Battleborn Is Shutting Down And Will Be Completely Unplayable
Three years after launch and two years after going free-to-play, Gearbox’s Battleborn is officially shutting down. Publisher 2K Games announced that the servers will go offline in January 2021.
2K Games confirmed that it plans to “focus [its] efforts and resources on other projects” following the announcement. The company tweeted that it is “extremely proud of the work that went into the game [and] will continue to provide updates on the sunsetting of the title when appropriate.”
[1/3] Today we have begun the process of gradually sunsetting Battleborn. Starting February 24, 2020, you will no longer be able to purchase virtual currency for use in the game.

Until 2021, Battleborn will remain playable in some form. 2K Games clarified in a blog post that the game’s premium currency, Platinum, will no longer be purchasable after February 24, 2020. Any currency you have stockpiled can still be spent until the servers get deactivated in 2021. You will no longer be able to play Battleborn in any capacity once the servers go offline, including the game’s single-player campaign.
Battleborn has already been removed from digital storefronts like the PlayStation Store and Steam. However, the game can still be purchased from physical retailers such as Target and Walmart.
We gave the game a 7/10 in our Battleborn review, saying, “The varied cast of heroes adds longevity, but the game still feels relatively content light. With so many moving parts that never quite gel, I found plenty of things to love but just as much to feel confused by and ambivalent about.”
