As teased, Sony showcased an extended trailer for the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima during The Game Awards. The video gave us another look at the highly anticipated PS4 exclusive and capped off with the game’s new release window: Summer 2020.
The trailer is an extended version of the one that premiered during the State of Play broadcast that aired earlier this week, featuring a mix of gameplay and cinematic footage.
Ghost of Tsushima is developed by Sucker Punch, the studio behind the Infamous and Sly Cooper series. The game places players in the role of one of the only samurai to survive the Mongol invasion of the island of Tsushima in 1274. One of the biggest reveals at The Game Awards was the announcement of Xbox Series X, the name of Microsoft’s next-generation console previously known as Xbox Scarlett. Responses to the reveal have poured in from people across the industry, but what does the creator of Xbox think about it?
Seamus Blackley, who created the Xbox, said on Twitter that he was blown away by the announcement of Xbox Series X. “Well, f**k me. That’s ridiculously glorious,” Blackley said. “It’s always weird for me when a new is announced. It’s a combination of pride, nostalgia, geriatric-ness, and the sense of wonder and excitement that these devices produce. There are WHOLE WORLDS in that box. I love this.”
Blackley hasn’t always been this supportive of new Xbox products. Earlier this year, Blackley said he was so disgusted by the new Xbox deodorant and body wash that he wanted to start drinking heavily.
Xbox Series X releases in Holiday 2020 with Halo Infinite as one of its launch titles. The console’s design makes it look like a PC tower, though Microsoft confirmed it can be oriented either vertically or horizontally. The console will ship with a new controller that features a Share button, which is something that the PlayStation 4 has had since 2013.
Microsoft also announced a new Xbox Series X game today in the form of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II from developer Ninja Theory.

During The Game Awards 2019, a Muppets-themed segment announcing the Games For Impact winner also featured a special appearance by everyone’s favorite goose. The goose from the smash-hit Untitled Goose Game was onstage as a puppet, complete with plenty of honking and on-brand Muppets-style comedy.
The segment included a clip called The Untitled Beaker Game, which is what it sounds like: Muppets in the Goose Game universe. It was a bit of a bizarre segment, however, in that it was mainly to announce the winner of the Games for Impact award, which was Gris.
There have been plenty of real games announced during this year’s Game Awards, too, including a sequel to the acclaimed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 was shown on the Xbox Series X, which was also announced during The Game Awards. Check out our exclusive interview and first look for more details.

During The Game Awards, comic artist-turned-game developer Joe Madureira announced that his game studio Airship Syndicate is working with Riot Games to develop the first single-player campaign for the popular MOBA League of Legends. Titled Ruined King, the single-player story will focus on a set of League champions facing off against monsters and other bosses in turn-based combat.
The storyline for the Ruined King takes place after the Burning Tides event, which introduced a whole suite of changes to LoL. Currently, the game is in development for consoles and PC. According to Madureira at the show, the game will feature a “new take on turn-based combat that’s really cool.”
Earlier this year, Riot Games revealed an ambitious expansion to the League of Legends franchise. In addition to this new single-player game, League of Legends will also have a brand new fighting game with the set of League champions. Known as Project L, this fighting game spin-off is developed by Radiant Entertainment, which was created by the co-founder of the EVO fighting game tournament.

Frightening survival game The Forest is getting a sequel, and it looks altogether weirder and more disturbing than its predecessor. The game was announced with a new trailer at The Game Awards that showed strange creatures awaiting you when you’re trapped in the woods once again.
The trailer, playing from a first-person perspective, started with a group of soldiers on a helicopter, with the player character revealing a wrist tattoo that read, “Fight demons.” That ominous start led to a helicopter crash, stranding the soldiers in the ominous titular forest. You can check out the trailer here.
As in the first game, it seems you’ll encounter some frightening semi-human creatures, including a blind cave dweller. But the other inhabitants of the woods seem to be a little more complex and spooky than in the first game; the trailer also showed a woman-like creature dancing through the woods, with altogether too many legs.
In the end, the trailer left more questions than answers, with no release date or platforms listed when it concluded. But like the first game, the trailer suggested cooperative gameplay and surviving with whatever you can find on-hand.
The Game Awards has promised a ton of new game reveals in addition to the awards. We’ll be keeping track of the big ones, including the winners, so stay tuned.

During The Game Awards 2019, Respawn announced its next seasonal event for Apex Legends. Called Holo-Day Bash, the limited-time event is winter holiday-themed and focuses on the holographic trickster, Mirage.
The Holo-Day Bash adds several new winter and Christmas-themed skins and voice lines. With their new skins, Mirage transforms into a nutcracker, Octane becomes a wide-eyed reindeer, sadistic Caustic adopts the jolly demeanor of Santa Claus, Crypto appropriates the look of Jack Frost, both Pathfinder and Wattson throw on Christmas-themed attire, Bangalore dresses up as a demonic snowman, and Gibraltar is a polarbear. Sadly, Wraith and Lifeline are left out in the cold.
Like previous events, Holo-Day Bash adds a new limited-time mode as well. Called Winter Express, the new mode is a king-of-the-hill take on the battle royale, with World’s Edge moving train the point on the map that teams need to hold in order to score points. Score enough points and you win the round. Win three rounds and your team is crowned champion squad. Similar to Fight or Fright’s Shadowfall, you can respawn multiple times in Winter Express. It seems like Kings Canyon’s dropship makes an appearance too alongside the train, offering another way for you to secure high-tier loot.
The train itself is tied to the Holo-Day Bash’s town takeover. Back in Kings Canyon, Octane and Wraith had town takeovers in the Iron Crown and Voidwalker events, respectively, which transformed portions of the map to reflect the characters’ personalities and backstory. For the Holo-Day Bash, Mirage’s town takeover transforms the train into his train. He’ll be the conductor, and some of his announcements as the train moves around World’s Edge will reveal backstory on the holographic trickster.
