PS4’s MediEvil Remaster Demo Is Out Now On PSN

During Sony’s State of Play presentation, it confirmed that the upcoming MediEvil remaster is getting a demo, and it’s out right now on PS4. A new trailer also debuted, and it showcased more new gameplay, but you might as well experience a bit of the game yourself.

If you missed out on the cult-favorite PS1 original first released in 1998, then the upcoming remaster could be your chance to experience this quirky adventure. It puts you in control of Sir Daniel Fortesque, an undead knight who must attempt to restore peace to the Kingdom of Gallowmere while redeeming himself of his embarrassing untimely death. You can watch the new trailer below.

MediEvil’s remaster has a release date of October 25, 2019, which is just in time for the Halloween season. It’s releasing exclusively on PS4. For more on what PlayStation news Sony had to share during its State of Play stream, check out our coverage below.

PS Plus October 2019 PS4 Games Lineup Revealed During State Of Play

During Sony’s State of Play livestream, plenty of details on new PlayStation 4 games were unveiled, but we also learned which ones will be included in the October 2019 PS Plus free games lineup. You’ll be able to snag the company’s latest baseball game with MLB The Show 19 and catch up on one of PlayStation’s exclusive series with The Last Of Us Remastered.

MLB The Show 19 released this past March and was quite warmly received, earning a 9 in GameSpot’s review. Although Franchise mode lacks any significant innovation, numerous other areas of the game have been improved, both in terms of its single-player content and the action on the field.

The Last of Us Remastered, meanwhile, is the enhanced PS4 re-release of Naughty Dog’s acclaimed PS3 game. It includes not just the Last Behind story DLC, but also some new features. You can read all about it in our Last of Us Remastered review.

The bigger news out of the State of Play involved the game’s sequel; we got both a release date and a new gameplay trailer for The Last Of Us Part II. We saw Ellie back in action, who was trying to track down her friend Dina. We also saw some characters from the original game such as Tommy and most importantly Joel. You can watch the trailer and get all the details in our stories below.

New Last Of Us 2 Story Details Revealed During State Of Play

During the September 2019 State of Play event, Sony and Naughty Dog revealed more details about the story of The Last of Us Part II. Up until now, we knew very little about the sequel’s plot aside from Ellie’s role as the protagonist–and her more violent bent since the events of the first game. We may not know a ton more about the story, but there are some key takeaways from the new trailer, including characters that are still alive in the sequel. You can watch the trailer above.

Possibly the biggest revelation from this new trailer is that Joel is still alive in Part II. This wasn’t a huge question mark with the sequel, as he was in the brief reveal trailer, but some time has passed since the events of the first game. We also see Tommy, Joel’s brother, who played a part in one section of the original game. The beginning of the trailer shows a well-lit settlement, and all signs–including Joel’s and Tommy’s survival–point to at least one area that is relatively safe.

Dina, the girl Ellie kisses in the E3 2018 trailer, is likely Ellie’s previously confirmed NPC companion. We see them on horseback together, apparently on a supply run of some kind. The new trailer hints that something bad might happen to Dina, though through the magic of editing and the theater of the imagination, it’s not certain. We also see Ellie and Dina smoking what appears to be a joint, so it seems their settlement has both electricity and downtime.

These details are small, but they give a better idea of the direction of Part II’s story. The Last of Us first released on PS3 in 2013; if you haven’t played the original and want to catch up before the sequel launches, a remastered version is available on PS4, and it will be free on PS Plus in October. The Last of Us Part II releases on February 21, 2020 on PS4.

The Last Of Us 2 Spans Two Discs On PS4

PlayStation’s State of Play livestream wrapped up with a new look at Naughty Dog’s highly-anticipated The Last of Us Part II, which finally has a definitive February 2020 release date. Following State of Play’s conclusion, a new retail listing claims the action-survival game will be split between two discs.

A Best Buy listing reveals the contents of The Last of Us Part II’s Special Edition, which includes the full game on two discs, a 48-page mini art book, steelbook, avatar set, and a dynamic theme (presumably for the PS4). The whole package retails for $80 USD. It’s likely the Standard Edition of The Last of Us Part II will also be split into two discs.

It was revealed that The Last of Us Part II will launch on February 21 exclusively for PlayStation 4 during the State of Play presentation. With the new gameplay trailer PlayStation unveiled, we learned some interesting details about the game, including how old Joel’s gotten, and more. New Last Of Us 2 Gameplay Trailer Revealed During State Of Play

During September’s State of Play, Sony revealed a new gameplay trailer for The Last of Us Part II, as well as a February release date. In the trailer, we got to see Ellie kill people with almost malicious glee. You can watch it below.

The new footage, which you can watch below, showed Ellie and her companion Dina exploring an infested area full of clickers. However, they both end up getting captured by a mysterious group. It’s implied that Dina is murdered, which inevitably leads to Ellie’s quest for revenge. While we got glimpses of combat and new enemies that Ellie will fight, there was also a focus on exploration via horseback riding.

Aside from gameplay and brief glimpses of story, the biggest reveal was returning character Joel, who somehow looks even more grizzled and old than he did in the first game. Oh, and Joel’s brother Tommy appeared as well.

We’ve seen gameplay of The Last of Us Part II before, and the game looked just as violent then as it does now. Armed with a loadout of firearms that’s similar to The Last of Us’ protagonist Joel, Ellie proves to be just as talented a fighter and survivor as her adoptive father-figure. She doesn’t hesitate when it comes to cutting a man’s throat or leaving an ax buried in his skull, for example, and she’s willing to go through the excruciating pain of pulling a lodged arrow out of her shoulder so that she can move around more easily.

During the State of Play, Sony also announced a release date for The Last of Us Part II: February 21, 2020. The game is scheduled to launch as a PS4 exclusive, though–with rumors of the PS5 already circulating–a next-generation version may not be off the table just yet.

Last Of Us 2 Release Date Set For February 2020 On PS4

During the company’s latest State of Play presentation, Sony announced the release date for The Last of Us Part II via a new trailer, which you can watch above. The game is scheduled to release for PS4 on February 21, 2020.

Prior to the presentation, Sony had remained rather quiet on the PS4 exclusive. The company first surprised the world with the reveal of The Last of Us Part II in late 2016, before releasing a new gore-filled trailer for the game in 2017 and then showing off the title’s brutal-looking gameplay in another trailer during E3 2018. However, there hasn’t been much in regards to the game in 2019. Until today.

Gameplay-wise, The Last of Us Part II looks exceptionally violent–and we love it. Though we’ve seen sweet moments in the game too, like a grown Ellie kissing her crush and being terrified at the prospect of dancing with her and exploring their connection, The Last of Us Part II is clearly leaning into the worst aspects of what survival might look like in a post-apocalyptic world. We’ve seen Ellie slit the throat of a man for just being in her way, painfully pulling out an arrow lodged into her shoulder, and sinking an ax into an enemy’s skull with a bloody crunch.

The Last of Us Part II looks a bit more action-oriented than its predecessor. Ellie is equipped with a loadout of weapons that’s similar to what Joel carried on him in The Last of Us, but Ellie finds herself in more open-ended spaces that present more options in how to dispatch a group of enemies. You can shimmy beneath a vehicle to sneak past a guard, attract enemies to certain locations to ambush them, tumble over obstacles to get behind cover more quickly, and slip between narrow hallways in the environment to escape larger foes.

Modern Warfare Spec Ops Survival Mode Will Be Exclusive To PS4 For A Very Long Time

During the September State of Play, PlayStation announced that Survival Mode–one of the multiplayer modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare–would be coming to the PS4 version of the game first. The mode will be coming to the Xbox One and PC version of the game as well at a much later date.

“Just the Survival mode within the Spec Ops mode,” a game representative told GameSpot in regards to what’s a limited-time exclusive for PS4. “Everyone gets campaign, multiplayer and Spec Ops.” According to the small, tiny text in a shot during the trailer–embedded below–you can see that Survival Mode will be exclusive to PS4 for nearly an entire year before coming to Xbox One and PC.

For those unfamiliar, Spec Ops is a traditional part of the Modern Warfare series. A cooperative game mode, this entry of Spec Ops–according to Activision– will include “all-new” and “strategic” missions that can be played by anyone with anyone, regardless of your team respective skill level. Spec Ops is also expected to tie into the story in some way, though neither Activision or Infinity Ward have revealed how yet.

During the presentation, PlayStation released the story trailer for Modern Warfare as well–which leaked mere moments before the State of Play started. The trailer depicts the central conflict of Modern Warfare’s campaign, which aims to tell a realistic story about the horrors of modern-day war, including chemical weapons, political unrest, and unwelcome interference from foreign countries.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 25. Though Spec Ops may be coming to PS4 first, Activision previously announced that–unlike recent Call of Duty games–that most of Modern Warfare’s DLC will launch simultaneously on all platforms, not on PS4 first and the other systems later. Activision has also teased that PS4 players will “have an exciting day one advantage” but hasn’t confirmed what that might be. Having heard about Spec Ops, it’s possible that the day one advantage is early access to the mode, but we’ll have to wait for an official confirmation to be sure.

The PS4 Pro is white and black with oil-stained handprints on the top. The DualShock 4 controller is translucent yellow–yes, it kinda looks like pee, but I’m guessing it’s based on the amniotic fluid found in Death Stranding’s BB pod. It also has the words “Death Stranding” printed on the touchpad.

The State of Play brought us a release date for The Last of Us Part II: February 21, 2020. The accompanying trailer showed plenty of new footage, including our first look at the previous game’s protagonist, Joel. In Part II, players take control of Ellie on her own journey–the trailer gave us a nice, close look at a new clicker and plenty of naughty humans you’ll probably have to kill at some point.

We also got new game announcements from Tetris Effect developer Enhance and Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi. A new story trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was shown, in addition to the announcement that Modern Warfare’s Spec Ops mode will come to PS4 first. On top of that, we learned Civilization 6 is coming to PS4 and Xbox One in November.

Civilization VI is coming to new platforms this year. The PS4 and Xbox One release of Civ VI also comes with the following four additional content packs:

Civ VI was originally released in 2016 on PC, with a Nintendo Switch version following two years later. The game was well received on its initial release. GameSpot awarded it a 9/10 in our original Civilization VI review. Critic Scott Butterworth wrote:

“Civ 6 has a few rough edges, but they’re pushed far into the periphery by spectacular strategic depth and intricate interlocking nuances. Any frustrations I experienced were immediately eclipsed by my desire to continue playing. Just one more turn, every turn, forever.”
