another Fire Emblem remake in the works. And that was one of the things they shuttered.” He goes on to speculate the possibility of that game eventually coming to Switch.

It would make sense–the last Fire Emblem remake on the 3DS, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia was well-received, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses on Switch has enjoyed the best sales figures of the series. Another Fire Emblem game on the series seems like a safe bet, especially if development was already underway.

This is in no way confirmed, though–so for now, if you want more Fire Emblem on Switch, consider investigating the excellent New Game Plus perks in Three Houses.

Halo Master Chief Collection PC–Here Are The Minimum System Requirements For Halo: Reach

If you want to run Halo: Reach on your PC, you won’t need the most up-to-date machine. 343 Industries want to make sure that the game scales on all types of computers, “ranging from bleeding edge to near potatoes”.

We learned back in March that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming to PC, and that you’ll be able to buy the games individually, with Halo: Reach arriving first (and it’s also coming to the Xbox One version). Now, months after the game’s PC beta, 343 Industries has revealed the minimum system requirements for Halo Reach in a post on Halo Waypoint. You can see them below.

“With the help of the Halo Insider program we have received feedback and monitored how the title has played on a wide range of systems and below are the currently recommended minimum specifications for the Steam version of Reach on PC,” the post reads.

No Caption Provided

Depending on whether or not you want to run the game at 1080p or 4K, the system requirements are a bit different. The recommended specs have not been released yet, but should be made available at a later date.

“We are in the process of testing more options with integrated graphics but are not ready to share that information quite yet,” the post reads. “The specs will be slightly different for the Windows Store version as well and will be shared at a later time.”

Halo: Reach was the final Halo game developed by Bungie. In GameSpot’s original 2010 review of the Xbox 360 version of Halo: Reach, Chris Watters gave the game a 9.5/10, calling it “a towering achievement that delivers an enormous amount of engaging content that players will no doubt be enjoying for years to come.” A release date for the PC version has not been confirmed yet.

Dragon Age 4 News Might Be Coming Soon

It looks like BioWare is preparing to reveal some news about the long-awaited Dragon Age 4 in the coming weeks. The studio celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Dragon Age franchise with a tweet that teased some kind of further reveal on December 4.

BioWare is holding a party of sorts on that date to celebrate the franchise’s 10th birthday. Dragon Age: Origins, the first game in the series, was released on November 3, 2009. Dragon Age II was released in 2011, with Dragon Age: Inquisition following in 2014.

It seems there might be some news about Dragon Age 4 during the event. BioWare ended its statement by saying fans should tune in for “Dragon 4ge Day!” which is seemingly in reference to Dragon Age 4.

The timing in December is curious and intriguing. In December 2018, BioWare released the first teaser trailer for Dragon Age 4 during The Game Awards, so there is a precedent for a December reveal. That show is returning this year on December 12, but there is no word on whether or not Dragon Age 4 will be at the event.

Even if there is some Dragon Age 4 news in December, fans will have to wait a while longer to actually play the game. Publisher Electronic Arts recently confirmed that Dragon Age 4 is still two or more years away from release.

In a 2018 blog post, BioWare’s Mark Darrah confirmed that Dragon Age 4 has been in the works for “quite a while.” Some of the “core” team that worked on the previous Dragon Age games are back for the new one, while BioWare’s plan is to “push BioWare’s storytelling to the next level.”

The Dragon Age franchise hasn’t seen a new release since 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition. That game was well received and it was a commercial success.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Update Released, See The Patch Notes Here

A new update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is now available. The newest title update includes a number of fixes and tweaks, beginning with additional fixes that help improve stability and minimize the likelihood of game crashes.

Additionally, developer Infinity Ward has removed all battle chatter–that is, the brief lines of dialogue that characters say during matches–from Modern Warfare’s one-life modes. This sounds like a welcome change, as the more tactical, one-life modes require strategy and stealth, and hearing the loud callouts can lead to a negative experience. Connected to this, Infinity Ward has changed the sound of footsteps–the footstep sounds will now “filter out” based on occlusion effects.

Another change in the update includes how stun grenades can now disable claymores for 3 seconds. This is another big change, as players have been reporting that claymores can trend toward the over-powered side.

You can see the full rundown of changes to the gameplay and what’s new in the multiplayer playlists below, as posted by Infinity Ward on Reddit.

Modern Warfare multiplayer design director Joe Cecot added that Infinity Ward is working on additional changes and updates to come later. In the future, Infinity Ward will release updates that further restrict the player call out logic and prevent enemies from hearing these call outs across all modes. There will also be further changes to weapon tuning and spawn locations.

Title Update/Playlist Update

Title Update:

  • More fixes to prevent crashes and improve stability across all platforms
  • Battlechatter has been removed from tactical, one-life modes
  • APCs and Tanks in Ground War no longer award points towards a nuke
  • Fix for charms affecting weapon performance when firing from the hip
  • Claymores: Stun grenades can now force claymores into a disabled state for 3 seconds
  • Footsteps: Adjustments to tame the 3rd person footsteps. They will now filter out based on occlusion more.
  • Fix to an issue where Tac Inserts could cause players to spawn out of bounds
  • Fix for the gold camo not unlocking on the .357

Playlist Update:

  • NVG (TDM only)
  • Ground War
  • Gunfight
  • Kill Confirmed
  • FFA

Blizzcon 2019: Overwatch 2’s New Campaign Looks To Be The Story Mode Fans Have Always Wanted

Since its debut in 2016, Overwatch has become one of Blizzard’s most recognizable and prolific games. Focusing on PvP engagements with a cast of charismatic heroes and villains, Overwatch’s team-based first-person shooter gameplay has become a fun and accessible favorite among Blizzard’s litany of dense role-playing games and real-time strategy experiences. In the lead up to Blizzcon 2019, there were rumblings that a sequel to the live-service shooter was in the works, and it all turned out to be true, with game director Jeff Kaplan taking to the Blizzcon stage to reveal Overwatch 2. Moving forward in the series’ timeline, the familiar crew of globe-trotting heroes will battle the forces of Null Sector in the sequel, while also preparing for their confrontation with the anti-heroes of Black Talon.

What makes Overwatch 2 a proper sequel to the original is that it will expand the franchise’s scope with a fleshed-out PvE experience and dedicated story missions. These co-op focused engagements pit you and a squad of other players against AI enemies. Shifting towards a more Destiny-style experience, you’ll also be able to level up and customize aspects of your favorite heroes as they contend with the twists and turns of the evolving story. The biggest, and likely most welcome change that this new experience will bring, is that this new pillar of Overwatch will allow for the characters to show off more of their backstories and growing relationships with the other heroes.

No Caption Provided

Overwatch has been the hero shooter for many years, so seeing its shift towards more PvE gameplay might be something of an adjustment for longtime fans. But according to Overwatch 2’s lead producer Matthew Hawley and lead combat designer Geoff Goodman, it was a long time coming, and it’s all about taking steps to move the franchise forward.

“It needed a change. Obviously, we’ve been really seeing new heroes and new maps and arcade, all these great features throughout time, but we’ve always had this big idea and we wanted to do this big, much larger game that couldn’t quite be contained in the normal little patch cycle,” said Goodman. “It was great initially when we had some of the cooperative stuff we released as live releases with special events, and seeing the response there was just like, ‘Okay good people are on board. This is really cool because this is what we really wanted to do,’ and just seeing the response here today has been amazing, so we’re really, really excited.”

Overwatch 2 is about reframing its larger story in ways that the original’s PvP focus could not. The prospect of PvE engagements isn’t entirely a new thing in Overwatch. The limited-time events known Archives were essentially Overwatch’s story missions and brought a squad of players together to fight off waves of enemies in narrative-driven adventures. As it turns out, these limited-timed events in the original game were just a sampling of what was to come with Overwatch 2. In the sequel, these have been evolved into new narrative-driven missions and stand-alone co-op engagements, which have a squad of players fight through levels full of enemies and mini-bosses. Overwatch 2’s PvE also features a more in-depth character customization system, allowing you to select different perks and modifiers for the roster–it seems like Overwatch 2 is becoming a more fleshed out and varied game.

At Blizzcon, we got to play a story mission set in Rio De Janeiro. While this map is a well-known place for PvP engagements, on this occasion, it’s also hosting a fleshed-out story mission involving Tracer, Reinhardt, Mei, and Lucio, as they face off against minions from Null Sector, a growing extremist group bent on causing chaos in the world. As you’re fighting through the stage, bashing, slashing, and shooting different AI robots, you’ll hear banter from the various characters.

The standout moment from the level was the climax, which had our team work together to destroy a reactor inside Null Sector’s ship. While we were battling waves of monsters, we used our character’s various skills to defend ourselves, and the new gadgets found in the mission allowed us to toss special grenades and activate turrets. It gave me similar vibes to Left 4 Dead, which focused on passive, in the moment storytelling to show off character moments and changes in the environment. However, a significant difference with Overwatch 2 is that these familiar heroes will evolve and grow over time.

When playing in the PvE mode, you’ll be able to develop and modify your character’s skills. Playing as Reinhardt, I chose an ability called Frenzy, which caused his hammer swings to increase in speed after consecutive hits. For anyone who knows a particular character intimately, these changes are immediately noticeable. During PvE, these skills were immensely helpful against the waves of AI enemies we fought, but I couldn’t help but think about what these new powers and modifiers could mean for PvP gameplay. This was a discussion that the developers have had for some time as it turns out. However, the developers stressed that the new skills and hero ability customization would be for the co-op missions only.

No Caption Provided

Though it’s a sequel that will offer new experiences, players who want to hold off on getting into Overwatch 2 can still play the first game, as it will receive new updates alongside the sequel. According to the developers, Overwatch 1 players will get to play with Overwatch 2 owners on the same PvP maps and see all the new multiplayer levels with free updates. New heroes in Overwatch 2 will also release for Overwatch 1 as well, which will make PvP gameplay mostly comparable between the two. However, if you want to see where Overwatch’s new story and co-op missions go, you’ll have to take the plunge and purchase the sequel.

“There’s a lot of meat to Overwatch 2, but we thought it was really important that something like the new PvP mode Push and that all the multiple new maps that we’re adding for each of the core game modes, will be available to fans who have been so loyal to us,” said Hawley. “Overwatch 1 players can still play with Overwatch 2 players, even if they’re not into all that other stuff. They’ll still be able to get to play all of the competitive content add into Overwatch 2.”

At its core, Overwatch 2 was still very much the Overwatch you’re familiar with, albeit with a new look for many of its heroes and some new locales to explore. The demo at Blizzcon 2019 showed off a lot of what made me enjoy Overwatch–those fun and exciting moments that we often see dramatized in Blizzard’s trailers. Though we saw brief glimpses of those character moments in the familiar PvP engagements, the characters get to shine more in the new PvE mode, which I really dug. I could see myself spending a lot of time in the new missions, which will show off more backstories and new plot threads with the various heroes.

No Caption Provided

Overwatch has always been about offering fun and active engagements with a crew of charismatic characters, and getting to see those characters in new forms of combat encounters–that still rely on team-work–was exciting. Blizzard is beginning to explore more of what makes Overwatch’s world and characters so compelling, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the franchise goes from here. Now, all we need to figure out is when we’ll play it.
