Mortal Kombat 11 Will Be Free To Play This Weekend (PS4, Xbox One)
One of 2019’s biggest games will soon be open to everyone, but only for a short time. Starting this Friday, October 11, you can jump into Mortal Kombat 11 on PS4 or Xbox One and play for free. The free trial period will run all weekend, ending Monday, October 14. Of course, you’ll need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold for online play, but if you’re not subscribed to either, you can still download the trial and access offline content.

The free trial includes enough content to keep you busy this weekend. You’ll be able to play two chapters of Mortal Kombat 11’s story mode as well as local and online 1v1 matches with the base roster. You’ll also have access to The Krypt, Fatality training, and the Towers of Time mode, the latter of which you’ll be able to play as Terminator, Nightwolf, and Shang Tsung.
If you like the game, you can grab it for 40% off at the PlayStation and Xbox Stores this weekend, dropping the price of the standard edition to $36 from $60. The Premium edition, which normally sells for $90, will be discounted to $54 and includes the Kombat Pack, adding new playable characters, character skins, and exclusive gear sets. And as usual with these free trial periods, any progress you make will be rolled over into the full game if you purchase it.
In GameSpot’s Mortal Kombat 11 review, critic Edmond Tran had excellent things to say about the game’s deep, yet accessible fighting system, diverse roster of classic characters and interesting new additions, and more. Mortal Kombat 11 earned a 9/10.
“MK11 isn’t just a sequel for series fans and NetherRealm devotees, it’s a gateway into the realm of fighting games for anyone who has a passing interest in watching ruthless warriors beat each other silly,” he wrote. “Streamlined mechanics keep the act of fighting furiously exciting no matter what your skill level, and comprehensive tutorials encourage you to dig into the nitty-gritty. There’s a diverse roster of interesting characters and playstyles, and the story mode is an entertaining romp. The randomization of Krypt rewards and the odd issue with the game’s always-online nature can occasionally chip away at your patience, but Mortal Kombat 11 absolutely hits where it matters.”
