E3 2019: Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers Launch Trailer Revealed At Square Enix Press Conference

Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference was full of Final Fantasy news. Final Fantasy VII remake, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered, and of course, their popular MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV. Director and producer Naoki Yoshida took the stage to talk about the game’s third expansion pack, Shadowbringers, which will release on July the 2nd.

Yoshida took his time in the spotlight to thank all the players who had helped the game reach its highest number of active subscribers in history. Speaking to the Shadowbringers expansion pack, he said that “we view (it) as more than a simple expansion pack”, citing the volume of gameplay experiences that could make up a standalone RPG in themselves.

He made a point to mention that there were a lot of new elements to come in the expansion, including two new classes–the Gunbreaker and Dancer–as well as two new races–the rabbit-like Viera and the beastly Hrothgard.

Yoshida made a point of asking players to be excited about Shadowbringers as the latest in the Final Fantasy series, at least until March 3rd, 2020, when Final Fantasy VII Remake is slated to release. A launch trailer for the game was then shown, which you can watch above.

E3 2019: New Dragon Quest 2 Trailer Released During Square Enix Press Conference

During the company’s E3 2019 press conference, Square Enix released a new trailer for Dragon Quest Builders 2. The Minecraft-like game sees you explore the setting of Dragon Quest, building your way to a better world.

The trailer details many of the gameplay mechanics for the upcoming game. Your goal is to discover treasure and unravel the mystery of the fantasy land you find yourself in. There’s also the hate-filled Children of Hargon to defeat and captured builders in need of saving.

As your journey continues, you’ll unlock new skills and discover methods for building new types of structures. The world is vast, and it hides many secrets, crafting recipes, and riddles to solve. And when the going gets tough, you’ll have to fight.

Of course, it’s not all action and exploration. You need to make a home for the builders you save so cultivating gardens and farming food is essential. If you’re having trouble, you don’t have to go it alone. Up to four people can play Dragon Quest Builders 2 via online co-op play.

E3 2019: Final Fantasy 7 Combat System Detailed At Square Enix Press Conference

Square Enix opened its E3 2019 press conference in style with a brand-new trailer for the Final Fantasy VII remake, showing classic scenes from the original game’s opening.

Following the trailer, Square Enix also talked about gameplay mechanics, showing off some basic battles against Shinra soldiers before diving into an extended gameplay clip of a boss battle.

Active Time Battle Wait (ATB Wait) makes a return in the remake. As in the original, your ATB meter fills over time, but will also speed up as you land successful basic attacks on enemies. Once your meter is full, you can then effectively stop time and enter tactical mode to issue advanced commands, whether it’s casting spells, using items, or activating limit break super moves–no sign of summons just yet.

We also got to see a new layer of strategy that plays into the game’s action-RPG side, with Cloud and Barrett taking cover when the boss readied an attack.

It’s clear that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is being designed as a hybrid between tradition and innovation, appearing to offer something new for fans and reasons for people who don’t like turn-based RPGs to give it a look. Square Enix noted the game will span two Blu-ray discs and revealed new special editions. Pre-orders are now available.

This big reveal comes the day after Square Enix put a release date on the highly-anticipated remake, which we can now expect to release on March 3, 2020.
