Destiny 2 Shadowkeep: How To Get A Free Powerful Engram

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is out now, and players are trying their best to boost their Guardian’s power levels to complete the campaign and get raid-ready. In honor of the release of the new expansion, Bungie is giving players a chance to acquire a free Powerful Engram via the postmaster, providing Guardians–returning and newcomers alike–a leg up on the power grind. Last year, Bungie introduced an exclusive Rewards program for users who have an account with Bungie.net, allowing them the chance for new rewards and special offers from the developer.

To get this Powerful Engram, you’ll need to head over to Bungie’s rewards program page. If you are already signed up with Bungie.net and have your main Destiny 2 account linked, then you can instantly get the Powerful Engram by confirming to get a special reward. However, for new players jumping in for the first time via New Light, you’ll need to advance your starting character after the game’s new introduction, which will allow you to gain the piece of loot from the postmaster in the Tower.

This Powerful Engram is a great opportunity to get some new loot fast. However, for players looking to make a more significant impact on your character’s growth in Shadowkeep’s endgame, it might be better to wait until you reach the soft-cap at 900 Power. From 750 to 900 Power, you’ll acquire a steady flow of loot from the main missions and activities, which makes the power grind mostly relaxed. Once you reach 900, however, better loot is harder to come by. Following the soft-cap, Powerful Engrams are essential when trying to progress past 900. Simply put, you’ll need to ensure that your Powerful Engrams are better spent on your character.

This growth will eventually lead up to Shadowkeep’s massive endgame activity, the new Raid known as the Garden of Salvation. As a return to The Black Garden, you’ll have to finish the campaign and get to at least 890 Power to take on the six-member activity. For players looking for more details on the best ways to get raid-ready, check out our many guides that lay out all the tips and clues on how best to improve your Guardian and be prepared for Shadowkeep’s endgame.

Where Is Xur Today? Destiny 2 Exotic Location, Weapon, Armor (October 4-8)

We’ve finally returned to the moon in Destiny 2 Shadowkeep, and we’re already finding a bunch of new cool gear hidden on the lunar surface. The new expansion includes a few Exotics to chase, including Eriana’s Vow and Deathbringer–but if you’re itching for a new Exotic now, Xur has you covered. The Agent of the Nine is back in the solar system and his inventory has changed, making him worth a visit.

The end of the second year of Destiny 2 means that Xur’s pool of Exotics now includes the non-raid weapons and armor that were available throughout the Annual Pass seasons. If you missed anything from Black Armory, Season of the Drifter, or Season of Opulence, Xur can now provide. Here’s where to find him and what he’s offering.

Where Is Xur?

Head to Nessus to find Xur waiting for you on Calus’s barge. Spawn in at the Watcher’s Grave transmat point and head north, then climb aboard the ship to find Xur hanging out on its left edge.

What Is Xur Selling?

Despite it being his first visit of Shadowkeep, Xur isn’t offering much that will be too exciting to existing players. For his weapon, you can snag Wardcliff Coil, an Exotic rocket launcher that remains a Crucible favorite. What’s probably more of note is the fact that Xur’s Fated Engram, which gives you one Exotic you don’t already have per week, now includes more possibilities. Xur’s inventory has been expanded to include all the random Year Two Exotic drops from the Annual Pass, which means Exotic armor from the Season of Opulence is now available from the expensive engram. If you’re a PC or Xbox One player taking advantage of Cross-Save, you can now potentially get Wavesplitter from the Fated Engram. Xur also carries the Five of Swords challenge card that lets you add modifiers to standard Nightfall Strikes, and if you’re looking to work through Annual Pass content from Year Two, you can also get an Invitation of the Nine bounty from him.

Xur Item Lineup (October 4-8)

  • The Wardcliff Coil (Exotic Pulse Rifle) — 29 Legendary Shards
  • ACD/0 Feedback Fence (Exotic Titan Gauntlets) — 23 Legendary Shards
  • Nezarec’s Sin (Exotic Warlock Helmet) — 23 Legendary Shards
  • The Sixth Coyote (Exotic Hunter Chest Armor) — 23 Legendary Shards

The Wardcliff Coil

The cool thing about The Wardcliff Coil is you barely have to aim it. The rocket launcher fires a volley of rockets, which is great for clearing lots of enemies at once, or for a near-guaranteed smackdown on an opposing Guardian in the Crucible. It also automatically reloads when you pick up ammo for more constant destruction.

ACD/0 Feedback Fence

Titans can grab the ACD/0 Feedback Fence gauntlets, which are very useful if you’re a fighter who favors melee. The gauntlets build up energy as you make melee kills and releases it when you’re hit by a melee attack, resulting in a big explosion around your body.

Nezarec’s Sin

If you’re a Nova Bomb-favoring Warlock, Nezarec’s Sin is a good get. It bumps your ability recharge rate every time you get a Void damage kill, which can create a strong feedback loop when coupled with Void weapons.

  • Mobility: +10

The Sixth Coyote

For Hunters, there’s The Sixth Coyote, a piece of chest armor with a pretty straightforward perk: it gives you a second dodge. Pair it with a melee-centric build to recharge your melee fast with Gambler’s Dodge, or with slow-reloading guns and the instant reloads of Marksman’s Dodge.
