If you’re eager to get your hands on something now, rather than looking to things that still won’t release for months (or years, presumably, in the case of Breath of the Wild’s sequel), a slate of new games are out now on Switch’s Eshop. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Will Span Two Discs, Square Enix Confirms At E3 2019

Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference started off with an exciting and in-depth presentation of Final Fantasy VII Remake for PS4. The publisher gave us an overview of the game’s revamped combat system, which mixes real-time action with the Active-Time Battle system. We also learned that the game will be quite massive, featuring two Blu-ray discs’ worth of gameplay content.

It seems the sheer amount of content is why it’ll take up so much space. Square Enix had previously said the Final Fantasy VII remake would come in multiple parts or episodes. As producer Yoshinori Kitase explained during an E3 press preview, however, the first “game” is “set in the eclectic city of Midgar and presents a fully standalone gaming experience,” effectively making it the first leg of the original version of FFVII. Kitase said Square Enix isn’t sure yet how many episodes Final Fantasy VII Remake will require, or how long development of additional episodes will take.

That wasn’t the only Final Fantasy VII news to come out of the press conference; Square Enix also showed off an extended version of the trailer that was revealed during June 9’s Final Fantasy concert. This one gave us our first look at Tifa, along with more footage of the revamped battle system.

Square Enix also unveiled two new special editions for the game, including a $330 1st Class edition. All of this comes on the heels of Sunday’s night announcement of a March 2020 release date for the much-anticipated remake, which releases exclusively on PS4. Kitase said during the presentation that the team “will not disappoint your expectations.” You can read more in our Final Fantasy VII Remake pre-order guide.

E3 2019 is steadily drawing to a close, so check the full schedule to see what presentations are left. And check back here for all the latest and hottest announcements and news updates.

E3 2019: Mario Maker 2 Getting An Update That Lets You Play Online With Friends

Super Mario Maker 2 introduces a variety of new tools and features for players to tinker around with, but one of the biggest additions in the game is online and local multiplayer–albeit with a caveat. Initially, the title won’t allow you to play online with friends; it will only match you up with strangers, much to the disappointment of many. However, that option is thankfully coming after all.

During a Treehouse livestream following Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct, game producer Takashi Tezuka revealed that Nintendo will implement the ability to play online with friends. Following the stream, the Nintendo of America Twitter account confirmed this will be added to the game through a post-launch update, although it didn’t share when that is expected to arrive.

Mario Maker 2 features two online multiplayer modes: Versus and Co-Op. As their names suggest, Versus is a more competitive mode that has players racing to reach the goal first; Co-Op, on the other hand, has players working together to clear the level. You can also pass a second controller to a nearby player and build levels together. Mario Maker 2 introduces a Story mode and makes some other welcome changes as well, such as giving you access to almost all of its tools right from the start.

Super Mario Maker 2 launches for Nintendo Switch on June 28. You’ll need to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription in order to play and share levels online, but Nintendo is offering a bundle that includes the game and a 12-month NSO subscription for a discount. You can read more in our Super Mario Maker 2 pre-order guide.

Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct brought a ton of news and reveals. We got a closer look at Luigi’s Mansion 3 and The Legend of Zelda; Link’s Awakening. We also saw two new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC characters: Dragon Quest’s Hero and Banjo-Kazooie. The biggest announcement, however, was a Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel.

E3 2019: New Contra Game Announced For Nintendo Switch At E3 2019

The Contra franchise returns this year with a new Nintendo Switch game called Contra Rogue Corps. Announced during Nintendo’s E3 2019 briefing, Rogues is a third-person, behind-the-shoulder title that also features moments that are presented from a top-down perspective and from the side. You can play solo or fight against other humans with online or local multiplayer.

The Contra series debuted all the way back in 1987, and since then Konami has continued to release new instalments, though releases have slowed in recent years. 2011’s Hard Corps: Uprising is the latest instalment in the series, serving as a prequel to Contra: Hard Corps for the Sega Genesis.

Contra Rogue Corps is due for release on September 24, 2019
