Play Star Citizen Free Right Now, Here’s How

The ambitious PC space sim Star Citizen has announced its next “Free Fly” event during which people can play the game for free for a set period of time. The Free Fly promotion runs October 28 through November 3, so you can get started right now.

The Star Citizen Alpha 3.7 “Into the Depths” patch is included with the Free Fly event. This update added a new cave system that players can try out to gather resources. Players can then sell these resources for currency to spend on new ships and more.

Five ships are included in the new Free Fly event, while developer Cloud Imperium Games is holding a special sale where players can get started for $40 after the free event. This pledge level gives players a “starter ship, a game package, 3 months of ship insurance, and 1,000 UEC.” Go to the Star Citizen website to learn more about the Free Fly event.

The five ships included with the Free Fly event include (descriptions written by the developer):

  • Consolidated Outland Mustang Alpha – Consolidated Outland’s ship for those wanting to push the limits a little more when starting out, the Mustang has good maneuverability and some space for cargo.
  • Banu Defender – a multi-crew fighter whose patchwork design features both Xi’an thrusters, Tevarin shields, and four Singe tachyon cannons. Though cargo space is limited, the Defender features modest accommodations for its crew and provides easy access to components.
  • Roberts Space Industries Aurora MR – A balance of function and performance, the Aurora MR comes with cargo capacity and guns to ensure freight gets there safely.
  • Drake Cutlass Black – Drake’s multicrew Cutlass is highly versatile, with combat and cargo prowess.
  • Avenger Titan – A former police ship with a cargo hold for light freight and courier abilities.

Star Citizen has brought in more than $239.5 million in crowdfunding since 2012, making it the most successful crowdfunded game in history.

Cloud Imerpium Games also announced some new Star Citizen statistics for the calendar year 2019 so far. Through October, people have spent around 559 million minutes in the game, which works out to 1,064 years of total combined playtime. The RSI Aurora was the most popular ship, while the United States ranked first in the highest number of unique players.

You can get more details on these statistics and others in the infographic below.

Battlefield 5’s Big Pacific Theater Update Releases This Week, Full Patch Notes Listed

The full patch notes for the latest free update for Battlefield V have been released, and there’s a lot there. Update 5.0 adds two new maps, new factions, new weapons, and vehicles to the game, all of which are tied to the Pacific Theater of World War II.

Starting October 31, the War in The Pacific comes to Battlefield V with two new maps: Pacific Storm and Iwo Jima. On both maps, you’ll be able to play as one of the two new factions: the United States and Japan. The change in scenery adds new weapons and vehicles too. For the former, you’ll gain access to the M1 Garand, Type 99 Arisaka, Type 100, and the M1919A6. In terms of vehicles, War in The Pacific adds the M4 Sherman tank, Type 97 transport vehicle, the LVT and the Ka-Mi Light Amphibious Tanks, the Dinghy, LCPV, MB Jeep, and Type 95 transport vehicle.

Update 5.0 also implements dozens of gameplay changes and bug fixes–way too many to list every single one here. We’ve compiled all of the major ones below; you can read through the whole patch notes in the link above.

In GameSpot’s Battlefield V review, Michael Higham wrote, “Conquest and the map roster don’t mesh well together, however, Grand Operations–and the other modes within it–steal the show and foster some of the greatest moments the franchise has offered. You might be surprised by the impact of the slight changes made for this entry, especially when you’re deep into pushing or defending objectives in Frontlines alongside teammates fulfilling their roles. That’s when Battlefield V is at its best.”

Battlefield V Update 5.0 Patch Notes

War in The Pacific

  • Two New Maps – Pacific Storm and Iwo Jima.
  • Four New Weapons at launch – M1 Garand, Type 99 Arisaka, Type 100, and the M1919A6.
  • Deploying across the Tides of War, you’ll get your hands on the M3 Grease Gun, Nambu Type 2A, Type 97 LMG, and M1918 A2.
  • As Chapter Rewards, the Jungle Carbine and the Type 94 and Model 27 sidearms are also available for you to earn and unlock during War in The Pacific
  • New Factions: US and Japan.
  • New Battle Pickups: Katana and M2 Flamethrower.
  • New Vehicles: M4 Sherman tank, Type 97, the LVT and the Ka-Mi Light Amphibious Tanks, the Dinghy, LCPV, MB Jeep and Type 95 transport vehicle.
  • New Planes – the F4U Corsair (Fighter and Bomber variants), and the Japanese Zero (fighter and bomber variants).
  • New Reinforcements – New Rocket Barrage Tanks – The Sherman Calliope, and the HaChi.

Weapons

  • Players are now able to inspect their primary and secondary weapons directly while playing. Simply hold down the commorose button, and press the reload button to take a look.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the smoke grenade’s visual effect to flicker.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause players to sometimes use their primary weapons as syringes during the revive animation.
  • RSC – Fixed an issue that would result in a visual problem when reloading the weapons with some specific soldier skins.
  • M1928A1 – The weapons shadow no longer looks like it has a fore-grip.
  • Fixed an uncommon bug which made it look like soldiers used an ammo pouch to gain health back, or used a health pouch to gain ammo.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause the grenade launcher on the Tromboncino to be unusable if the weapon was dropped and then picked back up.
  • Flaregun Radius and TTL re-balance: Flares last longer in general, and vehicle flares cover larger areas.
  • Fixed a bug that would enable the Panzerbüchse 39 to fire multiple times in a row.
  • Fixed a bug with the ricochet tracer visual effect which made it look like it was going in the opposite direction of its original trajectory.
  • Fixed an issue where healing rates could stack between self-heal pouch and medical crate (only the highest rate will now apply).
  • Increased medical crate aura regeneration rate to 16HP/s from 12HP/s as a result of healing rates no longer stacking.
  • Improved detection of fire damage against soldiers. This will reduce situations where players can take fire damage while not being visibly close enough from the fire.
  • Increased incendiary grenade radius to 4.5m from 4m to better match the effect.
  • Increased the Incendiary grenade damage duration to 7s from 6.5s to better match the effect.
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the health and ammo crates to be deployed below the ground when deployed whilst prone.

Soldier

  • Fixed an issue that would cause players to slowly glide across the terrain whilst waiting to start a round.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause players to be seen playing the swimming animations whilst on the ground.
  • Fixed an issue where players could often be seen with low animation quality in high-density areas.
  • Fixed an issue where it would sometimes be possible to collide with soldiers that are dead.
  • Soldier collision is now disabled as soon as the player dies, this means it will now be possible to move through players faster which will prevent cases where you can get blocked by a soldier you just killed.
  • Improvements to the bleed out state that should decrease the chance of players getting stuck in a bleed-out state.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the soldier to clip with the camera when opening a door while switching weapons.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause an infinite death state if a player was roadkilled right after being revived.
  • Fixed a bug that would not trigger the temporary slow down penalty after using the bayonet charge.
  • Fixed an issue where players would be able to jump whilst charging.
  • Holding down the melee button no longer blocks the sprint and jump input.
  • Improved the vaulting animation when players are using the Revolver.
  • Fixed an issue where a soldier would sometimes get blocked whilst vaulting over medium-sized obstacles.
  • Players are no longer blocked from throwing health and ammo pouches while at the same time firing a weapon at full auto. The firing will now correctly pause to throw a pouch.
  • Improvements to players that die while using a parachute – the sound will no longer cutoff if the player redeploys while parachuting, and we have removed the body falling sound effect if the player is in the air.
  • Improved soldier ragdoll behavior to decrease the risk of them getting the “hanging from the hips” bug.
  • Fixed an issue where soldiers could get stuck against collision with hard-edged assets, like for example the edge of a bridge railing.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause the revived players to be in T pose when the reviver cancels the revive animation.
  • Fixed an animation bug that could sometimes cause certain soldiers to be seen moving around in T pose.
  • Fixed an exploit that would allow medics to endlessly throw medical pouches at each other.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to deploy the bipod on shallow water.
  • Improved activation consistency of the sliding functionality.
  • Added support to choose between press or double-tap to activate sliding (default is double-tap).
  • Increased Sliding cool down to 2s from 1.5s.
  • Fixed an issue where soldiers teleport to an old position when exiting a vehicle.
  • Fixed an issue where a soldier could vault through ceilings above stairs on Operation Underground.
  • Players in shallow water can be revived now.
  • Players can no longer get revived while in mid-air, which would cause players to end up under the terrain in some rare cases.

Vehicles

  • JU-88 bottom gunner now properly shows hitmarkers when doing damage.
  • Fixed a rare bug that would cause players to spawn into the world without a plane, after they had selected a plane from the deploy screen to spawn into.
  • Fixed a graphical bug that could occur if players sat in the top gunner seat in the Sturmgeschutz IV tank while firing it.
  • The Churchill MK VII top gunner turret no longer looks broken if the player uses the cover function from certain directions.
  • Improved the animation from third person when a player switches seats in an airplane.
  • Mounted and Coaxial Machine Guns have had a significant redesign. These weapons how have a converging accuracy model, with an initial period of inaccuracy that improves with shooting until the weapon is fully accurate. The accuracy potential of all these machine guns is higher now than it was previously, but only after firing a few rounds. Overheat has also been adjusted to balance with this new technique, allowing for more forgiving instances of overheat, especially when firing in long, suppressive bursts. Additionally, the velocity of rounds fired from the machine guns have been increased, making hitting targets of opportunity and moving targets easier, however the damage of these weapons has been reduced at long range, to prevent overly effective instances of sniping with the MG. You should now find MGs easier to use and hit targets once they are zeroed in, but targets at long range will have more time to react before they are killed outright.
  • Reduced the rate of fire for bomb loads of 4 or more. The high rate of fire of these bomb loads allowed a player to drop all their bombs effectively in one area, negating accuracy and making the choice between different bomb types poor. In general, there is a longer delay between bomb drops but bombs generally have more effective blast radius, especially against infantry.
  • Increased the default turret speeds and adjusted the acceleration and deceleration curves to be more responsive.
  • Reduced the impact of disabled turrets on the speed of the turret.
  • Improved the accuracy of the bomb sight in both First and Third person cameras. The biggest improvement is in the First Person View.
  • Holding the fire button while dropping multiple bombs will now update the target position for each bomb dropped.
  • Refactored Ammo Counts for vehicles with unlimited magazines so they show the ammo count instead of the total ammo. This fixes stationary AT guns showing 0 ammo when they actually have unlimited ammo.
  • Reduced the overheat and adjusted the explosive damage of the AA for consistent hit damage against bombers and fighters. Players should now get consistent damage against all aircraft types, and AA can now destroy an aircraft flying directly at the AA without overheating. Aircraft will need to be crafty and dodge and evade the more stationary AA, rather than simply absorbing the damage as they could do previously.
  • Increased shockwave time so that planes have a larger chance to escape the shockwave of low dropped bombs.
  • Fixed an exploit that would cause the Bleinheim passenger guns to not overheat.
  • Fixed a visual bug with the Mosquito 6PDR guns reload.
  • Improved the Kubelwagens steering animation and touched up the handling.
  • Tank turret aiming when using the chase camera (3p) has been redesigned.
    • The turret should now attempt to aim directly where you are looking.
    • The UI should now accurately reflect where the weapon is aiming.
    • If the weapon cannot physically shoot where you are aiming (because of objects in the environment etc), the UI should clearly reflect this.
    • 1p and zoomed aiming is not affected by these changes.

BlizzCon 2019 Schedule: Opening Ceremony Start Time, Livestream Details

Blizzard has announced its schedule for BlizzCon, which is set to take place this weekend, starting on November 1. Though the schedule doesn’t give specific announcements, it does give insight as to when to tune in for the possibility of news and announcements.

The festivities will kick off as usual with the opening ceremony on November 1 at 11 AM PT, which will be simulcast across all of its stages. Traditionally the opening ceremony is where the company outlines the broad strokes of its announcements, with individual panels throughout the weekend taking more of a deep dive.

Some of those game-centric panels include a Heroes of the Storm update at 3:15 PM PT, a Hearthstone update at 5:15 PM PT. The next day, November 2, includes a World of Warcraft update at 11:15 AM PT, and an Overwatch update at 1:15 PM PT. There is no Diablo update listed throughout the weekend, but there are two art panels scheduled for 10:30 AM and 4:15 PM, respectively, on November 2.

Rumors have circulated that this year’s BlizzCon will include Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2, which would likely lead the announcements in the opening ceremonies if they pan out. None of that is confirmed, however.

BlizzCon Highlights – November 1 (PT)

  • Opening Ceremony – 11 AM
  • Quarter Century of Warcraft Audio – 12:30 PM
  • Life at Blizzard: Career, Culture, and Insights – 2 PM
  • Heroes of the Storm Update – 3:15 PM
  • Blizzard Animation: The Art of Setting the Scene – 4:15 PM
  • Hearthstone Update – 5:15 PM

BlizzCon Highlights – November 2 (PT)

  • Artists at Work: Diablo – 10:30 AM
  • World of Warcraft Update – 11:15 AM
  • Artists at Work: Overwatch – 12:00 PM
  • Overwatch Update – 1:15 PM
  • Warcraft 3: Reforged Update – 3:15 PM
  • Closing Entertainment – 7:30 PM

The opening ceremony is usually streamed live for free to everyone, but most of the other events are locked behind the Virtual Ticket. This year the Virtual Ticket costs $50 and comes with bonus cosmetic items for each of Blizzard’s big games. That includes special skins for WoW, a cardback for Hearthstone, and for the first time, skins that reference Warcraft in Overwatch.

The community is also watching especially closely this year as Blizzard may attempt to respond to recent controversial moves. After last year’s event faced criticism after the announcement of Diablo Immortal, this year the company banned a player for expressing support for Honk Kong protesters. That has resulted in a renewed backlash against the company, with a protest planned for the event. It will remain to be seen if Blizzard officially addresses the controversy in its panels.

A “More Radical And Immersive” Version Of Ghost Recon Breakpoint Is Coming

Following Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint’s “very disappointing” sales, Ubisoft has officially detailed some plans to bring the looter-shooter into a more stable form of play, confirming it has “a lot of work” to do.

Ubisoft said its vision for Ghost Recon Breakpoint is to provide players with “a gritty and authentic military experience.” To do this, the company is working on “a more radical and immersive version” of the looter-shooter that will allow you to “tailor your experience.” There’s nothing set in stone on this front, but Ubisoft said it will “keep [players] updated as we progress.”

The first order of business revolves around technical issues. Ubisoft is aware of the numerous bugs and glitches players have encountered since Ghost Recon Breakpoint launched on October 4 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. And as such, the company is preparing to release two separate updates for the looter-shooter in November that will “[focus] on the most pressing issues.” These include fixing Drone deployment, changing the fire rate, addressing night vision googles blocking crosshairs, and patching the Mission Completion notification pop-up.

Though the company hasn’t provided any definitive release dates for the game’s post-launch content, Ubisoft is “dedicated to supporting Ghost Recon Breakpoint in the long term with plenty of post-launch content and special events to keep the world constantly growing and evolving.” This includes December’s Project Titan raid and the Terminator live event, which launches sometime following the raid.

No Caption Provided

Ubisoft is also making changes to Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s in-game economy, stating that adjustments are being made to ensure “the experience for players [is] more comfortable.” Ubisoft hasn’t specified what these changes are or when these changes will be implemented.

Elsewhere in the blog, Ubisoft has once again confirmed that AI teammates will make a return in Ghost Recon Breakpoint. With some of the other plans taking precedent, the company admitted that “adding back AI Teammates to the game is a major undertaking that will still require time.” No release date has been given for when AI teammates will appear.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint has received a fairly lukewarm reception since its launch earlier this month. Alongside a myriad of critics who scored the game lower on the scale, we gave the looter-shooter a 4/10, saying, “It’s essentially every Ubisoft open-world game rolled into one, failing to excel in any one area or establish its own identity. Breakpoint is a messy, confused game and a ghost of the series’ former self.”

Amazon’s Buy 2, Get 1 Free Deal On Games Is Back (PS4, Switch, Xbox One)

In this week’s sale, Amazon is doing what it does best: copying another store’s offer and making it even better. There’s a huge buy two, get one free sale available right now at Target, and you can find the same offer at Amazon, albeit with different product options. Target’s B2G1 sale focuses mainly on books, movies, music, toys, and board games, while Amazon’s sale has way more to offer on the video game side of things. Both are worth checking out, depending on your interests, but the game deals, in particular, are worth browsing.

First off, we should note that Amazon’s offer page for this particular sale is misleading. The top of the page explains the limited-time offer as “buy 3 items, get 1 item free,” but what it means is that when you add three items to your cart, one of them will be free. In checkout, you’ll see the cost of the lowest-priced item subtracted from your overall order. So, for example, if you buy three $60 games, you’ll save $60 on the overall order, but if you buy two $60 games and one $40 game, you’ll save $40. With that in mind, choose your bundle wisely.

Amazon’s sale includes brand-new releases like The Outer Worlds and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, both of which are full-priced at $60. Madden NFL 20 is available as well and on sale for $45.68. Some of the best games released earlier this year are up for grabs too–don’t miss out on A Plague Tale: Innocence for $39.82, Resident Evil 2 for $35.55, and Devil May Cry 5 for $35.93. Catherine: Full Body, the enhanced PS4 port of the popular 2011 game, is on sale for $46, and the launch edition comes with a gorgeous steelbook case.

While this sale will likely run all week (based on Target’s schedule), these B2G1 sales have a way of selling out the best deals quickly, so don’t wait if you’ve been eyeing any of these games. You can check out the full offering of games in this sale at Amazon and see some of our picks from the sale below.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 Review Roundup – Here’s What The Critics Think

With Halloween approaching, Mario’s lanky, timid brother is gearing up to embark on another spooky adventure in Luigi’s Mansion 3. The Nintendo Switch exclusive launches on October 31 and, ahead of its release, critics have begun publishing reviews online. We’ve compiled some here to help you make sense of Luigi’s latest paranormal escapade.

Instead of a mansion as the title suggests, Luigi checks into the luxurious Last Resort hotel, where some very eerie and very odd things start happening. The experience thrusts Luigi into a frightening adventure to free his friends and capture King Boo once again.

Also in time for the Halloween spirit, Nintendo has unveiled a terrifying Gooigi mask. It’s simple to acquire and easy to put together, giving you the full experience of Luigi’s gooey clone from Luigi’s Mansion 3. Further, Luigi made an appearance in another Nintendo Switch title–Tetris 99. And if you want even more Luigi, he is finally playable in Mario Kart Tour, alongside other new additions like King Boo and Waluigi.

  • Game: Luigi’s Mansion 3
  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch
  • Developer: Next Level Games
  • Release date: October 31
  • Price: $60 USD / £47 GBP / $88 AUD

GameSpot – 8/10

“But while the multiplayer modes may not hold your attention for long, the strength of the Luigi’s Mansion series has always stemmed from the satisfaction of exploring its carefully constructed settings, and in that regard Luigi’s Mansion 3 certainly succeeds. The game may not radically diverge from the series’ formula, but it offers up another meticulously crafted set of challenges to overcome while smoothing out some of the issues that held Dark Moon back, and the sense of accomplishment you feel when you clear a particularly head-scratching obstacle is just as potent now as the first time Luigi unwillingly strapped a vacuum to his back and stepped into a haunted mansion.” — Kevin Knezevic [Full Review]

Comic Book – 4/5

“Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a magical return to the franchise which newcomers and old-school fans will delight in. Filled with adventure and spooks, the sequel brings back what fans loved about the series’ first game. Luigi has never felt more loved in a game before, even when he’s been put through seven layers of ghostly hell, and fans will enjoy the game even in its most frustrating moments.” — Megan Peters [Full Review]

Eurogamer – No Score

“Part of me still yearns for those dusty carpets of the first Luigi’s Mansion–the near pitch-black corridors, the fumbling around in the dark. This third entry, by contrast, feels more like Luigi has left the haunted house and gained free reign around the neighboring theme park. But what a theme park. It’s left me excited to see where the series goes next.” — Tom Phillips [Full Review]

Game Informer – 8.5/10

“With unique puzzles, diverse floor themes, and exciting boss battles, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a spooky delight for players of all experience levels. Seasoned ghostbusters and rookie paranormal enthusiasts alike would do well to look into Luigi’s latest eerie adventure.” — Brian Shea [Full Review]

IGN – 8.3/10

“Mario, it turns out, isn’t the only plumber in Nintendo’s employ who can carry his own great game. Luigi’s Mansion 3 is so much fun, so charming, and so smartly designed that, moving forward, I really hope we get more than three of these games every 20 years. It’s absolutely the best Ghostbusters game ever made–it just happens to star Mario’s scaredy-cat brother rather than Peter Venkman and Ray Stantz.” — Ryan McCaffrey [Full Review]

Kotaku – No Score

“It’s the sheer variety of experiences in Luigi’s Mansion 3 that keeps it entertaining throughout. While you might at first think you’re in for a repetitive time as you go through the first few floors and find nothing but standard hotel rooms, things get quite unexpected as you continue higher and higher. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it’s a solid take on a series that hasn’t had many entries over the last nearly 20 years. Mostly, it’s just nice to see that Luigi is indeed alive, and not dead.” — Chris Kohler [Full Review]

Polygon – No Score

“But boss fights are a small sliver of the Luigi’s Mansion 3 experience. Each level is a complex onion of ideas to peel back, layer by layer. Next Level Games continues its strong tradition of granting Luigi far more depth than his superstar older brother, even if he is always doomed to keep getting scared for our enjoyment.” — Chelsea Stark [Full Review]

USGamer – 4/5

“‘Ghostly goodness’ is a great summation of Luigi’s Mansion 3. There are more environments to explore, more ghosts to suck up, more stuff to break, more collectibles to dig up, and–most importantly–more Polterpup antics to grin at. True, it’s a little strange to see Luigi check into a hotel instead of a mansion this time, but like a capable handyman, he adapts. Luigi’s Mansion 3 sucks more than anything, and that’s great news.” — Nadia Oxford [Full Review]

How Long Is Luigi’s Mansion 3?

Luigi’s Mansion 3 launches on Nintendo Switch later this week. This installment of the series takes the cowardly plumber to the Last Resort, a towering hotel filled with tons of ghosts and collectibles to find, but how long does it take to work your way through the adventure?

We’ve played through Luigi’s Mansion 3 prior to writing our review, and it took us approximately 18 hours to clear the main story mode. We played through the game very leisurely and tracked down most–but not all–of the special gems hidden on each floor, so your individual playtime will vary depending on how thoroughly you scour the hotel.

In addition to the main story, Luigi’s Mansion 3 features two dedicated multiplayer modes that will extend its longevity. First is ScareScraper, which was originally introduced in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. The mode plays out very similarly to the 3DS game, challenging players with clearing floors of a tower within a time limit. Each floor has a different objective; some will ask you to defeat all the ghosts, while others will task you with finding Toads and bring them back to a safe point.

On top of that, Luigi’s Mansion 3 introduces a new multiplayer mode called ScreamPark. This is a local-only party mode that pits two teams against each other in mini-games. At launch, there are three different mini-games to choose from; you can take a closer look at ScreamPark in Nintendo’s extended gameplay demo. Nintendo will release additional content for ScareScraper and ScreamPark as paid DLC, but the company hasn’t announced what that will be or when it’ll arrive.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 releases, fittingly enough, on October 31. We awarded it an 8/10 in our Luigi’s Mansion 3 review and called it “perhaps the best installment in the series yet.” If you can’t wait to get your hands on the game, you can at least keep yourself amused with this terrifying (but free) printable Gooigi mask until it launches later this week.

Pokemon Go: Last Chance To Catch Darkrai

We’re in the final week of Pokemon Go‘s Halloween 2019 event, which means this is your last chance to catch a variety of special Pokemon. That includes the Mythical Pokemon Darkrai, which is scheduled to leave Raid Battles the day the event ends, on November 1.

Until then, you’ll still be able to encounter Darkrai in five-star Raids. This is the first time the Mythical Pokemon has appeared in Go, and there’s no telling when it’ll return to the game, so you don’t want to miss your chance to add one to your collection. Before you can catch Darkrai, however, you’ll need to team up with other players to battle it.

No Caption Provided

Before Darkrai leaves Raids, the Mythical Pokemon will star in another Legendary Raid Hour. This Wednesday, October 30, nearly every Gym in your area will host Darkrai Raids from 6-7 PM local time, making that your best opportunity to capture one. You can find tips for taking the Mythical Pokemon on in our Darkrai Raid guide.

Following Darkrai’s departure on November 1, the Legendary Regi trio will return to Raids until November 4, and this time around, you’ll have a chance to catch their Shiny forms. Regigigas will debut in EX Raids later in the month but if you don’t want to wait until then, Niantic is hosting a “Colossal Discovery” Special Research event featuring the Legendary on November 2. However, until most other Special Research quests, you need to buy a virtual ticket to participate in this event.

Shortly after the Regi trio leaves Raids again, Pokemon Go’s November Community Day will take place. The event falls on Saturday, November 16–the day after Pokemon Sword and Shield launch on Nintendo Switch–and features Chimchar, the Fire-type starter from Diamond and Pearl.

Andrea K. as Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus. Grand prize winner of CNET’s and TV Guide’s 2018 Halloween costume contest.

The contest has three phases, starting with the photo submission phase that ends Nov. 3 at 11:59 p.m. PT. The second phase consists of the judging, where our judges will select five finalists according to the following criteria: originality (30 percent), complexity (30 percent), caption (20 percent), creativity (10 percent), and relation to the theme (10 percent). The judges will select three finalists per category kicking off the voting period wherein finalists will rally friends and family to compete for the most votes. Contestants whose photos get the most votes between Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. PT and Nov. 4 at 11:59 p.m. PT will be crowned winners!

You can submit a photo per category but you will only receive one prize. Speaking of categories, here is a breakdown on what are the guidelines for each:

Individuals: you have to be 18 or older to participate

Groups: two or more people need to be part of the group photo and the person that submits it needs to be 18 years or older. They will be representing the group in the contest and they will be receiving the prize so it can be divided among the team

Pet: this category is open to pets of all ages and types but they must be wearing a costume. And the pet’s owner must be the one submitting the picture
