Overwatch 2 Lets You Carry Over All Your Skins And Progress
Blizzard capped off its BlizzCon 2019 Opening Ceremony by unveiling Overwatch 2, a follow-up to its popular hero shooter. The game introduces new maps, heroes, modes, and other changes to the formula, but Blizzard assures that Overwatch 1 players won’t be left out of the fun.
Speaking during the Opening Ceremony, game director Jeff Kaplan confirmed that Overwatch 2 will feature a “shared multiplayer environment,” which means Overwatch 1 players will also get to play on all the same maps and use the same heroes as those playing Overwatch 2.
Moreover, Kaplan confirmed that all the cosmetics and progress you earned in the first Overwatch will carry over to the sequel. “We want to make sure that all Overwatch cosmetics come forward with you into Overwatch 2,” Kaplan said. “So all of your progress matters. Nothing is getting left behind, no one is getting left behind.”
Blizzard hasn’t revealed many details about Overwatch 2 yet, but one area where the game will differ from its predecessor is its greater emphasis on story. This time around, Overwatch 2 will feature cooperative PvE Story Missions, which have players “take an active role in the Overwatch saga as a new global crisis unfolds through a series of intense, high-stakes four-player missions.”
On top of that are Hero Missions, a “highly replayable mode” that Blizzard likens to Diablo III‘s Adventure mode. Here, players can take on co-op missions, which will let them level up their heroes and unlock new customization options for their abilities. Blizzard is also introducing a new “core” PvP mode called Push, as well as several new heroes to the game, the first of whom will be Sojourn.
There were a ton of other announcements during the BlizzCon 2019 Opening Ceremony, from the reveal of Diablo IV to a new World of Warcraft expansion. Be sure the check our full BlizzCon 2019 coverage below.
