New Borderlands 3 Story DLC Releases Next Month

Gearbox has announced the first DLC campaign for Borderlands 3, Moxxi’s Heist of The Handsome Jackpot, will launch on December 19. The DLC is the final piece of Borderlands 3 post-launch content scheduled for 2019–though Gearbox’s loot shooter will get more campaign add-ons starting in 2020.

To access Moxxi’s Heist of The Handsome Jackpot, you’ll need to have at least reached Sanctuary III, the spaceship hub area unlocked when you complete the opening campaign chapters on Pandora. The DLC is specifically tuned to characters who are level 13, but enemies will scale to your level if your chosen vault hunter is much higher. Moxxi’s Heist of The Handsome Jackpot is included in Borderlands 3’s season pass, though it is available as a standalone purchase as well.

In Moxxi’s Heist of The Handsome Jackpot, you’ll unlock a brand-new area: The Handsome Jackpot. Prior to his death in Borderlands 2, Handsome Jack transformed the space station into a massive casino. Following his death, the station was locked-up tight–trapping the multitude of dangerous loader bots and patrons within it for years. Moxxi wants to crack the station open and pull off a heist to steal all of the money and valuables still aboard–and you’re joining her crew to help her deal with the residents who have all now lost their minds.

The DLC includes new campaign missions, side quests, enemy types, bosses, and legendary loot. You can also find new types of cosmetics onboard The Handsome Jackpot–specifically, new vault hunter heads and skins, weapon trinkets, an ECHO device skin, and new emotes–as well as new Borderlands lore.

Borderlands 3 is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. GameSpot’s Borderlands 3 review reads, “If you’ve never been a fan of the franchise, it’s unlikely Borderlands 3 does enough things differently to change your mind, as the game best excels at continuing what the series has always done: deliver a humorous tall tale of misfits looting and shooting their way to heroism.”

Sea Of Thieves’ The Seabound Soul Update Now Live

Rare’s ongoing live-service game Sea of Thieves has received a new update called The Seabound Soul. The content, which is now live for PC and Xbox One, adds a new tall tale, extra purchasable cosmetics, a brand-new projectile weapon, and more.

The headlining feature of The Seabound Soul is the added tall tale, which sees you joining the aristocratic adventurer Sir Arthur Pendragon on an expedition to explore a feared ship and uncover the mystery of a new threat on the open seas. Like all tall tales, this mission is accessed from the quest book. Completing it nets you a dragon-themed set of sails and Pendragon’s sword.

The Seabound Soul also adds the new fiery cannonball. These new weapons can be shot from the cannons mounted on your ship or tossed directly from your hand at opponents like a grenade.

Elsewhere, The Seabound Soul introduces new emotes, pets and pet outfits, other cosmetics like colorways and skins, and much more to both the Black Market and the Pirate Emporium.

While Rare is continuing to support Sea of Thieves, the studio also has two other projects currently in development: Battletoads and Everwild. While information on the new Battletoads is scarce, Rare shared gameplay for the first time at E3 2019. Everwild was announced during Microsoft’s X019 event, where the company said Rare is making “something truly original and incredibly special.” Both titles are currently slated for PC and Xbox One at some unspecified date.

Black Friday 2019: Early Ads, Start Times, Best Deals So Far, And More

Although we scout out the best deals on games and gaming accessories all year, nothing beats the incredible blowout sales we typically see during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Consoles, games, accessories, and tech all get deep discounts in the days after Thanksgiving, which can make saving tons of money on all your favorite games (and holiday shopping for your loved ones, of course) a hectic endeavor.

Black Friday 2019 is now only a week away–with many deals set to begin even sooner than that–and whether you have a long list of loved ones to buy for or a personal wishlist, it’s best to have a plan when Black Friday and Cyber Monday roll around this year. Luckily, many brick-and-mortar retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, and Target have already begun sharing their Black Friday 2019 ads, giving us a closer look at what deals will be available and when. In fact, we already know most of what’s to come, with some exceptions like Nintendo Switch’s Eshop and Steam.

Read on for everything you need to know to prepare for this year’s Black Friday, including the best deals to be aware of at different retailers across gaming (including PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch hardware and games), tech, and entertainment.

When is Black Friday 2019?

Well, it’s tricky. Black Friday is technically the day after Thanksgiving, of course, so it falls on November 29 this year. But many retailers have begun offering deals already, making the entire month of November fair game for pre-Black Friday discounts. While the schedule varies from store to store, most of the best deals seem to be starting on Wednesday, November 27, or on Thanksgiving Day. Other deals won’t be available until Black Friday itself. Once Black Friday kicks into full gear, the deals will mostly like continue through the weekend and pick up steam again on Cyber Monday.

Because the schedule of Black Friday deals varies so widely from store to store, here’s an overview of when we know deals will be available for Best Buy, Target, Microsoft, Ebay, and other major retailers for Black Friday this year. Please note that start times often differ based on whether the deal is online or in brick-and-mortar stores. As more retailers release their Black Friday ads, we’ll include that information here.

While Amazon has opened a small (but growing) number of brick-and-mortar stores across the US, the bulk of its Black Friday discounts will be available on Amazon.com. Because Amazon is primarily an online store, it’s not waiting until the end of the month to start offering its Black Friday deals. Instead, Amazon launched its Happy HoliDeals sale on November 1 with discounts across gaming, tech, entertainment, and other categories. Then, starting on November 22, more deals will be available on Amazon, including a wide range of smart devices. Basically, Amazon will have deals going live all the time, so check back often.

Microsoft

Microsoft announced its Xbox deals and start times during X019. Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold subscribers get early access to Microsoft’s Black Friday Xbox deals starting November 21. Subscribers can log in and start shopping from any Xbox or Windows 10 device. Pokemon Sword And Shield Sell Big In Japan In First Week

Pokemon Sword and Shield are, perhaps unsurprisingly, off to a strong start in Nintendo’s native Japan. According to Famitsu (via Gematsu), the pair of Pokemon games sold a combined 1.36 million retail copies within their first three days. That makes it the best-selling opening week for a Switch game in Japan, surpassing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s 1.23 million.

That number is already a strong debut, but even stronger when you consider that the figure only includes physical game copies and download codes, not digital sales directly through the Eshop. When Nintendo factors digital sales, as well as those from other territories, it’s bound to grow substantially.

Those strong sales make it likely to appear on a future edition of Nintendo’s all-time sales charts. Pokemon games tend to make appearances on those charts. Currently Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee occupy the #5 spot for all-time Switch software sales, with 11.28 million units. For a look at how dominant Pokemon can be, though, the 3DS chart shows a Pokemon game occupying three of the top five, bested only by Mario Kart 7.

If you’ve picked up Pokemon, be sure to claim your free monsters while you can. Plus check out our guides to Gigantamax Pokemon and Eevee evolutions.

“In collecting, battling, and exploring, Sword and Shield cut out the bloat and focus on what makes these pillars of the Pokemon games so captivating in the first place,” Kallie Plagge wrote in GameSpot’s review. “You’re not held back by overly complicated back-end systems or hoops to jump through; from the outset, you can start wandering the Galar region, seeing its new Pokemon, and trying out its new battle strategies with very little in your way. This leaves you free to enjoy what Pokemon is all about, and that makes for an incredibly strong showing for the series’ proper debut on Switch.”

New Level-5 RPG Snack World Announced For Nintendo Switch, Coming 2020

Level-5, the studio behind games like Yokai Watch and the Professor Layton series, has announced a new RPG for Nintendo Switch. Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold is coming on February 14, 2020 and will cost $50.

The game takes place in the delicious world of Tutti-Frutti, which is threatened by the machinations of the Sultan Vinegar, who intends to resurrect the Deodragon, Smorg Asbord. (Get it?) You play as the treasure hunters Chup and Mayonna in a roguelike adventure. Convenience stores provide supplies and gear upgrades, and you can use “snacks” to summon superpowered allies. You can also team up with other players for up to three other players.

Previously, Level-5 had created the Snack World game for the 3DS in Japan, and it received a Switch port in 2018. Fans have waited for a western release of the oddball RPG, and this is it.

The game is described as a parody of classic RPG tropes–with plenty of food puns, naturally. You can see more at its official site.

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 1 Being Extended Into Next Year

Epic Games kicked off the first season of Fortnite Chapter 2 last month, revamping the popular battle royale shooter with a new map and other big changes. The season was originally slated to end in early December, which would have made it shorter than a typical season, but Epic has now announced it is being extended into next year.

In a post on its official website, Epic explains that Chapter 2, Season 1 will now run until February. The reason for this extension is that Epic plans to roll out a lot more content for the game over the next few months, which includes new events and some kind of “live experience.” As the developer explains:

“Last year we celebrated 14 Days of Fortnite over the holidays. This year we’ve got even more content for you to unwrap, including new game features, free rewards and a live experience that you won’t want to miss. To prepare for all the new holiday-themed updates, we will be extending Chapter 2’s first season into early February.”

This extension means that you have a lot more time to complete any outstanding challenges from this season. If you need help clearing any of the tasks available thus far, you can find maps and guides for all the trickier missions in our complete Fortnite Chapter 2 challenges roundup.

Black Friday 2019 Is Bringing An Excellent PS4 Bundle

No Caption Provided

Update: Sony has confirmed the PS4 holiday bundle is real as part of its official Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2019 deals, and it’ll be available at all major retailers starting next week. The PS4 Slim bundle includes three PS4-exclusive games: God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, and The Last of Us Remastered. Other Black Friday PS4 deals this year include a PS4 Pro for $300, DualShock controllers for $40, and more.

Original story follows.

It’s still early in the Black Friday season, but it’s likely this PS4 Slim bundle will be one of the best savings you’ll find if you’re shopping around for a console. You won’t be able to snag it until the end of the month, but it’s best to know about it now, so you can keep an eye out for it as you do your Black Friday shopping.

On October 24, notable Twitter user and deal-hunter Wario64 reported he’d heard of a PS4 holiday bundle with three PlayStation hits–Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us Remastered, and 2018’s God of War–and a new Black Friday ad from American retailer Belk basically confirms that deal will be available. Belk’s Black Friday ad shows the aforementioned PS4 bundle will be available for $200 USD starting November 24.

Note that Belk’s Black Friday ad shows God of War III Remastered alongside the bundle instead of 2018’s acclaimed sequel. Wario64 purports the “ad made a mistake,” which is highly plausible, but unfortunately, we can’t be sure at this time.

It’s unclear when the deal will end, but we expect it to last through the Black Friday weekend while supplies last–and those last three words are key. During Prime Day, similar PS4 bundles were among the first deals to sell out, so if you have your eyes on this bundle, be ready to go when the deal goes live. As a Sony bundle, it should be available at all the major retailers beyond just Belk.

During Black Friday, Belk will have a variety of other deals, but in terms of gaming, nothing else is particularly noteworthy beyond the PS4 bundle (a Nintendo Switch “doorbuster” is being promoted for $300, for example). You can check out the full ad scan at BF Ads. In the meantime, stay tuned to GameSpot as we highlight all the best Black Friday deals leading up to and during the event.

Crash Bandicoot Fans Are Convinced Sony Is Hinting At A New Game Announcement

Crash Bandicoot may be coming back. Fans of the Sony mascot have spotted a series of clues that may point to a new game in development, most of which stem from Sony’s recent “Time to Play” commercial. The company may be dropping some cheeky hints about the revival.

Eurogamer reports that the first clue passes by quickly, but definitely stands out. During a segment featuring Crash Team Racing characters, a mask can be seen hovering in the background–but this is a new mask, not a familiar one from a past Crash game. Toys for Bob artist Nicholas Kole retweeted a fan who spotted the mask with a seemingly coy little nod.

The Time to Play campaign has also created signage on a bus, captured by a Reddit thread, which shows a new Crash model that doesn’t appear to be from any existing games. Plus a leaker with a history of accurate leaks regarding the Crash series says the game in question is called Crash Bandicoot Worlds, and is slated for release in 2020.

Though the mascot hasn’t had a new major release in quite a while, Sony has been acknowledging its history with nods to the character. His first game appeared as a cameo in Uncharted 4, and the N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing are recent remasters of the classic games. That may all be setting the stage for an announcement of a new game.

Black Friday 2019 Xbox One Deals: Games, Consoles, And More

For Black Friday 2019, Microsoft is cutting prices on all kinds of things on its official store, the company announced during its recent X019 livestream. Discounts for the holiday season include Xbox One S and Xbox One X bundles, wireless controllers, and Xbox One games. If you have Xbox One Game Pass Ultimate or Xbox Live Gold, you can get access to its deal three days before everyone else–subscribers can start shopping for deals on the Microsoft Store website or any Windows 10 device on November 21, while everyone else will have to wait until November 24. Deals last until December 2.

Black Friday Xbox One deals

Whether you’re subscribed or not, Xbox One devices are getting discounts of up to $150 off. All Xbox One X console bundles will go for $350, while all Xbox One S bundles will be $100 off, with several of them now costing $200. This also means you can get the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition for $150–that system is bundled with digital codes for Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and bonus Fortnite content. Additionally, Xbox One controllers will see lowered prices with up to $20 off, while Design Lab controllers get a $10 discount.

Thankfully, if you want to be eligible for the early deals on November 21, you can take advantage of a Black Friday offer that’s available to new Game Pass Ultimate subscribers right now. Microsoft is currently offering new subscribers their first three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for only $1. Ultimate bundles Game Pass for console and PC, in addition to Xbox Live Gold. New subscribers will also get six months of Spotify, as long as they’re not already subscribed to the music-streaming service. On top fo that, new and existing subscribers get a free month of EA Access and three free months of Discord Nitro–like Spotify, you must also be new subscribers to both services.

Of course, a bunch of Xbox One games will be on sale, including first-party games like Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4, and Sea of Thieves: Anniversary Edition. Third-party games, such as FIFA 20, NBA 2K20 Legends Edition, and Borderlands 3 Super Deluxe Edition will also see discounts.

Xbox All Access returns

Microsoft also recently announced that the Xbox All Access program is back for another holiday season. Anyone who doesn’t want to pay the full price for a console upfront can instead opt for a monthly payment plan. The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition goes for $20/month, the Xbox One S for $23/month, and the powerful Xbox One X for $31/month. Each option runs for 24 months and comes with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for the full duration of the plan.

The best part of this round of All Access is that you’ll have the option to upgrade to Project Scarlett, the new Xbox console that is scheduled to arrive next holiday. Xbox One X All Access members will be eligible to upgrade after 12 months, but Xbox One S members will have to wait 18 months. All-Digital Edition members will also have to pay a $20 upgrade fee.

All upgrades must go through the retailer you purchased your original 24-month plan from, and you’ll have to re-up to a new 24-month plan (with new terms and pricing). In the US, Amazon is currently the only retailer offering All Access–in the UK, customers can subscribe starting November 5 at Smyths and GAME.

Game deals

The following Xbox One games will be on sale from November 24 to December 2. Third-party titles are also slated to receive discounts, and we’ll keep you updated as more information is revealed.

The Outer Worlds Update Makes Text Less Teeny-Tiny

The Outer Worlds has been out for nearly a month now, and Obsidian has just issued a patch addressing one of the top pieces of fan feedback. The 1.1.1.0 patch, now available across PC, PS4, and Xbox One, introduces a toggle to increase the font size, so you won’t need your reading glasses for the subtitles.

The toggle, which can be found under the UI tab in the Settings menu, increases the text size for conversation text, cinematics subtitles, bark subtitles, and terminals. The patch also fixes a particularly pervasive crashing bug when the player reaches Tartarus. Other changes include a fix to PS4 sound issues, rebalancing for the Prismatic Hammer, fixes to quests, and other various adjustments. You can find the full patch notes below.

Publisher Take-Two Interactive says the game has exceeded its expectations both critically and commercially, and the game was well-received by critics including in GameSpot’s review, which awarded it a 9/10. Reviewer Edmond Tran said it’s “consistently compelling throughout, and it’s a superb example of how to promote traditional RPG sensibilities in a sharp, modern experience.”

Obsidian, which has now been acquired by Microsoft, recently announced its first new project since the acquisition. It’s called Grounded, and has you shrink down to the size of an ant and try to survive in a perilous suburban back yard.
