PS4 System Update 7.00 Out Now, Here’s What It Does

Sony’s big firmware update, version 7.00, is now out in the wild for all PS4 users to download. Updating to the newest software version brings changes to parties and enhancements to Remote Play functionality.

As noted on the PlayStation blog, version 7.00 introduces a number of changes to PS4 parties. Alongside increasing the maximum number from eight to 16, Sony confirms that party audio quality and network connectivity have been improved. Further, Chat Transcription has been added exclusively to the US for greater accessibility via the Second Screen app. This feature allows you to convert English voice chat to text, as well as entering text to have it read aloud for other party members.

Remote Play has been enhanced for Apple devices and introduced as a brand-new feature for Android users. Those on Android are required to run software version 5.0 or higher, while Apple users need iOS 13, iPadOS 13, or macOS Catalina to make use of Remote Play. You can also use the DualShock 4 via Bluetooth for Remote Play on either mobile platform.

While the PS4 continues to sell exceptionally well, the company’s looking ahead at the next-generation of consoles. PS5, officially called the PlayStation 5, has been announced and will arrive holiday 2020 alongside the Xbox Scarlett.
