Path Of Exile Mobile Game Announced With Funny Reveal Trailer

Path of Exile is coming to mobile devices. This morning at ExileCon, Grinding Gear CEO Chris Wilson announced that the popular free-to-play title is coming to smartphones featuring what is described as a fair monetization strategy. Wilson also pointed out that Grinding Gear is developing the title in-house as opposed to shipping it off to a different studio to handle it.

Before you get too excited, however, Wilson cautioned that Path of Exile mobile is only an “experimental” title. Development will continue–or not–based on fan feedback.

Wilson used his keynote address to make a little jab at Blizzard over its own mobile game reveal. He said he’s happy that Grinding Gear announced Path of Exile 2 before revealing Path of Exile Mobile in what was surely a reference to how Blizzard angered fans by announcing Diablo Immortal before Diablo IV.

Disclosure: Grinding Gear Games is paying for GameSpot’s flight and accommodation in Auckland, New Zealand to attend ExileCon.

On November 21, subscribers can log into the Microsoft Store’s website or any Xbox One or Windows 10 device to take advantage of this year’s Black Friday deals. Everyone else will have to wait until November 24. All Black Friday deals are available until December 2.

Black Friday Xbox One deals

For starters, all Xbox One devices are getting discounts of up to $150 off. All Xbox One X console bundles will go for $350, while all Xbox One S bundles will be $100 off, with several of them now costing $200. Thankfully, if you want to be eligible for the early deals on November 21, you can take advantage of a Black Friday offer that’s available to new Game Pass Ultimate subscribers right now. Microsoft is currently offering new subscribers their first three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for only $1. Ultimate bundles Game Pass for console and PC, in addition to Xbox Live Gold. New subscribers will also get six months of Spotify, as long as they’re not already subscribed to the music-streaming service. Xbox All Access returns

Microsoft also recently announced that the Xbox All Access program is back for another holiday season. Anyone who doesn’t want to pay the full price for a console upfront can instead opt for a monthly payment plan. The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition goes for $20/month, the Xbox One S for $23/month, and the powerful Xbox One X for $31/month. Each option runs for 24 months and comes with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for the full duration of the plan.

The best part of this round of All Access is that you’ll have the option to upgrade to Project Scarlett, the new Xbox console that is scheduled to arrive next holiday. Xbox One X All Access members will be eligible to upgrade after 12 months, but Xbox One S members will have to wait 18 months. All-Digital Edition members will also have to pay a $20 upgrade fee.

All upgrades must go through the retailer you purchased your original 24-month plan from, and you’ll have to re-up to a new 24-month plan (with new terms and pricing). In the US, Amazon is currently the only retailer offering All Access–in the UK, customers can subscribe starting November 5 at Smyths and GAME.

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order Black Friday 2019 Deals (PS4, Xbox One)

It’s an exciting time of year for Star Wars fans, with the release of The Mandalorian on Disney Plus and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters this December. To complete the trio, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15. If you’re planning to buy Jedi Fallen Order for yourself or someone on your shopping list this holiday season, you might be looking for discounts on the game this Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Luckily, there are some great Xbox One console bundles planned for Black Friday along with some early discounts on the game itself.

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is one of our top 2019 holiday gift recommendations; it also earned an 8/10 in our Jedi Fallen Order review. “Fallen Order becomes perhaps the strongest conception of what playing as a Jedi Knight ought to really be like,” wrote Phil Hornshaw. “It’s true that Fallen Order borrows liberally from other action games, but those elements work together with Respawn’s combat and environment design, and a story that finds humanity in the Force and in its characters, to hone in on what makes the world of Star Wars worthy of revisiting again and again. Even with some rough edges, Fallen Order represents one of the most compelling game additions to the Star Wars franchise in years.”

Read on for the best Black Friday deals on Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order announced so far.

This Excellent Steam PC Game Is Free To Keep Forever

Steam regularly has free periods where you can play a game all weekend, but you usually have to buy it if you want to keep playing past Sunday. However, this weekend is different, and with Black Friday just around the corner, Steam and publisher Sega are offering free digital copies of Company of Heroes 2 until November 17 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET.

All you have to do to get your free game is go to Company of Heroes 2’s Steam page, add it to your cart, and then checkout as if you were buying the game normally. You won’t be charged, and it’ll still be yours to keep forever. Sega is also discounting much of the game’s DLC, so if you find you enjoy the game, you can pick some of it up at a cheaper price.

GameSpot’s Company of Heroes 2 review scored the real-time strategy game a 7.5/10. “Such multiplayer mayhem recalls the original Company of Heroes’ best moments, and you couldn’t accuse this sequel of reaching the heights of the classic that spawned it,” critic Kevin Van Ord wrote.

“This familiarity is unlikely to breed much contempt, however, given Company of Heroes 2’s consistent level of enjoyment. Its barrage of online and offline skirmishes doesn’t always hit its mark. But when it finds its target, Company of Heroes 2 delivers a loud and mighty payload.”

In related news, Steam is offering a free-play weekend for the tactical FPS, Squad. If you enjoy playing it, you can grab it for 50% off all weekend–$20 USD, $25 CAD, or £16.25. Other games on sale include 2016’s Doom, Watch Dogs 2, and Street Fighter 5, among others.

Path Of Exile 2 Officially Announced At ExileCon

Path of Exile 2 has been officially announced. Revealed at ExileCon in New Zealand today, the sequel is a seven-act game promising numerous updates and improvements over the first game.

Grinding Gear Games founder Chris Wilson said the studio was hesitant to make a full-on sequel because it worried about splitting the community. But Path of Exile’s story was becoming too large already, and the team thought it would be better to make a new game, with new features.

All the game content you might already have for Path of Exile 1–including microtransaction items, expansions, and more–will carry forward to the sequel.

New Mass Effect Game Reportedly In Very Early Development At BioWare Edmonton

Apparently all of those Mass Effect-related tweets this past N7 Day wasn’t just BioWare employees teasing fans. According to a report, the studio is working on a fifth Mass Effect title.

According to Kotaku, BioWare Edmonton–the studio responsible for developing the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series–is “in very early development” on a new Mass Effect game. The project is being led by BioWare project director Mike Gamble–whose previous work includes serving as the producer for Mass Effect: Andromeda and lead producer for Anthem.

This past N7 Day–an annual holiday BioWare holds every November 7 to celebrate Mass Effect–several BioWare tweets hinted that work on a new Mass Effect title had officially begun. “Where do you want Mass Effect to go in the future?” Gamble tweeted, following up that there are still “so many stories yet to tell.” BioWare boss Casey Hudson tweeted that he’s been thinking about “where [BioWare wants] to go next” for Mass Effect and also posted several pieces of previously unreleased Mass Effect concept art–ideas that the studio hadn’t yet “brought to life.”

However, before N7 Day, BioWare was already insisting that more Mass Effect games are on the way. In February 2019, Hudson said that Mass Effect is “very much alive.” Gamble added that “of course” BioWare isn’t finished with Mass Effect.

In celebration of N7 Day 2019, BioWare also added limited-time Mass Effect-themed cosmetics to Anthem, including four new javelin skins, a javelin wrap, and an emote. In the aforementioned Kotaku report, sources at BioWare state that the studio is not yet done with Anthem. Though exact details are still in flux, BioWare wants to completely overhaul Anthem, transforming it into an “Anthem 2.0 or Anthem Next.”

“We spent a few months just tearing [Anthem] down and figuring out what needed to change fundamentally,” one person told Kotaku. “And we’ve been rebuilding for another few months since.”

Watch The ExileCon Keynote Address Right Here; Path Of Exile Expansions And More Expected

ExileCon, the first-ever fan convention dedicated to the free-to-play action RPG Path of Exile, kicks off today, November 16, with a keynote address. Grinding Gear Games founder Chris Wilson will be on hand to speak about the future of the game. Among the expected announcements are new expansions and further details about the game’s 3.9.0 and 4.0.0 updates. Jonathan Rogers, the other founder of Grinding Gear, will also speak at the keynote address.

The briefing will be livestreamed, and you can watch through the embed here beginning at 10 AM NZDT / 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET. GameSpot will have a rundown of the big news as it’s announced.

The ExileCon Day 1 schedule also includes numerous panels dedicated to other parts of Path of Exile, including how the team creates the in-game effects and a deep-dive on what’s announced during the keynote. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

Day 2 will also be a big day, as the creators of the original Diablo–Dave Brevik, Max Schaefer, and Erich Schaefer (who have since left Blizzard)–will be on hand for a special presentation. That should be especially interesting in the wake of the Path of Exile announcements and the reveal of Diablo 4 by Blizzard earlier this month.

You can see the full ExileCon schedule here. If you’re interested in attending, tickets are still on sale, starting at $180 USD.

Path of Exile was initially released on PC in 2013 before coming to Xbox One in 2017 and PS4 earlier this year. The game is free-to-play, supported by microtransactions.

In 2018, Grinding Gear was acquired by Chinese internet giant Tencent. That company also has a controlling interest in Riot Games (League of Legends) and Supercell (Clash of Clans). Tencent also owns 40 percent of Fortnite studio Epic Games and has a 5 percent stake in Activision Blizzard.

Disclosure: Grinding Gear Games is paying for GameSpot’s flight and accommodation in Auckland, New Zealand to attend ExileCon.

Pokemon Go November Community Day: Start Time, Shiny Chimchar, And More

Pokemon Go has quite a few events lined up for the rest of November, including the arrival of a new Legendary Pokemon. Before then, however, Niantic is hosting the game’s latest Community Day. This month’s event takes place this Saturday, November 16, and as usual, it’ll offer players around the world a chance to catch a rare Pokemon and snag a special event-exclusive move.

Typically, every Pokemon Go Community Day only runs for three hours, but the particulars of each event–from what time it starts to what Pokemon you’ll be more likely to find in the wild and other bonuses that will be available–vary month by month. To help get you up to speed on this month’s event, we’ve rounded up all the most important details about Pokemon Go’s November Community Day below.

What Is November’s Featured Pokemon?

Ahead of each Community Day, Niantic designates one “featured” Pokemon that will appear much more often than normal during the event. This month’s featured Pokemon is Chimchar, the Fire-type starter from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Throughout the Community Day, Chimchar will spawn in the wild more often than it normally does. You’ll also have your first chance of encountering a Shiny Chimchar during the event. These will be rare, however, so you’ll need to be persistent if you’re hoping to add a Shiny to your collection.

What Is November’s Special Community Day Move?

Not only does the featured Pokemon appear more often in the wild during a Community Day, it is also able to learn a special event-exclusive move that it couldn’t otherwise learn in Pokemon Go, but only if you can evolve it into its final form by the end of the event. That holds true for November’s Community Day. If you can evolve Chimchar all the way into Infernape up to two hours after the event ends, the Pokemon will automatically learn the powerful Fire-type attack Blast Burn. This applies to any Chimchar you have in your collection, even if you caught it prior to the event, but it will only learn Blast Burn if it evolves during the designated time frame.

What Time Does November’s Community Day Start?

As previously mentioned, each Community Day only runs for three hours, although the event often starts at different times depending on the month. Like last month’s event, November’s Community Day will take place early in the day, from 11 AM to 2 PM local time. That means you’ll have until 4 PM local time to evolve an Infernape and learn Blast Burn.

What Other Bonuses Are Available?

On top of increased Pokemon spawns, Niantic offers a couple of other bonuses during each Community Day as an extra incentive to participate in the event. As usual, any Lure Modules you use during November’s Community Day will last for three hours, rather than their usual 30 minutes. Additionally, Pokemon eggs will hatch at a quarter of the distance they typically require during the event, allowing you to hatch eggs more quickly than normal.

Xbox One’s New Update Introduces Fan Feedback-Driven Features

The latest Xbox One update begins rolling out today, introducing a number of new features and improvements to the console’s functionality. Xbox Action for the Google Assistant is the headlining new feature of the November update, but there are also changes to the way gamertags are displayed, new text filters that make sure you don’t have to read everything angry guys send you after killing them too many times in Gears 5, and improvements to the Mixer viewing experience.

Xbox Action for Google Assistant is available in all countries where the Google Assistant is supported, although only English language options are available right now, with additional language support coming in the future. This new feature allows you to use voice control with your Xbox One from any Google Assistant and Home-enabled smart speakers or devices, including iOS and Android smartphones with the Google Assistant app installed. Much like the Xbox Skill for Alexa, Xbox Action gives you more options when it comes to controlling your Xbox with the power of speech.

No Caption Provided

During E3 earlier this year, Microsoft announced that it would be revamping gamertags across PC, mobile, and Xbox One. As of today, 13 additional worldwide alphabets have been added as part of the latest update, along with a new display option for gamertags on Xbox One. Thanks to a new four-digit suffix, you can also now choose a gamertag name even if it’s already been taken. Xbox will simply add the small suffix to the end to ensure everyone is still unique.

Searching for gamertags has been made easier now, too, with the new “People Search” feature that allows you to find others using partial or non-exact search terms.

In terms of content filtration, the newest update gives you the opportunity to set your own specific level of automated filtration when it comes to receiving text-based messages on Xbox Live. There are four filtration levels to customize–Friendly, Medium, Mature, and Unfiltered–that you can configure by going to Settings > General > Online safety and family > Privacy & online safety > Message safety on your Xbox One. From here, any message that’s beyond your safety setting will be replaced with a [Potentially offensive message hidden] placeholder.

No Caption ProvidedGallery image 1Gallery image 2

The new update also adds some minor improvements for Mixer viewers. Anyone watching content on the streaming platform now has the option to move the Mixer chat to either the left or right side of the screen, or hide it altogether. When one of your subscriptions is within a week of expiration, the subscribe button has also now been updated with a reminder to renew.

For further details, Xbox Wire has information on everything included in this month’s patch.
