Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake Dungeon-Maker Mode And Release Date Revealed At E3 2019

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake that was announced earlier this year was featured in Nintendo’s E3 2019 briefing today. Nintendo had a pair of big announcements to make, including the reveal of a new mode and the game’s release date.

The new mode is a dungeon-creator that looks and sounds pretty excellent. As its name suggests, the mode allows players to create their own, custom-made dungeons by placing chambers earned in the adventure mode. Once created, players can explore the dungeons. Conquering the various chambers will yield various rewards, Nintendo said.

As for the release date, Nintendo announced that Link’s Awakening will launch on September 20.

Link’s Awakening was originally released for the Game Boy all the way back in 1993. The new remake is the second major update to the title, following 1998’s Link’s Awakening DX, which was released for the Game Boy Color and featured color graphics and other new features.

Unlike most other games in the series, it isn’t set in Hyrule, but rather the mysterious Koholint Island. After being shipwrecked, Link washes ashore the island and can only escape by retrieving eight magical instruments and waking the isle’s guardian, the Wind Fish.

E3 2019: The Witcher 3 Is Coming To Nintendo Switch

Confirming rumors, Nintendo revealed during its E3 2019 broadcast that CD Projekt Red’s acclaimed role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to Nintendo Switch. It’s the Complete Edition heading to Switch, and this features the game’s two substantial expansions–Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

In terms of a release date, Nintendo confirmed that The Witcher 3 will be available on Switch sometime later this year.

The Witcher 3 was celebrated upon its initial release in 2015 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, so Switch owners are getting something special to play at home or on the go. With its mature content, The Witcher 3 is not exactly a natural fit with the Switch’s younger-skewing, family-friendly audience, but it’s not the first mature-themed game for Switch. The console also has M-rated titles available such as Skyrim, Bayonetta 2, Doom, and L.A. Noire.

CD Projekt Red’s next game is Cyberpunk 2077, which launches on April 16, 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The title hasn’t been announced for Switch, though if The Witcher 3 does well on Nintendo’s console that could–in theory at least–lead CD Projekt Red to at least consider bringing the title to Switch if it is technically possible.

E3 2019: New Luigi’s Mansion 3 Gameplay For Nintendo Switch

During the Nintendo E3 2019 Direct today, the company gave us a closer look at the upcoming Luigi’s Mansion sequel, Luigi’s Mansion 3 for the Nintendo Switch. The series gives Luigi his rightful time in the spotlight as he deals with the terrifying, real-world problems his famous brother just doesn’t have the guts to handle: ghosts, and lots of them.

The demo Nintendo showed set up the premise of the game, and we saw Luigi invited to a gorgeous hotel with Mario, Peach, and others. Naturally, the hotel is more than meets the eye and things take a very spooky turn–surprise, it’s ghosts. And they’re mad.

Luigi dons his trusty Poltergust vacuum cleaner and we see him use this familiar strobe ability to stun ghosts, but we also get a peek at some new techniques. Luigi can now slam enemies to cause area-of-effect damage, a suction shot that allows you to destroy furniture, and a burst shot that lets you create some breathing room by pushing ghosts away.

Professor E. Gadd makes a return, as does Gooigi, Luigi’s aptly named goopy doppelganger from the 3DS remake of the original game. Gooigi can be summoned and controlled to solve puzzles–expect things like slipping through bars, walking on spikes, and dying as soon as he touches water.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 will also feature an online and local cooperative multiplayer mode called “ScareScraper”, which will see you defeating ghosts, racing to find toads, facing new challenges and clearing floors. Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be available sometime in 2019.

Dragon Quest XI Definitive Edition Release Date For Switch Announced At E3 2019

Following a new trailer that aired during the Square Enix E3 2019 press conference, Nintendo and Square Enix have confirmed a release date for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch. The game will release on September 27. Previously, Square Enix had only confirmed a generic “Fall 2019” release window.

As announced previously, the Definitive Edition features all the content from the original, along with even more character-specific stories. It also includes orchestral music for battle scenes and other key moments, while one of the other defining features is how you can toggle between high-definition and 16-bit visuals. The game also comes with Japanese and English voice tracks, so you have a number of options to play the way you want to.

Dragon Quest XI Definitive Edition was first announced for Nintendo Switch during a Nintendo Direct briefing back in February.

E3 2019: New Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Character Is Dragon Quest’s Heroes

Per tradition, Nintendo has opted out of hosting an E3 livestream press conference for a prerecorded Direct. During its E3 show, Nintendo finally revealed the newest character to join the roster for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, coming in Summer 2019.

As speculated by plenty of people, Dragon Quest’s protagonist is the next DLC fighter. Simply named Hero, the new Smash fighter leapt to the rescue of Link in a brand-new cinematic reveal trailer, cutting down both Meta Knight and Marth in a single strike. In Ultimate, Hero fights with his usual assortment of weapons and abilities. He relies on his sword and shield for his standard attacks and defense, and turns to using magic fireballs, whirlwinds, and Slime for his special moves.

In the trailer, we see Hero joined by the other Hero protagonists from follow-up Dragon Quest games–specifically Dragon Quest 11, 10, 4, and 3. Nintendo confirmed that Hero can “take the form” of each of these protagonists, presumably via alternate costumes.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the largest title in the franchise to date, including dozens of characters from some of gaming’s most notable series–and not all of them Nintendo. Since Ultimate launched, Nintendo has released additional DLC fighters to further flesh out the already massive roster. The first was Piranha Plant, one of Mario’s most memorable enemies. It was followed up with Joker, the main protagonist of Persona 5. Dragon Quest’s Hero will be the third of the six DLC fighters scheduled for the game.

In our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate review, Edmond Tran wrote, “An inconsistent online mode and situational downers don’t stop Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from shining as a flexible multiplayer game that can be as freewheeling or as firm as you want it to be. Its entertaining single-player content helps keep the game rich with interesting things to do, as well as bolstering its spirit of loving homage to the games that have graced Nintendo consoles. Ultimate’s diverse content is compelling, its strong mechanics are refined, and the encompassing collection is simply superb.”

E3 2019: The Division 2’s New Expeditions Feature Explained

During Ubisoft’s press conference at E3 2019, Massive Entertainment shed some light on The Division 2’s year-one DLC roadmap. We now know the first year of free content updates will include a series of three-story episodes that will see you venture outside of Washington DC, with the third and final episode even taking you back to New York City, the setting for the first game.

Episode one is titled DC Outskirts – Expeditions, and a post on The Division 2’s official website has now detailed what the new Expeditions will feature and what exactly they entails.

Expeditions are free events that let players travel to unexplored locations to discover new narrative and gameplay opportunities. These are different from the episode’s new story missions set in Manning National Zoo and Camp White Oak, which is a tad convoluted but might speak to the breadth of content available in each episode. A full Expedition site–like the overgrown Kenly College–consists of three locations, each one having a specific theme and tone. As you complete one location, another will open up, with a treasure room full of rewards waiting for you once you’ve completed all three.

Massive Entertainment says each site will offer unique content and lore not found anywhere else, and it sounds like this DLC will expand upon The Division 2’s base gameplay mechanics, with environmental puzzles and unique boss mechanics to contend with. There’s an emphasis on exploration, too, as hidden secrets are waiting to be discovered by those who veer off the beaten path.

Once you’ve completed a full Expedition site, there’s an additional challenge layer called The Mastery System. This optional system introduces tailor-made challenges to each location, with players awarded a bronze, silver, or gold rating based on their performance in completing these optional challenges. The higher your rank, the more rewards you gain. This is graded on an individual level, as opposed to groups, so there’s a competitive element to progression as the quality of the payout is a direct result of your efforts.

On the face of it, the first episode of The Division 2’s DLC seems to be playing to the base game’s strengths, offering new locations to explore and exciting ways to unlock more of that sweet, sweet loot.

DC Outskirts – Expeditions is due out in July. Ubisoft will also be opening a Division 2 free trial starting June 13, and the game will be on sale through June 24. If you participate in the free weekend and then purchase the full game you’ll keep your progression.

E3 2019: Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch Remastered Announced

Following a leak, Bandai Namco has officially announced a remastered version of Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, coming to PC and PlayStation 4 on September 20. In addition, the original game is coming to Nintendo Switch the same day.

This remastered edition will feature 1080p resolution at 60fps on PlayStation 4, while Pro users can bump that up to 4K/30fps or 1440p/60fps. The Nintendo Switch version runs at 720p/30fps but is the first handheld iteration of the game.

Ni No Kuni tells the story of a young boy named Oliver who travels to a magical land in hopes of bringing back his departed mother. The combat is somewhat similar to Pokemon, with a variety of strange creatures to recruit and add to your party. It was followed by Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, which switched up the combat system but retained the same painterly art style.

“Ni no Kuni is a stupendous game because there’s so much to do in it, and because all of it is just so good,” Kevin VanOrd wrote in GameSpot’s review. “The hallmark of the greatest RPGs is that you don’t want to stop playing them, and Ni no Kuni proudly joins that elite group of games providing such an enticing world that you can’t imagine never having visited it. The only problem, of course, is that you may never want to leave.”

E3 2019: PES 2020 Announced, Release Date Confirmed For PS4, Xbox One, PC

Konami has revealed this year’s soccer sim, and it has a new naming convention. It’s officially titled eFootball: PES 2020, and it’s coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 10.

This year’s game will feature a revamped Master League, Konami says, “headlined by a powerful new interactive dialogue system that puts the reins firmly in players hands when it comes to controlling story progression.” The publisher also says transfer fees and salaries will be more realistic. Master League will allow you to create your own manager avatar–or use one of “several legendary managers,” such as Johan Cruyff or Diego Maradona.

PES 2020 will also contain a new mode named Matchday, which contains weekly events where each real-world player picks one of two teams and each match you play contributes to your team’s cumulative score. At the end of the season, the best performing user from each team will face off to decide the overall winner.

Konami lists further gameplay improvements as “upgraded trapping mechanics and new techniques; context-sensitive kick accuracy; more realistic defense and the addition of the intentional foul; an adaptive player interaction system that recreates player personalities on the pitch; and much more.” Visually, there will be a new camera option, improved player models, an enhanced lighting engine, and more realistic cutscenes and replays.

Lionel Messi will be on the game’s standard cover, while Ronaldinho is the cover star of the Legend Edition. The club both players are most readily associated with, Barcelona, is once again officially licensed in this year’s PES. The club and Konami have signed a new “multi-year global partnership,” the publisher has said, which once again keeps Barcelona and its Camp Nou stadium exclusive to PES.

PES’s main rival, FIFA, saw its new edition revealed at E3 2019 as well. FIFA 20’s release date also falls in September, around two weeks after PES’s. The game includes a FIFA Street-like Volta Mode, but that won’t be on the Switch version, which doesn’t come with “any of the big new features.”
