Hot On The Heels Of Apple Arcade, Google Play Pass Revealed With 350 Games And Apps
Google has officially unwrapped its “Google Play Pass,” the Android answer to the recently launched Apple Arcade. The Play Pass grants you access to 350 apps and games, without ads or in-app purchases, for a single subscription rate.
It’s launching this week in the United States. You can sample a 10-day free trial now. After that, subscriptions will regularly be $5 per month, but the company is offering a promotional rate of $2 per month for the first 12 months, after which it will revert to the $5 rate.
A promotional trailer for the service shows the games Monument Valley 2, Stardew Valley, Old Man’s Journey, and Limbo, among others. But Google Play Pass differentiates itself from Apple Arcade by offering a selection of non-game apps as well, like Photo Studio Pro, ISS HD Live, and AccuWeather.
New games and apps will be added monthly. The Play Store has also added a dedicated Play Pass tab, and any apps or games marked with a Play Pass “ticket” while you browse are included. You can also share your subscription with up to five other family members.
We first heard of the Play Pass in August, and the $5 price point was known then. This official announcement offers a lower introductory rate, a larger selection of apps than we’d previously known, and the imminent launch.
