Fortnite John Wick’s Bounty LTM Arrives: Skin, Challenges, And More Detailed

To coincide with the release of John Wick 3, Epic Games has launched an event that brings the stoic assassin to Fortnite, allowing players to unlock a number of cool customization options that will proudly show off their love of the film series. The Wick’s Bounty LTM is live now on all platforms, as are the challenges that will get you the rewards.

Said rewards include Back Bling styled after the Gold Coin the assassins in the world of John Wick use as currency, the one Shot Glider, and the Boogeyman Wrap. Those are all free, but if you spend some V-Bucks in the in-game shop, you can also get the John Wick outfit and the Simple Sledge Pickaxe.

The LTM involves taking out enemies for coins. However, the more enemies you kill, the more obvious you become to remaining players, which means the bigger the target on your back. This fits nicely with the overall plot of John Wick 3, which sees the character fighting for his life thanks to a bounty that has been placed on his head. You can see the details for the LTM below, as well as the challenges and the rewards.

Devil May Cry 5 Director Would Like DmC 2, But Only From Ninja Theory

While it was controversial with series fans from the moment it was announced, DmC: Devil May Cry was largely well-received by critics. Positive review scores aren’t the only beacon of good fortune for the divisive entry in the hack ‘n’ slash franchise, however, as Hideaki Itsuno, the director of multiple Devil May Cry titles, would love a sequel.

According to a report from USGamer, Itsuno–who’s worked also worked on multiple other Capcom games including Power Stone, Capcom Vs. SNK 2, and Dragon’s Dogma–would have no problem with a DmC 2. But there’s a catch: for Itsuno, British developer Ninja Theory has to be on the project again. Otherwise, as Capcom producer Matt Walker added, “It wouldn’t be DmC without Ninja Theory.”

“On the dev side we certainly wanted to and thought we would work with Ninja Theory again to create a sequel to DmC, but that unfortunately didn’t get off the ground,” said Itsuno, who expressed interest in a sequel.

Walker agreed with the sentiment, saying, “We’d still love to see a sequel, but we think it absolutely has to be made by Ninja Theory–so much of the amazing style and substance in that game was only possible because they have such a knack for what’s cool.”

Apart from DmC, Ninja Theory is most known for developing action games such as Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Heavenly Sword, and the critically-acclaimed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (which recently made the jump to Nintendo Switch). Ninja Theory was acquired by Microsoft and folded into the company’s Xbox Game Studios in 2018, meaning if a DmC sequel were to happen, it’d require Microsoft’s blessing to be multiplatform or end up an Xbox and PC exclusive.

In our DmC: Definitive Edition review, we said that the “numerous tweaks and upgrades of DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition have made a game that isn’t just a better version of DmC, but a bonafide hack ‘n’ slash classic.”

While a DmC 2 may not be in the works any time soon, fans of the action franchise recently got Devil May Cry 5 to tide them over, which we awarded a 9/10.

Nintendo Switch Surpasses PlayStation 4 Lifetime Sales In Japan

The Nintendo Switch has now surpassed the lifetime sales of Sony’s PlayStation 4 in Japan. New numbers from Famtisu (via GI.biz) show that the Swtich has now sold 8.13 million consoles in Japan, which is slightly ahead of the 8.07 million PS4s sold in Japan.

It’s a particularly impressive achievement for the Switch in Japan, as it’s only been on sale for two years compared to the PS4 which has been sold in Japan for five years already.

On a global basis, however, Sony’s PS4 is miles ahead of the Switch. Sony has sold 96.8 million PS4 consoles worldwide, which compares to 34.74 million Switch systems sold globally.

GI.biz points out that portable systems historically perform better in Japan than other parts of the world, which may explain in part why the Switch has done so well there.

Multiple new models of the Nintendo Switch are reportedly in production, though neither will be announced at E3. Additionally, Nintendo is working with Chinese internet giant Tencent to release the Switch in the country. This could potentially be massive for Nintendo, as the number of people who play video games in China is huge.

In other news, Nintendo today announced many more details about the much-anticipated Switch game Super Mario Maker 2.

Free Xbox One Game: The Golf Club 2019 Is Free Right Now With Xbox Live Gold

The Golf Club 2019, which is the third entry in the series and the first with the official PGA Tour license, is free on Xbox Live right now. It’s free on Xbox One for Xbox Live Gold members through the Game with Gold program. The game is available for subscribers at no extra cost until June 15, and as long as you’re Gold subscription remains active, you can keep playing.

The game was released in 2018 and has been marked down to $30 USD, but free is an even better deal if you’re a Gold member and you like golf. The previous release, The Golf Club 2, is included with Xbox Game Pass.

GameSpot’s review of The Golf Club 2019 scored it an 8/10. Other reviews were mostly positive as well, but you should know that this is a challenging golf sim, not an arcade game.

The Golf Club 2019 features the PGA Tour license which brings a number of real-world Tour courses to the game, including TPC Boston, while the game has a course-editor, too.

The game goes free on Xbox Live at a time when golf is surging into a new level of prominence and attention, as the PGA Championship–one of golf’s four Majors–takes place in New York starting Thursday.

The other Xbox game that recently dropped to the low, low price of $0.00 on Xbox Live is the backwards-compatible Xbox 360 title Comic Jumper.

Another Pokemon Mobile Game Announced, Out Now In Some Regions

From nowhere, The Pokemon Company has announced and released a new mobile game. Named Pokemon Rumble Rush, the free-to-play title is available now in Australia and is “coming soon” to the rest of the world.

Rumble Rush is a mobile entry into the brawler-focused Pokemon Rumble series. It was previously announced in 2017 under a different name–Pokeland–before disappearing into the abyss. The Pokemon Company has now re-revealed it and launched it simultaneously.

It appears Rumble Rush will include live updates, with the game’s official Play Store description stating, “The islands and seas explored during your adventures change every two weeks.” The mobile game is available to download now on Android in Australia; a worldwide release and an iOS version are listed as “coming soon” on the game’s official website.

Rumble Rush is developed by Ambrella, the same studio behind the four previous titles in the Rumble series. This means Rumble Rush is not the same Pokemon mobile game teased by DeNA just recently.

Pokemon Sword and Shield for Nintendo Switch are also due to launch in the next few months; no release date has been announced, but they’re scheduled to be released in 2019. We might learn more during Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct presentation, which kicks off on June 11 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST (2 AM AET on June 12).

Horror Mangaka Junji Ito Talks Silent Hills Involvement

Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills was canceled in March 2015 due to conflicts between Kojima’s team and publisher Konami. While most of the high-profile individuals involved have since offered their two cents on the matter–including filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim), who’s had some choice words for the Japanese publisher–horror manga artist Junji Ito recently discussed his role with the project.

Ito, while at the Toronto Comics Art Festival this past weekend, was asked about his involvement with Silent Hills. His responses come via translation thanks to Twitter user MinovskyArticle.

Though he may not have had the opportunity to contribute his signature brand of body horror to the project, Ito got to see Pacific Rim (for free) and sang his heart out with both del Toro and Kojima.

Silent Hills was announced through 2014’s P.T., a short, free PS4 playable teaser that confirmed Kojima was directing a new Silent Hill entry alongside del Toro and starring Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct) in the lead role. Kojima has since left Konami, pursuing game development under his independent studio Kojima Productions, which he founded in 2005 while still under Konami’s umbrella.

Since publicly splitting from Konami in 2015, Kojima has announced the studio’s first game, Death Stranding. “I’m embarking on a new challenge with a fresh slate,” Kojima said of the split. “But I intend to keep pushing the creative envelope until the day I die.”

Rockstar Games Buys India Studio Dhruva Interactive

The oldest video game company in India, Dhruva Interactive, has been purchased by Rockstar Games from Starbreeze Studios for $7.9 million. According to a post on the company’s official website, Dhruva, which was founded by Rajesh Rao in Bangalore in 1997, “was India’s first ever game development studio.” Starting as a five-man team, the company grew to over 300 employees “specializing in every aspect of art and design.” Since then, Dhruva has contributed to a number of high-profile, AAA games, including Arkane Studios’ Prey, Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man, Rare’s Sea of Thieves, SIE Bend Studio’s Days Gone, and many more.

Dhruva will now get folded into Rockstar India, which houses approximately 500 employees “already working in Bangalore on Rockstar’s ground-breaking games.”

“Dhruva Interactive has been a beacon of Indian game development for decades and we are excited to bring them into the Rockstar family,” said Rockstar India’s studio manager Daniel Smith. “The addition of the Dhruva team to the existing talent at Rockstar India will expand the studio’s capabilities and reinforces our belief in and commitment to the local development community.”

Rao, who serves as the company’s CEO, shares Smith’s sentiment and is excited about the acquisition. “Rockstar Games are the undisputed leaders of innovation and creativity in modern game development,” Rao said. “Dhruva Interactive was founded with the aim of creating a world-class game development community in India, and so bringing the Dhruva team under the Rockstar Games label is further proof that we have succeeded in creating a talented team that can contribute to the best games in the world while helping to create a thriving local game developer community in India.”

Prior to the purchase, Dhruva was acquired by Starbreeze in 2016. Starbreeze is most well-known for 2007’s The Darkness, 2013’s Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and Payday 2, and last year’s OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead.

While the sale is “expected to close in the coming weeks,” whatever projects Dhruva is currently working on will remain unchanged and proceed uninterrupted.

Fortnite Update 9.01 Patch Notes Reveal Tactical Assault Rifle, More

Fortnite updates continue to arrive at their usual pace, and the latest patch, v9.01, adds a new weapon and more. The tactical assault rifle was previously leaked, but now we have confirmation it’s real–and we also know just how deadly it is. The update is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile.

The tactical assault rifle is a fully automatic rifle with a 30-round magazine. It can be obtained from floor loot, chests, supply drops, and vending machines in rare, epic, and legendary variants. The gun deals 22/23/24 damage, depending what rarity you’re carrying, and it also carries a headshot multiplier of 1.75. The trade-off of this new gun is that the combat SMG has been vaulted, meaning it is no longer available in-game.

Elsewhere in the update, The Baller has been nerfed. The hamster ball has seen its health cut from 200 to 150, as developer Epic Games says the vehicle “still has a little too much defensive agency.” For more on the Battle Royale changes in update 9.01, take a look at the patch notes below; you can see the full patch notes for Creative and Save the World on Epic’s blog.

Fortnite Season 9 started just recently, introducing new challenges, skins, and more. We also know there’ll be a Fortnite summer block party starting right after E3.

Fortnite: Battle Royale Update 9.01 Patch Notes

Weapons And Items

  • Tactical Assault Rifle
    • Available in Rare, Epic, and Legendary variants.
    • Available from Floor Loot, Chests, Supply Drops, and Vending Machines
      • Fully Automatic
      • 30 Round Magazine
      • Deals 22/23/24 damage
      • Headshot Multiplier of 1.75x
      • This weapon has a tight spread in close quarters but is less effective at long range when compared to other Assault Rifles.
  • Reduced Baller health from 200 to 150
    • The primary goal of the Baller is to provide fun and exciting mobility. We feel that it still has a little too much defensive agency – this change should reduce the effectiveness there while not impacting its strengths.
  • Drum Gun adjustments
    • Reduced base damage from 26/27 to 22/23
      • Since its unvaulting, the Drum Gun effectiveness has been slightly higher than we wanted. This change should reduce its combat effectiveness while still retaining its flavor.
  • Vaulted Compact SMG
    • Due to the recent addition of the Drum Gun and the brand new Tactical Assault Rifle, we wanted to reduce the availability of high rate-of-fire weapons.

Gameplay

  • Slipstream adjustments
    • Slipstreams no longer block building.
      • Trying to build up to get into a Slipstream should be an easy & intuitive experience. We noticed some cases where players would build up to the Slipstream, but due to build restrictions would take a ‘leap of faith’ and not make the jump. This should make getting into a Slipstream easier.
    • Players flying in a Slipstream will destroy player built objects when they collide.
    • Slipstreams are now disabled after storm phase 5.
      • We’ve seen a number of cases where Slipstreams caused issues during late game circles – primarily around getting pulled into the storm unexpectedly. Since the value of Slipstream mobility is limited in those scenarios, we felt it’s better to simply disable them.

Performance

  • Improvements made to level streaming performance on all platforms.
    • This will reduce cases of buildings not loading in.
  • Physics optimizations to improve performance in conduits

New Ghost Recon Breakpoint Trailer Unveils A Global Threat

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which was leaked ahead of its official reveal, was announced during a livestream on May 9. It serves as a direct sequel to 2017’s Wildlands and introduces new stealth and survival elements. We already had some small bits of information, but a new story trailer divulges the game’s narrative in more depth.

The trailer starts at 500 BC, with a voiceover explaining that the “mythical golem” was imagined as a depiction of artificial intelligence meant to serve and protect. The trailer blasts through the last 20 years–beginning at 1995 and concluding with the not-so-far-off future–showcasing various technological advancements such as driverless cars. We then see a silhouette of Jake Skell, who believes that “Skell technology will, quite simply, build the future.” Unfortunately, Skell’s technology goes awry, killing a political candidate and becoming a global threat. Communications with Skell cannot be established, at which point the Ghost Recon skull rips through the screen, indicating that the Ghosts will be sent to investigate the sudden radio silence. You can check out the story trailer below.

In our hands-on with the game, we thought it was both promising and concerning, saying that “Breakpoint is, for better and worse, an attempt to answer Wildlands’ critics.” Despite Breakpoint’s overt messaging, Ubisoft insists the game isn’t making any political statements. Ubisoft’s community developer Laura Cordrey said the company is “always inspired by what’s happening around us, and it’s always our goal to stay authentic … but the story does remain fictional.”

Ubisoft has announced that Breakpoint is skipping Steam in favor of Epic Store exclusivity. While the company confirmed the news to PCGamesN, Ubisoft didn’t disclose a reason for making the online tactical shooter exclusive to the Epic Store–though it may have something to do with the competitive deal Epic offers.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is scheduled to launch on October 4 for PC (through the Epic Store), PS4, and Xbox One. Pre-ordering any edition will net you access to the upcoming beta. Those who go for the Gold, Ultimate, or Collector’s editions will get the game three days early.

PUBG Mobile Update Adds New Feature To Help Promote “Healthy Gaming”

In an effort to help “promote healthy gaming behaviors,” PUBG‘s mobile version has introduced a new “Gameplay Management” system. Designed for people under the age of 18, the new system will send pop-ups to players that remind them to take a break.

Under the terms of the new system, players under the age of 18 are required to “acknowledge a gaming advisory” before they’re able to boot the game. At certain time intervals, which were not mentioned in the press release, pop-up notifications will appear to remind youngsters to “rest or stop the game.”

This new Gameplay Management system is live in Indonesia, India, Nepal, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. It will be released in other markets later, in stages.

According to the developer, PUBG Mobile is among the first mobile games to feature such a system. “As PUBG mobile grows into one of the world’s most trending mobile games, it is devoted to providing a better gaming environment and being proactive in building a balanced and sustainable online gaming ecosystem,” publisher Tencent said.

Tencent executive Vincent Wang said the game wants to allow players to “make informed choices” when it comes to how much time they spend playing PUBG mobile. “Today’s announcement is a proactive step in ensuring that hundreds of millions of players worldwide can continue to enjoy PUBG mobile in a sustainable manner,” Wang said.

Tencent will look into player feedback and make necessary adjustments over time as the system is released globally. The company is also undertaking educational measures to inform players about why they should care about the Gameplay Management system in the first place.

There is no word yet on if the Gameplay Management system will ever be launched for PUBG’s other editions on PC and console.

In other PUBG news, Tencent recently closed the game in China and replaced it with a a strange, patriotic version.
